It’s shagged out from various building materials etc being carried about.

You mean using it as a dogging blanket?

I fear that I've probably already owned my last Mk4 Mondeo.

Good ones are vastly overpriced for what they are and the cheap ones are usually fucked. Unless I could find another 2.0 petrol I wouldn’t have another now. Focus Mk2/3 for me next time I think.

Oil change time again, and a general check over, starting to show her age here and there, but will hopefully go on for another wee while yet.🤞

Mines conked out this morning, ‘Engine Malfunction’ and ESP light and limp cock mode. Only does it cold, plugging it in shows issue with boost, I suspect it’s either a duff intercooler hose - it still has the original plastic one from the intercooler to the dozer valve. Or possibly it’s the variable vanes coked up and its causing the actuator to stick first thing in a morning. I’ll change the hoses as I have some anyway and investigate if the vacuum solenoid is working and if the plunger on the actuator is seizing.

Just been in a Mk4 2.0tdci taxi, it had done 830,000 kms. Apart from a decomposed gearknob it felt in good shape.

FML,had this happen today, expansion tank cap decided to disintegrate rather than open 🙄

Bit of a bigger to remove the remains from the tank too.

Luckily the main dealer had a new one in stock for the princely sum of €8.57.

Just driven this old girl over and back to the UK.

2,575km in all,well loaded up.

Did numerous run to the recycling center, including getting rid of an old shed(that in itself took three well loaded goes)

Does a car get any better that a mk4 Mondeo?

I had one that had just had a new bag in, I was surprised as it was over 14 years old, wouldn’t have thought they’d bother.

My 2004 e60 had to go to Halliwell Jones for a battery cable. Cheaper than a law suit.

They are recalling those Takata airbags all over the shop, my van (2010 Vito) is in for it next week.

It's a cause of consternation for some owners as there is also an outstanding recall for a dieselgate software fix for most of them, which the lads with remaps and no EGR/DPF etc obviously don't want.

I would have just thought there only a finite length of time they owe you a duty of care so to speak?

I guess not for things that might explode or go on fire

What engine oil do you use when you do a change? Any preference? Is the genuine ford stuff expensive?

5w30 Fully Synth Low Saps. Wouldn’t bother with the genuine Ford oil, it’s just Castrol anyway. Mannol pretty good, expect £60 or so for 20 litres. Bosch for the filters.

The powershite box- learn something new every day or Ford are talking shite.

Finally found a local garage that will change the fluid in the Mondeo.

Very reasonable quote, but no filter itemised.

Went to see them. Ford have told them, there are 3 types of powershift box (news to me) and mine does not have a filter.

Every YT vid I've seen for the Powershite box has a filter.

Booked it in for two weeks time. If they find it does have a filter, they can sort it out with Ford.

In two weeks time, expect a post along the lines of ' Powershift failure' :(

Can be a bit hit and miss with these things. It either buys it some new life or it shits itself on the newer thinner oil. Make sure they are set up for a job like this and they’re not one of these back ‘o beyond places that think it’s like changing the fluid on an a Sierra.

Bon chance, mon ami.

I'm quite surprised to hear there's no filter but I've only seen one and that was the one I fixed.

Fluid and filter was really no harder than doing a normal engine oil and cartridge filter. Filling up involved checking the level at a certain temp which needed Forscan/Foreskin but it wasn't hard.

Instinct suggests new fluid can't hurt but I'm no expert. I really hope you continue to disprove the rule that 'all Powershifts are shite m9'.

They are set up ok. Vag specialist and done plenty of dsg boxes.

They were my regular garage, when the Mrs had her TT.
