Oh! I saw that at Shotley (the one on the back of the recovery truck in Trig's photo, I'm guessing it's the same car). It's not in bad nick and it's the same year as the blue one my dad used to have.

Great spotting skills trig!!

That interior is velourtastic, hope a deal can be had rob!

Ah of course, I remember it from your thread now Trig. It doesn't have PAS which for a pansy urbanite like myself could be an issue, and the old boy himself said it's better as a distance cruiser because of that. I won't be mega disappointed if I miss out as my budget is shoestring, so I'm probably better off buying more shit, dirt cheap Vauxhalls. WANT CAVALIER, CASH WAITING!

I haz bought another car, despite being over-limit already  Collection thread to follow at the end of the week.

Help.

Accord coupe had 2 blown bulbs today dipped beam on the right main beam on the left, so I took the opportunity to order upgraded bulbs, Christ they are expensive now, £25 for twin pack of Osram night breakers and I needed to replace both sets of HB3 and HB4s, £52 in total, and not a cybersexmonday deal in sight anywhere.

I took the allegro to my local tyre place today to have some new boots fitted (a small independent outfit run by a couple of guys in their 20s)

I pulled up outside and they went nuts over it, taking photos and generally enthusing over it. Is the public perception finally changing of BL stuff?

Of course they could have been taking the piss..

I get really bored when I haven't a car to use, and just lately it's even more annoying as I've got people and places to go to that I can't as they're well outside of walking distance or public transport cost.  Waiting for the replacement ball joint and gear selector rod arriving for the Xantia so it can go for the MoT and because I can't move it I can't even clean it.  Weirdly, the Xantia has stopped letting water in so that leak is going to be even harder to find, I'm sure!

Hoping to get the Princess back into the unit in another week or two, I really want to crack on with the welding over the festive period so I can then just focus on the easier mechanical stuff that I want to get sorted.  Seriously considering getting the displacers modified so they can have the nitrogen refilled properly before I put new fluid in the car, by all accounts it solves the issue of bursting spheres and improves the ride... but it's also 90 Eurocoins per corner plus postage to Germany and back so it's not cheap.  More places are starting to do it locally so prices may start to fall, it's not something I'm confident I can DIY.

I really want the Xantia road legal and the Princess pretty close to road legal before I collect the Renault,  I'll be able to devote a more sensible amount of time to the Renault that way.

Strangely, I don't want to buy more cars.  Helping Mike at the garage seems to have cured my incessant need for new cars to tinker with and despair of.

Today I finally finished my big garage sort out. It became a bit* of a dumping ground for various bits of house when I redecorated the whole thing earlier in the year, and had my red bug shell languishing in the corner. With wanting to crack on with my 'sports beetle', I decided to clear it out, relocate the red bug shell and get the mx5 inside so I can strip it without getting rain down my asscrack and not being able to see owt.

I've only got one before pic, it was a right state...

Anyway, after a day with my mates giant car trailer again, and 4 focus estate fulls of crap deposited at the tip, I got everything back shipshape and swept it out. Lovely :)

Next was to get the MX5 inside, should have been easy that, the thing runs and drives! However the bleedin' drivers door lock decided to give up the ghost so I couldn't get in the door!! I'd parked it right next to my fence in the drive so I could squeeze past so I had a right nightmare clambering through the roof. Got there in the end though. I'd also bought some 4 wheeled dollies to aid moving the car around in the garage, these things are THE BOMB! I can just push it wherever I need it now rather than fighting a losing battle with a trolley jack and loads of heaving.

Marvellous!

I finally got the drivers door open after tearing the doorcard off and beating and screwdrivering the lock mechanism, so whipped both the doors and the bonnet off. wings, bumpers trim etc will come at the weekend once I've got some more lighting in the garage.

That's about it, all tidy and ready to work in.

I seriously need to sort my garage out. Would be nice to get the XM in there, but my piles of mess have left only a 2CV-shaped space.

I've got some of those dollies they're excellent especially if you've got a tight space

18 passed it's MOT today.

Forgot how loud it was from the outside but the plus side is now that the holes are welded it's much quieter inside!

Had a bit of a shit myself moment where the headlights stopped working on a dark country road so I pulled over but then remembered the switch is dodgy, wiggled and continued on my way.

I love this car.

Morning sitrep -

The 18 got me to work successfully, though the rear screen heater takes ages to clear the screen, but on the plus side the car now runs at normal temperature and has a pretty good heater. It's extremely cold here at the minute.

rangie started first thing and burbled away. I was thinking last night if Vauxhall would ever bring back the Viva name. Well, I saw the paper this morning and they are. It won't be a sales rep hedge magnet this time, though.

My Dad has just come back from having the x1/9 MOTed. All ok, no advisories. Main thing of note was that it's only gone 134 miles since the last one. We must use it more it's £2 a mile just for VED and insurance!

Been to a "tuning show" with my brother in law today in Essen. Quite an unusual mix of people and cars - most major German mamufacturers had a stand, tuning firms, tyre companies, and a hall with cars enthusiasts Had modified, with varying degrees of success. There was an owners club area and a classic car sales area with optimistic prices familiar to people who may have been to the technoclassica at the same venue

Evening sitrep -

18 has developed a coolant leak from the water pump (this has happened before and was remedied by K seal), I've since changed the coolant, so I'm going to eurocarparts tomorrow and will lob a bottle of K seal in.

Which means I'm left with a 340 that has no working fuel gauge, rev counter or temp gauge, an annoyingly temperamental starter and a rattly boot.

Great!

Park the 340 at a petrol station, start it, jam the fuel hose in the open cap(and wedge so always delivering) and get the hose off the air/water and spray it over engine constantly.

Voila, no starting issues, no overheating issues and no running out of fuel.

I've never seen a suggestion that makes more sense than this.

Probably still need to use the choke.

Battery lead for the SD1 has arrived.

I will find out if modern batteries are all they are cracked up to be by seeing if a brand new fiesta item is capable of starting a Rover V8.

If it is'nt I have a battery from my diesel vectra on standby.

Spent today finishing off jobs on the civic. Tidied up the reversing sensor install.

Removed generic pas fluid and put in proper Honda fluid. Fitted 2nd hand working rear wiper motor (again a piece of piss due to Honda making it really easy).

Then changed brake fluid. Using the drill bit in nipple method I managed to crack them all with no shearing. First issue is that ezibleed wouldn't fit the brake fluid container, so dug out my hand pump vacuum bleeder. That was a waste of space. I can see why it was only £14. Then tried a different one man bleeding kit, but that didn't work.

I have managed to flush the fluid through but cant get the air out. Missus moog is going to refuse to sit in a freezing cold garage and i have a lack of other helpers.

Any suggestions of what to buy/try?

disable mrs moog car- then inform her that in order to fix her car she needs to help get your car out of the designated work area
