Bastards took the gates off the hinges ... 8ft high and bloody heavy . Countax mower gone .Car's ok .

Cant seem to get into the forum on Chrome , let alone post  . I thought I must have been banned ?  Anyone else having trouble . I'm typin this on old   Windows bt  I.E . seems to work , just slower than Gigglepin in a Autotest :-(

So they took big heavy gates off and took a mower not a car worth* loads? Why bother!

Are you going to move the car now?

Please keep the exhaust stock...the boomy growl from it is so rarely heard these days, as most I've seen in the last few years have been XR2-ed and have sports systems on.

Only car I can bring to mind that has a similar sound are the very early Saab 900s with the single silencer that's hung left-to-right in front of the rear axle.

No fiesta progress other than bleeding the brakes .. :-(   Workshop is now impregnable  :-D  Should i be incorrect , there's trip wire shotgun blank alarms ... (  the gamekeeper  suggested a fish paste bottle paced over the cartridge, purely  to keep moisture out of the cordite of course     )

Today ..It runs.. :-D   it drives ... :-D  it's a bit of a mess mind. :-(  I turned it around and parked it facing the other way , so i can start on the bodywork  . Not seen daylight for 5 years ! Started up ok on 2012 petrol ,bit smokey though ,I'm  hoping it hasn't gone bad as there's half a tankful still in it  8)

I’ve got a set of NOS monroe shocks for a Mk3 any interest to you?

That's a bloody lovely little car, will look perfect with a bit of tlc.

Never driven a Mk I Fiesta. Metros and Novas aplenty, but never an early Fiesta. Classic Mini is the other obvious one I've missed.

Wow rear seat belts and head rests. Some us can dream of such luxuries.

Posted

L spec !  Door pockets too ! and Econolights !  AS  does your fiesta have a pile of torque steer under acceleration and pull other way when you back off?

I put the seat belts in , as we had a child

Posted

Door pockets!!!

No torque stear from mine or any Fiesta I've ever drive and that's been a lot!

I couldn't even get the XR to do it when it was working. Does this mean you've a potential drive shaft problem?

Posted

I have no idea , but since i'm a fantastic driver i can counter it .

Here's its point of sale invoice , with options

Symptoms of the tie bar bushes being shot?

Passenger door mirror!! Will this never end!!

Ok really what's terotex and an econolight?

An inflation calculator says it would be equivalent to £12756 now.

Oh and we'll done on being a great driver I'd just crash.

Terotex is    "ziebart from new "   :-D   Econo light is on the speedo, amber is good economical driving , and because i'm an excellent driver ,,I've never  seen it  actually go red   ( Much  ) Works on vacuum . You get high xr type ratio diff too if you specd  econolight .

I didn't get any torque steer from my Mk1 Fiesta either

That’s pretty well speced for an L.

My old 1300 Ghia mk2 didn’t ever torque steer either, that was a B reg so pretty early and had the CVH engine. That had an econolight type thing. I remember that as it seemed fairly advanced for the age of the car.

No torque steering but it did do a very wide range of other bizarre things.

Posted

Why have I never heard of this econolight thing??

Anyway Zeibart from new for me too. Must be the only thing that's kept it alive (well that and the new front end) all these years

Econolight gubbins    ( Rare R.S option worth £££ :-D )

Wiki 'd  " Torque steer"  , and it mentions Mk1 Fiesta ,funnily enough , not only tie bar bushes , but engine mounts too . Tie bars seemed ok ,so  I grabbed hold of the engine and it did  seem pretty floppy on its mounts  .

Further investigation revealed a detatched rubber engine mount !!  Both 17mm mounting  bolts were those hidden ones,   that undo 1/6th of a turn at a time . :-( Bloody Fords...

Cue,  bodge special spanner grinding  time..  and then had to cut off the 16mm end as it was too long and hit the bulkhead !

Still  the bracket  wouldn't come off ,and then i find another hidden  17mm  bolt holding it .

Dogleg open ended  spanner making this time !

Got it off eventually

Here's the knackered mount ,  I assume it should be bonded top and bottom ?  New one ordered anyway .

Check the bottom mounts too!!

I've only ever seen econolight on a late mk1 special edition, never a mk2 although the Haynes manual does refer to it in the wiring diagrams. I guess it would occupy the same spot as the glowplug lamp on a diesel, and functioned like some sort of ultra basic rev counter.

Given my taste for big comfy barges, I have a surprising soft spot for the ol' mk1 Fiesta.  I passed my test in one in 1978 and somehow have managed to never own one since.  All the best with it!
