I really, really like that.

Turns out the company that built it like playing with other Longbridge shite as well.

They have a few videos of the Zt on FaceFarce, and a couple of photos here: http://www.mglifestyleuk.co.uk/projects/

Intrigued to see what they do next.

Eye of the beholder and all that, but...

Those pictures look as if they should have been taken by the hilairiously* named Fly Tipping in a retail park in Chelmsford with two spotty birds showing their Wonderbra enhanced cleavages, draped over them.

Really? I honestly think their version of the ZT saloon/coupe looks like something that MG should have created. Cap doffed.

There was a much neater looking coupe done a couple of years back, this just looks like a Barryboy special that is made largely of Isopon and an old BMW 3 series they got from a scrapper

Is the wheelbase the same? I actually quite like it....

Jaguar XF wheels on the coupe too. IMO it doesn't look too bad to me, maybe bmw 1 series mixed with Gemma collins. Maybe not then.

FFS you don't half come out with some drivel

I think these cars are interpretations of the ZT 385 that didn’t make it to market due to the demise of MGR. The grey one looks quite good, I can’t say I’m a fan of the coupe version

Looking at their website they seem to built cars that MG rover had in prototype form and didn’t finish or bring to market? However they seem to have a bit of a Barry boys element in the mix too which :/

A chap in West Wales has made a much more faithful roadgoing interpretation of the original Zt/75 coupe concept. Still using beemer windows and roof transplanted off a nearly new written off 4series coupe. Here it is at pride of Longbridge. He also previously made the push me pull me 75 as well.Talented bloke. post-20412-0-89783000-1518311949_thumb.jpg

Red car is nice. The blobby ones look like Audi tiny cock overcompensatory aggrandisement fails that have been improved with Rover lamp assemblies, albeit looking rather out of place being a quite elegant design of lamp in spite of lacking in amber segments. I don't know if the bloated wheelarches are intended to resemble a stonking great big pair of bollocks, but I'm certain I'd feel a huge prick were I positioned between them.

Fuck me, waking at 3 AM with acid reflux does seem to make me a bitchy little tart.

The red coupe, which is the one Felly refers to and shown in a field, is a beauty. Really nicely done, and yes, it is a BMW 3-series roof. I can't agree with Felly on the execution.

I don't normally care much for the MG Z cars, but the coupe looks really good IMO. Window line is slightly dodgy looking but not too bad.

Well, I think it’s a lovely thing and a shame MG/Rover died without producing a 75 Coupe or a V8 shooting brake. Anyone who says ooh, full of clag, or BMW bits.... go on, show us what you’ve done...

Before ripping the blue one to bits, the armchair experts should take a look at the photos of it being built. Lengthening the doors, moving the B-pillar and all that. Getting the new side windows to go up and down in these stretched doors, It's well impressive. I don't much like the wheels myself, but the idea that Felly, who comes on here kicking off cos a fuel pump swap on his Mondeo has left him bed-ridden for 3 weeks, can slag it off is ridiculous

Posted

Felly can slag it off all he wants and I agree with him.

I spend my life in the garage and 7 hours in bed. Whats that got to do with an opinion?

Ah, so that's the red coupe which people have mentioned. First time I've seen or heard of it. Whilst it looks slick, the wheels don't do a pile for me, and I still prefer the blue version of the coupe.

If I had to pay for the running costs of a V8, I'd prefer something which snarled, rather than purred. I also love the fact that the company are happy to play around with MG Rover rubbish, when most would shake their heads and take the piss.

the blue one looks a bit like an rx8 to me, also not a fan really. The red one is really nice though.

The blue one isn't a bad effort all things considered, the wheels don't suit it though. The red one on the other hand looks more faithful to the original but must have taken an awful lot of work. A ZT V8 coupe could have been pretty special, shame it never made production.

OK whether you like it or not its clever stuff IMO:

Looks like he has retained the complete BMW B-pillar down to sill level, and used the BMW door shells with Rover 75 skins grafted on!!

rear view of the blue one spoils it... front view aint too bad... the red coupe is gorgeous, as is the estate

Posted

It's definitely clever stuff and if it was painted in the original red with standard arches and bumpers, complete with the wheels in that picture , I'd be in the loving it camp too.

I didn't like the 90's big bodykit/ smooth wheels look in the 90's, less is more, sometimes. Although I admit that as a talking point to get their business noticed, it's doing its job and the more subtle 'factory' look has already been done .

It's almost surprising that Rover didn't waste time and resources cobbling a Coupe together, after all it couldn't have been any more pointless than the SV or ZTV8 for a company whose core market was daily rental companies and people who modelled themselves on Hyacinth Bouquet's husband.

I think what b0l is saying to Felly is: "If you think it's shit, show me you can build a better one."

Top one isn't to my taste either but the work involved to get that result must have been enormous. I preferred it before the wide arches went on; I'd have got it to that stage and stopped. It was done by Retro (nee MG) Lifestyle, which had to change its name because SAIC got all litigious.

That's right, threaten one of the few latter MG specialists with a lawsuit because your day to day operations are running so beautifully, aren't they?

Wish we could see more of the ZT Estate. That looks as hard as fook.

The blue coupe isn't too my taste. I think the huge wheels spoil the proportions. It looks better in the build stages photos.

Blue one reminds me of a Monaro

Agreed. I like Monaros.

*Awaits onslaught of further Barry, bollocks, penis size and other absolutely hilarious* gags.

Obviously the Rover 75 Coupe isn't a new thing, (though being fitted with a V8 is). I think Rover (then) were seriously considering full production of the 75 Coupe but of course all the crap happened when Rover shut down for good.

As I undertand, This MG ZT Coupe was originally a Rover 75 but had MG stuff added when Rover fell on bad times. Apparently this example still exists and lives in Longbridge (fron what I understood having read about it a few years ago, I can believe this as there are few "one-offs" living at the Longbridge Museum by Q-Gate.

It looks a lot better in real life, really good in fact. Saw it when I took the 75 V8 for a service. It has a fancy 3 valve engine too.

A huge amount of love, work and effort has gone into the car. I don't mean to sound all 'blue forum' but its a bit off to call someone's hard work 'shit' on a 1 second inspection of some duff camera phone pics.
