Skoda Favorit £700

I was initially a bit scared to use this given its low mileage, fearing that it should be squirrelled away. A couple of things have changed my mind however:

  • The odo doesn't work, but if you wind the little trip dial it advances by a mile for every couple of turns. These leads me to believe the mileage is a little higher that stated. Maybe 12,000 or so? Who knows, maybe even 15,000..
  • It's just proving too nice to bomb around in, kind of like a modern day 2cv or something. It does absolutely nothing other than be a comfy, airy and practical car that's surprisingly fun to drive.

I think fettling might amount to removing the boot badges, fitting a nice stereo and bombing around in it for a couple of years. Soz everyone.

Waxoyl the living fuck out of it and use it. They are really cheap to run / easy to work on and rust is the real killer of them.

do you find the steering heavy at lower speeds?

Thats what theyre made for man. Sounds like a great utilitarian plan.

It ain't too bad really. The steering wheel is a really nice size and shape for a bit of a heave. Low speed manoeuvring is obviously a bit more physical than something with PAS but once above walking pace you forget all about it. I reckon it all adds to its general pleasant utilitarian* communist vibe

utilitarian

*That's the word, thanks. It's a kinder way of phrasing what Barrett describes as its "appliance" quality.

I'm annoyed that model maker Abrex didn'r ship any of the Favorit estate models to the UK, as it was basically a left hand drive version of this car. They are great little things, the E spec hatches will just sniff under the ton, estates about 90 ish flat out, and the ease they convert to little vans is unreal. I would send daverapid a private message if you ever need advice. Jealous isn't the word. Well bought

Driving the one my mate had, I was surprised at how light the non-assisted steering was, even at lower speeds.

If you do the the driving test compliant old lady shuffle steer, it's easier than heaving the wheel crossing over on non-PAS cars. Or Bedford TKs. Or AEC Militants.

I found it heavier, say, than my old RWD Mk2 escort. I think just because it is a 90s 80s car, I expected it to be a bit easier.

My fav was fairly heavy at low speeds, I think that in part was due to it being stanced on Skoda Motorsports springs & shocks, it handled way better than my newer Felicia, it was very chuckable on country roads, I think they are a hugely under rated car, and you can see why Lada got a kicking, the Samara feels prehistoric compared to the Favorit

FWD will invariably be heavier than RWD, Mr Egg. Non PAS Felicias are quite light as well. Then again I'm quite a burly chap with big Popeye arms.

These little Favorits are a much underrated car of the era, a bit cheap & cheerful in terms of materials used in the interior, but would rather one of these over an Escort or Astra. Mr Twoshoes has scored well with this motor.

Mum got a Flairline LXiE brand new in 1994, that car didn't set a foot wrong in 4 years, was even still on it's original exhaust when it was traded in for a brand new Felicia

Whereas I'm a fat chap with pencil arms :-)!

It is funny that the entire lower dashboard moulding on the Felicia is identical to the Favorit. And one thing Favs & Felicias have in winter, blast furnace heaters. I miss mine, and the rear spoiler was great for keeping the rear window clear in the rain on motorways. Mine passed to Michael1703 formerly of this parish, and has been spotted in Norfolk, I'd love to own it again, but sadly I couldn't drive it, due to my worsening disabilities. When I took it up north back in 2015, it shook off a rear end impact from a Citroen C3, that destroyed that car's bumper, and I gained a light scuff on my bumper. It was a fabulous car, and I think is a modern classic, shame the prototype saloon was canned, that was based on the estate platform, and had one huge boot

Have we had a picture of the powerhaus?

Can anyone comfirm if this starter motor sounds a little sticky or do TADTS? Sounds like the pinion remains engaged for a bit too long.

Does sound like it isn't disengaging properly, I had to fit a new starter on mine, wasn't that expensive either tbh

This has generally been being a car all over the place. It isn’t much more than a car really, and depending on how you like your cars it’s possibly one of the most car like cars there is.

It gets a lot of love on the roads, mostly from people in more grown up Skodas and occasionally from people who should know better in lowered VW’s.

Cars eh?

There is one of these lives with folks pretty much directly opposite the exit of Tesco, Coast Rd. (for those who live/pass/shop in my neck of the woods ;) )

If its the house Im thinking of, theyve had a Volvo 240 and a Polo Breadvan over the past ten years too. Family of unpeckable taste.

Great to know this diamond is out pulling up the roads. Its been well overdue a stretch of its legs and the opportunity to sniff the other cars arses.

I did the sums a calculate. Brimmed this in Scotland yesterday and blasted to London on one tank. Brimmed it again this morning and calculated 49.5 EMPEEGEES.

Wasn’t expecting that...

I know and I’d keep it forever if I wasn’t about to win that prelude roffle.
