The legendary IOW Audi 100 taxi

I will buy it. I’m satisfied enough that we went through every potential and possible cause of failure with the last Audi 80 ALF892 and I saved last year.

In the case of the (admittedly) newer one last year, it was a distributor.

Being optimistic, there aren’t a whole lot of things it can be.

What I don’t have is a Copart account. If anyone can help with that, we’ll be off and running.

You are 007 and I claim my £5 please.

If you do get the car 7 and 21 please.

We visit the Isle of Wight regularly. I have often seen this car, but only ever in the distance or while driving, so I couldn't get a picture. It would be a real shame if it was to end up scrapped after so many years of service. Surely it deserves a retirement!

Message me and I’ll try and win it for you....

I have it on my watchlist for you already...

As I say though....they only make the effort to check the higher value cars i.e £10k+

Something like this they would not check. If you want anything checking in Newbury also I have eyes there as well as Westbury too and possibly Wolverhampton....

That’ll probably be as rotten as a pear unfortunately...

Local guy I knew....put an old Land Rover in...it was like Swiss Cheese absolutely rotten. He would have had timewaster after timewaster had he put it on Ebay... anyway, it ended up making bloody strong money and going out to Malta! Only killer when you sell is the fee for the seller (£75/80 inc)

Newbury I can send someone down in my truck, bring back to mine and potentially hold for you for couple of days so you do not accrue their stupid storage costs

Shout if you find anything and I’ll get more (better) pictures!

This looks lush. Why on earth would this be on coparts?

Also I did not know there was a site in Newbury either.

How does coparts work? It says there is an auction date, yet you can bid on it at the moment. What happens if you put a bid on it online. Can you still win it or does it go to auction still after, with that as a starting bid?

Posted

I shall explain...

7 days prior to the live auction you have prelimiary bidding so bids are taken then come 12pm on the day of the auction - Newbury is a thursday... the live auction then starts at that price. The live auctions start at 12pm and normally last 2ish hours. They have several virtual lanes so be sure to check out the interested lot at 11am on the day of the auction to suss which lane. It will then have an item number and the cars will go through as a list.

The auction itself starts at that price, then had a 5 second timer whereby other members are free to enter a higher bid. When the 5 second timer counts down and no more bids are entered, the highest bidder gets the car “sellin all the way” will come up on the screen (yanks)

To restore/repair a car in Eastern Europe is approximately 1/5th of the labour costs of that here in the UK....does that help explain everything now...???

This is why autoshite is excellent. A half million mile 33 year old audi ex-taxi that allegedly doesn't run comes up for sale, and within a few hours of posting it on here a rescue plan is being formed. Superb

This place IS as good as it used to be,.

This is good. If you are stuck for contacts when it comes to work on cars etc shout me. I had a farm down there

I know I’ve posted a lot in this thread but merely trying to explain all..

This Audi...doesn’t look like it has had any damage and this is my take on why it is in there....

Copart own ‘cartakeback’ (another one of these webuyanycar jobs) and as such buy vehicles from people that then go into their auctions. These vehicles are also washed as this Audi looks to have been. The fact that it is a cat d could be that it was subject to an insurance claim earlier in its life.

There was once an Estoril Blue e36 BMW M3 with a private plate. Said to one of the lads what the crack was because no damage etc. My heart literally stopped when I found out that Copart had paid the guy £900 for it and the guy who owned it couldn’t get it through an MOT (emissons too high)....I watched it go through online...made £5900....I cried and also felt sick...

The other possibility is that it has gone to a garage or to someone with a copart account thinking the Polish will go mad for it...I’m not so sure...

I’ll try and refrain from filling this thread now! SORRY!

Indeed. Its also interesting how open to trade is the UK is. I mean on leboncoin (not a direct comparison I know) they won't even let people with a UK IP address see phone numbers! We take it as the norm in the UK.

No no, please don't stop! This sort of information is golden.

Let's hope this ends up in the beige, and it's not something terminal like cambelt failure

I'm told by my Polish colleague that it's a bit more than that now, as Poland is and has been catching up with Western Europe for some time....

Should bring it up here to the Audi dealership in Brentford/Chiswick flyover....more like a museum than a showroom.....they’d be interested in it I’m sure for the sheer amount of non motorway miles achieved! They have many many of the older Audis in pristine condition for people to go in and reminisce...
