Sad times just over a week ago when the pug 306 got hit by a fiesta coming out of the breakers yard in Crawley!

HX02 VFZ fiesta had failed 2 mot attempts!!. The 13th was day of crash.

Now the insurance needs lots of extra info as the FiL was driving. 2ac3d080798e4eeb14740b5f72e3b7df.jpg98d91a2a5c51de716f000dcca08a879e.jpg

Father In law turned up today...... In passing he mentioned that his boost gauge only shows vacuum not boost since he replaced some vacuum hoses, I sighed and said I would have a look.

Well he has been busy under the bonnet with the blue paint and decided the hoses should be blue as well. Unfortunately he connected the dump valve to the brake vacuum pump (cam shaft driven), by cutting the hard black plastic hose to brake booster and rerouting so only inlet manifold connection still attached.

He also attached boost gauge to the switching side of a vacuum sensor on manifold, I asked him where original hose went before replacing it and he points at the turbo. The Internet told him to replumb hose between turbo and the intake after MAF sensor, so I'm not going to argue with them on that and just replumbed the hoses using my own more sensible guesses to get everything working.

Sorry about lack of pictures but he was suspicious of why I needed that first under bonnet picture while I'm trying not to laugh at this shit.

Edited because Google predictive....

How on earth do you keep a straight face when presented with the latest 'development'? I literally cannot imagine what he's going to do next; brilliant thread.

He also left the car at a car wash place paid them £25 to valet the car and then complained when he picked it up as they had pressure washed off some of the custom blue paint he had carefully applied to the exterior door trim and wing mirrors.

I enjoyed imagining them laughing their heads off as they jet washed the wing mirrors and blue paint flew everywhere.

He could have a ‘because vectra’ sticker.

The sad thing he bought the car as a finished project and now is ruining it. I will try to get pics of the vauxhall invoices from January this year for the engine swap. and also pics of the interior he is currently ruining with his Ice install.

Thread continues to deliver.

Had the vac gauge mod robbed his brakes of assistance or did he manage to keep them connected?

Keep us posted on the latest thing painted blue with humbrol and/or nail varnish.

He managed to connect the two pieces of cut brake vacuum pipe by shoving in a broken piece of that shiny metal extendable aerial you get on portable radios etc, it was hissing and causing the car to idle higher and put on the engine light.

What compulsion drives people to deface perfectly reasonable cars?

I have nothing against an added pinstripe,

Driving/fog lamps,different wheels,lowering(within reason),ice install ECT.

But this? No!

Whilst I'm very much appreciating the entertainment value, if this was my FIL I would have told him to go away and sort out his own mess several posts/cars ago.

If it were my FIL, I'd be divorcing his daughter. Who needs chord speed when you can have a wind speed steering wheel. I would shart every time I saw that steering wheel, wind speed for sure

When it’s someone else I can really enjoy it. Please tell him to continue

What has he done to the interior? He's done such a good job that it all looks factory.... oh no, wait, I see it now. He's added a 12v USB adapter. Nice.

WTAF, he's smearing wob onto the fabric-covered A pillar trims? Jesus wept.

Is your FiL divorced/single by any chance?

He managed to make a child, I hope the apple has fallen far far away from the tree. Like airmailed from the tree.

Fair play to you for your patience, there's no way I would get involved in this stuff. It looks like no matter what you do, theres going to be a new load of scotchlocks and twin & earth wiring to sort out the following weekend anyway
