I think you're probably right on both counts.  I had a friend who owned a Capri in about 1997 and she was a university student, so it can't have cost much.

Mind you, at the height of the recent panic buying you could quite possibly have exchanged two bog rolls for a Capri!

At that time they really were the pits as far as cars were concerned! Hated, unfashionable and unwanted old bangers. I bought my mk2 in 2001, taxed and tested for £100! A guy I worked with had a yard full of Capri’s, Cortina’s and Granada’s, all picked up for pennies or free, all were bound for the banger track.

As a child in the 90s, the fact that I declared that I wanted to drive a Ford Capri and an Austin Maestro clearly marked me out as a bit naff.

Reading Capri forum posts from 20 years ago is something of a revelation... the threshold for a car being scrapped was ridiculously low compared to now!

looks like its on false plates (F-FWP does not look to be a reg series issued)

which is a bit alarming if its parked up on the street! there wasn't any filming work or such being done was there?
