That's their standard price. We didn't get any Uniroyal stuff in, just has that on the shelf.

My dad got me 5L of 5w30 for £4.99 out of Asda a few weeks back by chance. Worth keeping an eye out.

Thanks. Looks acceptable oil to use for the TT tops ups. No point wasting good money on expensive oil if it's going to burn it off anyway.

But for an oil swap which I need to do on the Focus it’s hardly exorbitant to say it’s the real deal the car was designed to run on.

But then if its the correct spec (thus real deal) for the car to run on, then it is a good deal right? That oil is perfect for a lot of German stuff.

The £3 difference but you’ve got to fetch it. I think the Viscol stuff is for the 1.9 diesel in the Galaxy as well which I think was the VW PD.

Struggling to see the point of this tbh, at least for VAG stuff at any rate. Genuine VW Quantum Platinum 5w40 pd oil is £12 for 5 litres at TPS, all of mine get that including the Volvo.

To my mind I’d spend £3 going to the home bargains to get it. For effectively same price I could just order the proper stuff like you say. I’m sure if the specs match the viscol stuff will be perfectly adequate but where it’s pound for pound same price as the manufacturers I can’t see the point.

Granted though as you say if you need some oil right now then yes it’s not a bad deal.

What’s TPS?

TPS in Bristol won't deal with me being a mere pleb off the street. They will only deal with "trade".

Some of them are a bit funny like that. I help out a mate with a few favours here and there (Taking the odd car for test, lifting for heavy jobs like clutches etc) so get to use a trade account in return as well as the occasional use of a pit when not busy.

That being said, lots of them can and will sell to Joe public.

Thought I'd revive this thread with a new possible cheap oil deal. This one's just been posted on hotukdeals:

https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/5w-30-fully-synthetic-oil-5l-asda-950-instore-3187163

£9.50 for 5L 5w30 fully synth from that well known petrochemical company, ASDA. Not sure if it's a UK wide deal or just in specific stores - some of the hotukdeals "finds" can be a bit unicorn-like.

At that price though, worth looking out for if you're in ASDA?

Thanks for that, it's really useful. 504/507 is the correct spec for most modern VAG TDi with a DPF and most TFSI/FSI petrols. I'll have a hunt at my local branch to see if they have any in.
