Volvos for everyone in Scotland, that's what I say.

Not just Scotland, can we have them in Wales as well?

I keep forgetting to post this beauty I saw I a shop the other week.

Would go lovely screwed to the dash of a nice brown Corolla and match the fancy tissue box at the back

My mum rang me late last night to tell me how much she likes my Rover 75. She still thinks the only thing posher than a Rover is a Rolls Royce, bless her!

A very kind gentleman has brought me a red Land Rover. I apologise to Spud if I came across as a complete nutter, especially when I momentarily forgot where the railway station is, but I am not good with people. The Land Rover is as described and I am very pleased. Top seller +++ etc. I have just got back from the other house having fitted the Ifor Williams top and now tightened the J bolts that hold it on. They were only finger tight as a complete spanner forgot that he had already brought his spanners over to this house.

In case anyone is not familiar with Land Rovers, that is not a scale model oil refinery on the bonnet, but somewher to fix the spare wheel.

Let me somehow be the first to congratulate you. That looks effing epic. Even better than in the FS thread now it's got a tin hat on. I hope you're taking it straight up a slag heap and then through a shallow slow moving river.

I've got half the roof pipe job done on the pug. The next bit is reconnecting the small ram and the fiddly task of refitting the ram to the car.

So far with the Land Rover I have not driven up any slag heaps, (the slags are not in a heap, but are spread rather more evenly around here), nor have I forded any streams/rivers. I have however taken it to work and braved the car-park by Greggs. There was a minor problem with a rear indicator not working, where I have reconnected the wires that had come loose, and the fixed the reverse lamp at the same time as the wires were loose on that as well. I'm really impressed with it, it drives very nicely and actually goes where you point it, without wandering all over the place, unlike some of the older ones I've had.

Whilst I would still love another Series 1, I think I have done the right thing for my current circumstances by buying a more civilised one.

Had a brief look at the A4's headlights, comapring the wiring and bulb layouts.

We have 3 different types: prefacelift H4 (bought these cheap as the car's light had broken mounting clips), prefacelift H7 with an extra bulb (??? original lights, we've only got 1), and facelift projector (1 got, expecting another to arrive soon).

Prefacelift lights have a 5 pin plug for lights and a 3 pin plug for dip motors, the projector consolidates these into an 8 pin plug with pin 8 blanked.

Comparing the car's (prefacelift) wiring loom to the projector lamp, the 8th wire has nowhere to go.

Turns out on prefacelift cars, if you specced foglights, then you got different headlight units with an extra bulb as opposed to auxiliary lights (the facelift got these, and that's why the 8th pin is blanked - it goes off elsewhere instead).

Stupid eh? We thought the car had lost its foglights when it had the front bumper bodged - nope, they were just weirdly placed and we removed them without realising. They'll be reinstated as projector plus auxiliary if we ever get the facelift front bumper on.

A customer that owns a 66 sunbeam alpine rings me up and says I'm having trouble with my headlights, I've tried adjusting them but they're so low

I was surprised when he turned up in his 15 plate Ford Focus, he was talking about his new car, put it on the beam tester and they are on 2.75% when on zero, set them to 5 and they're lighting up the floor.

A bit of twiddling with a 7mm Allen key and I had them set up right.

I was quite surprised that it had a plastic slam panel too, it was a 999cc 3 pot petrol turbo

Our 20 year old A4 has a fibreglass slam panel, not too surprising really.

H7 bulbs are shit, you should avoid using them if at all possible. I have a conspiracy theory that H7s were used purely to groom the market for HiD.

Fitted a new bog.

Forgot what a pain in the arse getting compression fittings to go on in a confined space.

I don't think this will bother Old Man too much, he's far too busy being excited about the projector light units looking nicer, and the LED sidelight bulbs he has.

(Old Man is also one of the 'OMG K&N FILTER = +5HP' idiots).

Dropped the Saab off at my not so local (20 miles away) Saab specialist for gearbox leak and exhaust fixing and a proper service. It will probably cost more than I paid for the car but I have become rather attached to the Swedish hatch which returns 35mpg and goes like a scalded cat even with a couple of hundred kilos of allegro engine in the back which I still haven't removed since I picked it up on the way back from chodmongly....

Speaking of Allegros the constant rain the last few months has curtailed any hope of getting work done as the car is outside although I have collected plenty of parts in the meantime. I have now found some storage to rent at a very reasonable rate so will be able to empty all my accumulated junk out of the garage and actually use it for the purpose intended. Hopefully with the addition of a small tent/gazebo thingy at the front of the garage both the allegro and the 1100 will be undercover and work can then commence on both vehicles over the winter.

The Yank van was booked in for a test tomorrow, but I've found quite a few jobs that need doing first and the place I take my motors to hasn't got time to do them at the moment.  So I've run the blue Mondeo in instead.  In theory that should just need a new front coil spring fitting (which I've already bought), but we shall see what the tester finds...

Went to a job interview today and got it, job is only temporary though which will last around a couple of months.

Rover performed perfectly but at Ma's house it decided to go all "elderly incontinent person" a shot a load of coolant out from the bottom of the rad. Excelsior. Rovers seem to have a knack for doing this. My G-reg 827 Sterling did this a few times in all and look what happened to that!

My new job is a good drive away in the centre of Brum so looks like this'll need sorting soon rather than later.

The joys of owning an old Rover eh!

Collecting two Princess sills tomorrow, one for each side.  They are less than 20 miles away.  I am full of glee.

Currently pay around £500 to insure the Rover with Adrian Flux.  Renewal comes through, £780.  Er, how?  Just as well I'd already planned to switch provider then.

I just saw an actual Citroen ZX Mk1 Estate!

I'd given up on the idea of them even ever having been imported.

I've scoured ebay and Gumtree for a couple of years hoping to see one for sale.

I didn't catch the exact model (engine and what have you). An old couple just bumbling past in it. Took me by surprise. I wasn't in a position to give chase and flag them down :(

I thought there was only 1 model of ZX?

Perhaps I should have said 'pre-facelift'.

Posted

Didn't even know there was a "face-lift" of it.

This is a thing though. Some cars that get new panels, dash and stuff get called a mk 1/2/whatever but some get just called a facelift/update

Not much difference I know. Original is more quirky.
