That is not saying much though!

OOH, excites! Bear in mind you need at least 1 border crossing for it to be a valid estate collection!

Today, just got better.

Not for us.

Doubleyeller strikes again.

He's been over to Ireland and brought a Renault 20TX back on the ferry this morning.

Unfortunately, it didn't sink.

So now we're in the R16 waiting for a recovery truck.

Despite the autobox being stuck in second, Doubleyeller made it to the outskirts of the Yorkshire Dales before his front brakes stuck on.

The 3G emergency assistance service was summoned.

We removed one of the wheels, but then the car shifted slightly and bent the jack. Not only did we fail to unseize the brakes, but we now can't get the wheel back on.

This is the quality service you've come to expect from the Granadaland Situation Exacerbators.

It'll be fine, I think we established recently that brake parts for these old Renners are plentiful and easy to find.

No, it's Citroens of that era that do that, not Renaults.

Dearie me... does no-one understand 30-year old French chod?

(Genuinely didn't realise you meant the ferry for a moment there!) :)

Was that from Warrenpoint by any chance?

I'm sure* I recognise it and know the P/O.

The Renaultmobile eventually arrived.

...and with that, we had to bid Doubleyeller goodbye as he had to accompany his new car to a local garage.

By now it was dinnertime, so Junkman and myself left to find something to eat. We've struggled with a Michelin circle today,

so we thought we deserved something with a Michelin star for dinner.

Well, close enough.

I read somewhere they claimed responsibility.

Bournemouth car, same letters as my Victor had.

Did they allow people to buy Renaults in Bournemouth back then?

Is this going to be used as spares for the Renault 30?

No - this 20 is in truly great condition. the Renault 30 is in absolutley dire condition. I am going to focus my efforts on the R20 now. The R30 project is not good for my health, so I am now going to offer it to whoever wants it. The R20 even had a respray 5 years ago! Absolutely no way is it going to be broken up. Not even to save the R30!

Ooh, stuck in second.

Proper autobox updated with a Renault designed analogue computer to make the decisions / drive the solenoids.

This tiny box of electronics is unbelievably crude, there is not even any proper power supply decoupling. I bet that saved several whole Centimes production cost.

Works a treat though when it works.

Best** source of information on these transmissions are the Delorean websites.

**ok, not as good as a '70s Renault automatic transmission expert.

Yep, this was my uncle's!

Only saw it probably once shortly after he got it a good few years back. Looked quite a nice thing, but I think his 16 got more use, it's a lovely thing too. Hope the autobox issues turn out to be something simplish!

I remembered Renault 20/30 as being huge, executive motor cars, and there it is little bigger than the R16. Saw the 16 at Cannock a couple of weeks ago, could have shoved it in the boot of the Vel Satis.

Slightly OT BUT could someone explain what GGG stands for? Checked the lexicon to no avail

I am always staggered too - principally at just how blood narrow they are! Still, I am pleased to report that the R20 is still as outstandingly comfortable as I remember it. Cars clearly haven't improved in all areas!

That's the Little Chef at the top road by Skipton, right? Been in there to use the bogs many a time!
