I'd be game to help drive one back, especially if I can borrow your alcohol allowance as a passenger..  Should be in Toulon over the summer at some point.

I don't think that's quite what I said...!  Need to knock at least two zeroes off that one.

My dad had 3 for work. The last one brand new and i remember it looking as perfectly mint as this one. If i had the money I would've bought this over much more exotic classics!

More French fancies this afternoon. Enjoy a quick tour of the sort of thing about

All LeBonCoin:

About 170 Chrysler PT Cruisers 😁

Bedford CF-renchness for sale  - everything @€3000 or under - most very significantly so.

Or cars. An early Wyvern with engine failure. €2500. Super-rare in France if not unique.

These early ones have lovely detailing.

Well that was an interesting hour!  I've just had a little trawl of leboncoin for CFs.  Most of what's on offer is diesel, unfortunately.  In an uncanny parallel to the UK market, there's a lot of scrap, and a few tidy campers, but in France there does seem to be more in between.

So, nothing for me right now, but I've got plenty of time.

Would you be willing to use lhd here (obvs you've more experience of that than most) or would you be willing to buy the right van in France then try to convert it?

Oh I'd have no hesitation driving LHD here.  As you say, I do have the experience.  I wouldn't think of attempting a conversion ( @thomashenderson will be pleased to know, as it would be his hands on the spanners!).  Anything I buy is for driving.

I drive in Europe with rhd for some parts of the year. Never a problem I find. Elevated driving position and good mirrors here in the UK with a CF should be fine. Being kerbside has its advantages.

Also I'm always driving old stuff so I never need to worry about overtaking - I'm just not going fast enough 😅

What about checking Germany for Opel Blitz?

RHD W168 A-Class from Leicester to Aachen was a good run and being next to the parked cars really helped a LOT.

Also driving through Belgium made me appreciate the Morons from Outer Space joke when the spaceship is hurtling past Luton on the M1 and terrorises a Cortina Estate.

OK, thanks @RichardK.  I've just been on ebay.de.  Hardly anything showed up when I searched for Opel Blitz, but then I remembered they also had it with the Bedford badge, so I tried that.  A handful of campers, which is not what I really want, starting at 3500 euros, which is way over budget; and one ice cream van valued at half my house!  Oh and nearly all diesel.

So the search continues.  Might have a look at ebay.fr and .nl..... I really don't mind LHD, I just hadn't considered it for "my" CF until now.

Any CF candidates knocking around in other RHD territories? Malta, South Africa, Australia, NZ …

Actually you know what... I might, but it would have to be better, cheaper and closer.

Nice thought, but we're up against the cost of shipping.  Ideally I wouldn't have to go further than, say, Preston!

@FakeConcern see what you've done now... I've just been reading about that Rascal.  Re-reading in fact, because I spotted it the other day.  And going through the pics.

That specific van is too much work for me to take on.  A similar van with MoT and ready to drive home might be worth what he's asking, but I'm well aware they have the structural integrity of toilet roll, without the cardboard tube!  Despite that, they are a giggle to drive.  I had a Honda Acty as a work van 45 years ago and I can still remember how much fun it was.  And they fit in parking spaces!

I've never driven one, but about 1978 (I think) when I worked in a petrol station some lad I knew had one of those Honda vans and came to get petrol. Some other mates turned up as he finished and got out of their car and as he went to drive off, lifted the rear wheel off the ground so it just span and stayed still. They did it numerous times before the hilarity wore off!

You need to track down a Vauxhall Albany. This is your new mission.

Hmmm....

14 Apr 2024  The Albany was a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre petrol producing a heady 82hp. Performance figures weren't referred to in the launch materials.

Launch?  More of a gradual seep!  But a petrol Midi?  Sure, why not?  Apart from the structural issues it shares with the Rascal, I would, if the price was right.  I mean, that governs the whole project really.
