I heartily approve of your purchase! Do like those especially when they're lowered. Air ride is a good idea and it's had some very sensible mods. A late friend had a very nice stock '49 fastback, it was maroon as I recall. Have fun with the old gal.

That is fit.

Do you look like Stallone in Cobra?

Now that’s an automobile! Stunning. I will own a 50’s American car one day, but for now my 19 year old son has just imported a ‘68 Mercury Cougar from North Carolina and we will be collecting it from the Port of Southampton during the next week..

Err.... neither.....saw it advertised...couldn’t resist...it was either this or a Hudson Hornet......

Im busy all day, then I find out this has happened.

Awesome.

Possibly knarly.

Definitely rad.

Without doubt, pant wettingly gorgeous.

Utterly gorgeous, Those dials, coupé styling, the rear lights.......dribble.

Noticed it was a 12 volt battery. I thought some US metal from the same era still have 6 volts to work the candles.

How are the brakes? Wipers work of a vacuum?

And, that is the correct amount of chrome. An actual fuckton.

I also appear to not be able to spell mellifluous!

Posted

Oh yes!

What are you driving these days?

Answer: A Rocket 88

It dosen't get much better than that. :-D

Unassisted drumes..which are pretty good, surprisingly.......electric wipers, 12 volt, [converted] steering has obligatory 2 inches of play [no p.a.s] Surprisingly quick [when new 0-60 in 12 secs] which was bloody rapid for 1950! Most old Yanks of this era had either flathead v8s, or sixes [some of those flathead] Fuel consumption isn't bad....20 on a run........

That's the nicest shaped car I've set eyes on this year.

Well done. Enjoy!

Is there a thread somewher in the interwbs on this?  Interested.  My favourite 60s US Muscle.

First job...sort out steering and suspension..............steering is comically vague.............you can get all the bits for a front end rebuild.........

An old 88... that's a piano isn't it :)

Comically vague steering was standard on old American cars.

Excellent purchase, how was the road trip? (I may have missed that bit)

Love the hood ornaments on these.  Tried to emulate with a Vauxhall EIP Velox Speedbird on the bonnet of the FB VX4/90 but didn't have quite the same effect.  At all

Devon you say?  That gets about, must be reliable :)

In 2011 at Enfield, in 2014 at Pendine.  But who stole the Caddy covers, I wonder.

First year of the one-piece windshield, first production OHV V8 (a third powerful again over the Ford flathead), not only that it outsold the six so well they dropped the six from the range...

2 inches of play is the norm, I'm told.  Did you not see those old films?   8)
