Air con is now fully functioning in the merc. Nice new condenser, pipe and pressure switch (same as a Ferrari apparently - cost as much anyway). No leaks and reached 3.7degrees at the central air vent.

I love that renner 6 but am slightly traumatised by the hiab damage to the roof.

Had to buy a clutch for the Xantia, it suddenly got worse today.  Also, I appear to be losing the feeling in both of my hands, which is a bit worrying, so it's off to the GP for that one.

Posted

huh, GP up here is different to what I'm used to.  Friendly, approachable, and reckons I could have a B12 deficiency so they need to steal some of my precious blood just as soon as I work up the courage to actually let them stick needles in me.  So that's something.

Xantia decided to celebrate by letting a 4" square of the undertray hang loose and skitter about underneath, so Mike's going to fix that later at the unit.  Maybe it's just excited to be getting a new clutch and is shedding parts out of the way for me to make the job easier?

Was peeing about sorting through a big box of car parts I have and have found the front inner arch guards for my mk1 sierra, I had given up hope of ever finding them again as they were removed 9 years ago when I replaced the wings, then I moved house and never saw them again, i have moved house since then, so I was pretty chuffed.

Think I'd be pretty chuffed to own a mk1 Sierra

I am everytime I think about it, i am waiting for a slot in the bodyshop for a respray (been waiting around 6 months), then I can put her on road and enjoy,

I say buy one before osf tax hits them

I say buy one before osf tax increases from A Bit Daft to Mind-numbingly Ludicrous.

I can't! Too many fiestas, and as I'm weird I would want a 1.6 3 door but not in that nasty blue, which of course are mega rare.

I could get an rs turbo though and strip out all the crap, change the engine to a nice pinto...... 😕

All sorted thanks to a spare one I had squirrelled away last time I had one of these on fleet.

Spent this morning driving a Transit for a friend of mine. I must own a big van for a bit as I bloody love driving vans. The novelty would probably wear off after a couple of days though.

In the meantime, a few more Caramac bits have been salvaged from the deceased Andy_CMS 760 to complete the interior fettling, including the remaining carpet inserts for the doors. These turned out to be utterly mockitt so a bit if Vulgalouring was necessary;

Bit faded but they've come up really well. Hoping a dry day this weekend will see them fitted. Still planning on an oil change before winter as well...

I was sitting in Traffic this morning behind a Micra Badged "Micra 160SR". I thought blimey a 160bhp Micra that must be lively I wonder if it's fitted with a version of 2.0 SR20DE engine from the Primera.

I'd never heard of it and a 160bhp Micra with no reall sporty bits on it sounded like a mega sleeper so got to work and googled it only to find it's actually fitted with a 109bhp 1.6 engine.

The 160 represents the 1.6 engine. What a piss poor effort.

109bhp Ina shopping cart isn't to be sniffed at though. Mi d you with a bit of fettling I suppose the primera lump would fit.

I don't doubt it but putting a 160 badge on it is wank.

Only thing I can think of that would fit that bill is a Citroen Bijou.  There's definite overtones of DS in the rear, not so much in the front.

EDIT: Unsurprisingly, Wobbler beat me to it on that suggestion!

That looks like it well done chaps mind now at rest. Its a car I have never seen before.

Spent couple of hours wrestling the rear bumper off the 405.

HBOL says 6 bolts and it pops off. Well yes in theory, if bolts aren't covered with 248000 miles worth of crap. Took about 90minutes to get it off.

Peugeot in their wisdom put foam in one of the cavities of the bumper which has just absorbed water and disintegrated. Lovely.

I thought I might try to fit reversing sensors whilst I had bumper off. But the reversing lights are in the rear boot door and the cable runs under the headlining, so didn't bother.

The accident had done less damage. Rather than having any absorbing foam or similar in the bumper, Peugeot had just bolted it on so that the bumper could move about a cm before the fixings gave way. So damage was much less than I thought as the bumper just had to be reset rather than replacing the brackets.

Oh and looks like water pump is leaking. Brilliant ..

Yea to be fair sticking 160 on it can be misleading. 0-60 is better than our vectra though. Mg zr160 actually as 160 bhp or near as damn it.

Those Micras are supposedly a fun little steer to drive. Bit like those Suzuki Swift Sports, not much power but great in the corners.

Posted

Wtf , have I come on the wrong forum. Micra and Suzuki swift are sweet drives. I hope your talking about pre 1994

Posted

We're talking about this. It may drive well but putting a 160 badge on the back of a car that hasn't got that is like sticking a courgette down your pants.

It looks good until you have to do something about it then everyone's disappointed.
