Had a driving lesson today and it rained so heavily! I think visibility was down to something like a few metres in front, it was that bad. I should have hated it, but for some reason loved it. Probably makes me quite an odd person.

Those bin wagons are pretty powerful nowadays.

322 bhp. 378 lb ft. Nuff said.

I can't believe you bought a straight six when there's a V8 version.

You'll be driving a 3 pot korean dizzler by xmas. 8)

I know, I know. I don't want to spend XJR V8 money just yet. I wouldn't buy an early XJR V8 (Nikasil, eek), and I don't see the point in buying a post 2001 one (extra big road tax), so this'll do until a nice, black W reg XJR V8 turns up for sensible money at some point.

Until then, this'll do nicely.

3 pot Korean Dizzla... No. Just No.

OK, so I took a job at the start of the year. Basically training people to do my old job. Partly because I fancied a change after 10 years of repairing shit, and partly because I'd heard rumours (since proven quite accurate) that my old job was at risk,

Since then I've been up and down on it.... some days good, some days I just want to get my screwdrivers out and immerse myself in fixing other people's electronic goods. I kept thinking I wasn't cut out for training.

This morning, I ran a little course for new folks. Just an induction, tour of the site and stuff. I'm getting quite used to doing it. Quite a good group, everyone went off happy. This afternoon, I was going through all their packs signing it off, when I noticed two out of the twelve had written nice comments about me in the "comments" section. One called me a very nice man :)

I felt great after that.

Scored myself a nice pre-birthday treat this afternoon.

Anyone like to guess, except those in the know of course!

Yes, it's a mid-70s S-class, although with someone sitting on the badge I can't tell you if it's a 280 six-pot or a 450 V8.

An MG Maestro 2.0 EFi, moonraker blue on cheesegrater alloys?

Posted

Has it got air con and a talking dash?

EFA

Sorry, miles away. Although that would have been a treat!

That's one of my dream cars. When I was about 12 or 13 there was a gorgeous petite wee blonde round here with a Maestro exactly that. I was in love with the car and her (in that order)

I remember one of my dad's friends having a moonraker blue Maestro EFi, B84 CEV was the reg, he had it for years but it was pretty rusty towards the end, He used to pick me up from my karate lesson in when i was 14. 8)

Just been listening to Radcliffe/Maconie/Harding at the Cambridge Folk Festival. Never really thought it would be my bag (maan) but there were some great acts and wonderful music. Listen again, here we come! :D

I think mine was called Moonraker Blue, I just called it dirty-blue. It had plastic hubcaps on steel wheels! What a sleeper that thing was. I blew away many a backward baseball cap with that, and after a nine-mile commute down country lanes at 6am, it was impossible for me to arrive at work without a grin on my chops. F353 PHG if you come across it, I loved that car.

oh yeah, nearly forgot: getting my ass whipped by my missus around Spa on Race Driver Grid is making me grin.

(I normally have to take her out for dinner and champagne first before she'll whip my ass.)

It's still shown as being taxed!

I was lent an 2.0 EFi Maestro in '92 when my car was in for a few jobs.

Blue, I think it was, possibly D reg. I remember it was hyuuuge inside compared to a Mk2 Escort.. it was pretty much as quick as a standard RS2000 Mk2, it went round corners quite well, torque steered rather a lot, and wasn't awful other than the gearchange being dire compared to an RS one. That's fair enough though, almost every gearchange is dire compared to the Mk2 RS one.

It did fall apart around me though, and it broke down after a day or two and had to be recovered back to them. Fuel pump had died.

I despise most 70's and 80's Austin / Morris tat but the MG Maestro isn't a bad old thing. No less reliable than a Fuego / Delta / XR3i and quicker than most.

For some reason the C4 is doing mega MPGs at the moment. I zero the trip meter every time I fill the tank, and then wipe my arse with copies of What Car. And yes, the diagram of the car in profile is a 3 door C4, but never mind eh, I like to have some idea of where I've been.

Today I set a record before the fuel light came on:

716 miles on 56 litres. Roughly that's 58 MPG. 'Twill do, that. That's better than Smug Bastard Manager #1 at work, who has A Prius Which Is Clearly Saving The World By Doing 39 MPG Every Time He Fills The Tank.

Wow, it's actually good at something. I will take that comment back. But that's all I'm taking back.

Went to collect an ABS module from Nantwich the other day and was confronted by a 36ft straw meerkat.

The toilets at work had so many taped off areas they were beginning to resemble a crime scene. So someone completed the look. Cleaner didn’t take it too well...

LOL @ CSI Bathroom.

Love the Meerkat as well. Class that. There should be more of that kind of thing. Liverpool had 100 odd Superlambananas a couple of years ago, which I loved, but a 50ft straw meerkat takes some beating..
