Does anyone want a Xedos?

Recommended Posts

One of my Facebook contacts asked me at the weekend if I wanted a Xedos. It's an MOT failure on emissions.. he had a go at doing the cam belt and I suspect it's fudged the timing a bit.

I've no want or desire, but it's scrap value and in Peterborough.

I'll get pics for any interested parties or it goes to frag

Is this the one that Alycone had?

Doubt it. Mine ended up in Derby then was sold on elsewhere.

One of our neighbors had one of these when we moved here. Was always an utter shed, but he kept new tyres and such on it, I always thought it was a lovely looking thing. Then one morning at 2am I had to help him take the battery off as it kept sounding its alarm and it went shortly after...

Shame they are so bad on fuel, their lovely looking cars

They're not that bad on fuel if your expectations are realistic.

It's a stressed V6 that'll do 7200 rpm if you push it. I was getting 32-33 mpg tank to tank provided I stayed out of towns.

So it’s safe to say it’s a Xedos 6 then?

I had a Xedos 6, but this one probably isn't my old one.

Or it could be my old one.

But no-one knows as of yet.

It's all a bit of a mystery.

It is interesting though.

They kind of remind me of a Daewoo. Kind of.

Honestly, some guy on my facebook asked if I wanted it on a post about a bicycle I have for sale, it's not someone I regularly talk to, and I've never seen the car before.

He tells me it's battered and bruised, with good tyres and a new exhaust, it's probably worth saving, but I don't expect a minter.

ABS sensor intermittent

Sunroof leaks.

It's a 2.0, that's all I know at the moment, sorry!

Xedos 6 ftw.

Yes, you *could* get 2 litre V6 Xedos 9s, but they were even harder to shift than the 2.3 Miller Cycle and 2.5 V6 cars. I'll be stunned if it's a povvo Xedos 9 (and will probably get my wallet out).

So were people really into that one I had, then? The thread went pretty dead after I posted it up.

There was a thread? I must have totally missed that

I went off looking, but it doesn't look like it exists anymore

Absolutely, I really liked it. One of the most interesting cars of the 90s in my opinion (mainly a combination of how modern it looked and its obscurity).

I saw this land on your newsfeed Dave and hoped it would make its way here.

If anyone in the world is going to want an MOT failure Xedos, it has to be this place.

Cue sixteen pages of arguing how to say it.

Maybe the inability of both salespeople and customers to say Xedos (it's "ker-say-dos", says Mazda) contributed to its disappointing sales.

[autocade.net]
Sold as part of Eunos range in Japan, but called Mazda Xedos 6 in most export markets. Notable for the very small V6 engines available, and for looking like a modern interpretation of a Jaguar, a brand which Mazda’s design chief, Takeshi Arakawa, liked. Sold to 1995 in Japan, but continued to 1999 for export.

IMHO, the world needs more kersaydos threads.

I remember the dude on the Mazda stand at the Ulster Motorshow telling me that it was pronounced 'Criss-e-dos' - because the X was like the X in Xmas.

If you have to explain the name to prospective punters, then it ain't a good 'un...

I can now understand why Mazda took the hump and now just call their models Three, Six, etc...

My cousin ran a Xedos 9 for a while whilst doctoring in Dublin. He wasn't exactly impressed by its fuel economy*
