Height reduction springs for the Rover arrived today, almost a week ahead of when I expected them to.  They're pretty heavy and feel like a quality thing, I'm looking forward to getting them fitted and then crying about speedbumps.  I'd be out there fitting them now except the tools are four miles away, I have no transport and I was up most of last night with gutrot so I'm taking it easy today.

I do. This one:

It belonged to Partridge of this parish.

I'll wait for the XM thought police to come and tell me it's crap :)

much better photo of it - it's a PSA group product of the 1990s and therefore crap - but much better crap than they make now!

Ambitious collection gamble was a TOTAL DISASTER!

Kids: never ever go to West Wales from The Fens on a school night to pick up a free Renault. EVER.

Renault build a better car - but sometimes its head gaskets have other ideas.

Probably the weirdest collection I've experienced.

It's a manual Laguna Monaco 3.0 24v, BTW.

More misery when it lands at Captain Slow's.

I wonder how much a set of top end gaskets will cost for that bugger?

Is that the Renault that was advertised as free to a good home due to HGF? Not a surprise really.

It's not a surprise and I wasn't angry. Still the only FTP collection I've had.

Dad text me tonight to say his Focus broke down and had to be towed to the garage. Had it for over 10 years, never let him down, gone straight through every MOT but looks like its number might be up.

In other news, I am liking the relaxing nature of the Rover 75, if not the fuel consumption. Nice and relaxing to drive around town in, although I do love the auto box for cruising and slow moving traffic, there are times I wish I could reach over and do it myself. Hopefully last until the summer where I will likely get something a bit more interesting

A bit news, but also grin and grump.

Grin, I ordered some parts for Storia #1 from Japan, they've arrived in under a week.

Grump, customs duty, VAT blah blah, another £120 .... bollocks.

News, the Storia I bought in Ireland (3 years ago Billy) should be back on the road soon ... and might even make a GLF appearance at some point, though probably not Crail.

Those two options were not what I had in mind at all...

Driving a rust-prone 50's shitheap at this time of the year is a minority sport and early this cold damp horrible morning I could actually hear the salt chomping at me sills. But what's this in the mirror?

As we go round a corner I see the fuckers a woody so a quick hose down at the weekend ain't going to cover it.

Probably no heater in the thing, just an open fire.

Radweld in the 607 has stopped the steam from coming out of the exhaust.

Refitted the carburettor on 604 and it runs much, much better.  It backfires if you try to rev it too quickly.

I need to get it on a mate's gas analyser and hopefully get it good for an MOT.

It turned out that the baseplate was loose and so it was letting in air.

Edited for you and I'm allowed to say that as I was born there

West Wales is fine, it's just the people that are the problem!

No it's true, I've watched enough Hinterland to know that West Wales is full of murderers, nutters, stalkers and arsonists.

More Scimitar Braking news:

The new spacers meant that the origonal caliper bolts were going to be too short, so I ordered some new ones online, I usually buy my imperal bolts locally, but wanted high tensile for such a a safety critical application. in the end I went for 10.9 bolts rather than the more common 8.8 sourced from Magnor: http://www.margnor.co.uk/bolts/10-9bolts/unf10-9. Because of the limited availability of UNF bolts in this specification the bolts were selected to have the optimal unthreaded length, rather than the overall length this they were all over length and needed turning down to suit:

As it turns out the set of brake pins I'd given Dave to use as a sample were actually the longer jag XJS pins. (think i'd bought them cheap on ebay at some point!) They would probably have been fine to use but as we had the stainless available Dave made some 316 stainless ones up, The new ones are a touch longer to make them a better fit in the caliper body.

I've also splashed out on a set of stainless backplates which with the addidtion of a couple of brackets should be ideal:

on order are a set of stainless bleed screws and unions as If your going to overdo a job it you may as well go the whole hog!

The Next step will be to either send the calipers off for complete refurbishment or send them somewhere local for cleaning and plating and order the pistons and seals seperately, the latter option is probably the more likely!

Cheers. Joe

I got the renewal for Herman (My BMW 728), £65/mo for full comp, I'm 25, in the bottom of Cornwall, with 7 years NCB and a no-fault accident on the books from last year. I'll also be getting 3rd party extension this year.

Last year however, I was paying £60/mo.

What do you reckon?

I'm paying less than that per month for the cx, 320i and the 306-306 even has business use. All fully comp. Same amount of ncb but I am 9rs older. Cars all parked in the street

I'd shop around

It is pricey, admittedly, however, they were brilliant when I actually needed to claim, and they don't charge for amendments, and its cheap enough to add the wife to it when she needs it.

On the flip side, I've gone with the cheapest insurance providers for the last 8 years, and I've always, always had some issue to ring up about, twice I've been sent documents for someone else, twice I've had the wrong reg no on the certificates, once, they cancelled it without notifying me!

Third party extension is the sweetener really, and it means I don't have to piss around sending photocopies of my license etc.

I've compared meerkats and compared varieties of go, and looked suitably confused whilst doing so, and it actually turned out to be the cheapest anyway, so win-win.

LOVE that fridge Alexg (if that's what it is).

Today I accidentally stumbled across this webpage that may hold some interest for others - http://360.haubits.net/

There appears to be a random selection of Volvo owners manuals, technical drawings, pictures, brochures and all sorts of other stuff.

When I was in secondary school, my art teacher had boxes and boxes of brochures (all the same!) For Volvo 240 and Volvo 340.

No idea why.
