So, day 2. Not a lot happened today, but I'll happily fill you in.

The floorpan needed a good hoovering/brushing to get rid of all the debris.

I gave the areas of corrosion a good wirebrushing and painted up any bare metal.

Next up, the headlining. Only place I could work on it properly was the bonnet.

The headlining was pale cloth, and would have shown any water marks from scrubbing of cleaning.

As it turns out, an incredibly fucking stupid idea which took ages to hoover up properly. Smells good though. It was given a quick spritz with Febreze and allowed to air dry.

Finally for the day, I dragged the carpet out into the sunshine. Plenty of hair and crushed up leaves to contend with.

I didn't get as far with this as I'd like due to the sheer amount of fur ingrained into the carpet weave, and MrsH was feeling a bit under the weather so I decided to call it a day early. The difference is quite substantial though.

So, that's it for today. Will keep chipping away at it. Plan is to hoover as much debris out of the carpets, then pressure wash/detergent, rinse, and drip dry before getting re-installed.

My Missus' 2001 version of this is on it's last few weeks before the crusher I'm afraid, mainly due to tin worm on the front subframe, so if you fancy parting with this then gissa shout we may well be in the market for this one if you get pissed off with scrubbing it   (she hasn't touched hers in about three years, just drives the bugger, leaves it to me to throw a bucket of soapy water on it when I get too embarrassed!)

I don't know if he'll even get a chance to go in it at the moment - the insurance is too much for us, especially as we're not moving on either the Rover or Herman, so it's 0 NCB as well.

He is a fat hairy bastard and I never once cleaned the inside of that poor car. I used to wipe down the inside of the dollop and the Mazda after every trip with them, the KIA, never. Never mind, you are doing a super dooper job and it will be like new when you have finished.... just stop posting about it, you make me look like a complete slob/arsehole

 

The fag smell is probably from me smoking in it daily for a few years but I NEVER used the ashtray so no idea how long those fag ends have been in there!

Next up, the only soft furnishing I didn't want to remove from the car - the seatbelts. Nobody gives them a second thought, but they're right next to the window, so the smoke always runs past them. A quick sniff confirmed it.

 

Easiest way to keep the seatbelt out so they can dry properly? Sandwich bag clips.

Finally, I hosed the motor down to get rid of the excess cleaning fluid. Will pick it up another day.

Dogs' bollocks - used about 125ml and made up a litre with it. All that cleaning was achieved with 600ml of that litre I made.

MrsHarris has just informed me that I've been very stupid. Must have happened when I was wiping down the dashboard.

 

The battery is so low the remote locking doesn't work, and I can't jump it because I'll trigger an airbag light that I may or may not be able to reset. So, I have to wait until it's all back together, then jump it.

What does it do to vacuum cleaners?

Mr Harris may be ok as long as he doesn't use henry bagless, but dysons, and paper bad the dust goes right through/is too light for the cyclone and gets into the motor, where it coats everything in a crust, and because it's a bit abrasive works into the bearings and gets under the carbon brushes.

 

Saying that, if I ever get hold of a Hoover Ranger as per the original advert, I'm putting a sebo bag in and doing a demo with a tub!

Top tip with the sandwich bag clips!  I've always relied on clothes pegs, but they have a habit of not being strong enough to hold the belt for long.

It was another glorious day in sunny Kernow, so naturally, scrubbing the interior of a Korean saloon wasn't high on my priority list.

 

So we spent the afternoon at a farm. The boy got a chance to sit on a tractor.

 

 

In between the farm, and taking the dog to the beach, I decided to scrub the lower bench, as it was easily the filthiest part of the interior, obviously.

 

 

It was also a wee bit hairy. Hoovered.

 

 

Halfway through. Auto Finesse Verso APC applied and scrubbed in with a nail brush, before wiped off with a rag.

 

 

After the first initial scrub, the rag was looking a bit grubby

 

 

Another spray and wipe with a clean rag to get rid of any residual mud.

 

Came up pretty well, despite a couple of years in the "leather", but otherwise pretty presentable.

Popped in the car to aid drying out. With the current weather, it's like a greenhouse. Inside the car smells a lot better now.

 

 

Will progress further tomorrow. Aiming to put it back together before Bank Holiday Money.

Holy crap I didn't realize Monday was a bank holiday! Nice progress on the cleaning, too!

I've been busy with other stuff recently, but I sat down and knocked up a list of unfinished projects around the house today and the Kia was at #3, so I decided to finish off the interior cleaning.

 

I only took one picture today.

 

 

The seats got the same treatment as the rear, hoovered and scrubbed with APC, the floor mats, boot carpet, parcel shelf and interior carpet got hoovered, pressure washed, the scrubbed with a mixture of water and a fairy laundry detergent liquitab, before getting pressure washed again and hung up to dry.

 

As much as I tried, there was just too much hair in the back to completely remove all traces, but it's a whole lot better.

 

Now it's dry (although the boot carpet and interior carpet will remain hanging up for another day and a half to ensure fully dry, I aim to rebuild it on Wednesday. I plan to tax and insure it to use it for a week to free everything up - it hasn't moved in months.

 

Once it's freed up and I've used some of the fuel in the tank, I'll drop it off to TwoSmoke to get to the bottom of the running issues. Then, it's a fresh set of tyres, clean the cloudy headlights and punt it through an MOT.

 

After that, I think I'll have to move it on, sadly it's just too expensive to insure for the pair of us. Need to tot up what I've spent so far to make sure I'm not out of pocket though!

For the hair issue, apparently using a pumice stone on the carpet gets it out. Could be worth a try.
