The Coupe isn't as hanging as I might let on, I guess that's me being rather dramatic. It's just rather tiring buying a car with same faults as the others came with, blowing exhausts, faulty, often drivers-side windows, a filthy, worn interior, basically, a heavily abused car, this is the worst example of a Coupe I have ever seen. Amazingly most other stuff still actually works but it's just the cosmetics in and out that let it down.

Realistically, this can be restored with minor effort but a little elbow grease and some knowledge, but I'm right in the middle if a lot of things now, it's just one of those cars that will have to be put to aside until I can afford the time, budget and know realistically whats needed. The sills are pretty solid compared to pretty much most 800 Coupes.

VeryTallBrad recently restored a Coupe that was pretty worn looking and got it looking like new. Hopefully he may be able to help me here as he has a particular passion for Coupes.

I think the best thing to do is to keep it squirrelled away until it can receive a minor restoration, especially as prices on these are going up, besides, if I am to be kicked back to France, I'll at least have a car back in England I can tax and jump into seeing as it now has 12 month Insurance and MOT from now. Yes it is rather boring and not very presentable right now but I'll find and enjoy another car later, I'll just have to wait.

As an actual Rover 800 fan who has no truck with the H8ERS, I think Pete-M has a good point. Bog yourself down with too many projects and the danger is you're just going to get disillusioned with it all and end up scrapping the lot and buying a Kia on finance or something...

Just been to see the Audi Sadly it's passed on! This Audi is no more! He has ceased to be! 'E's expired and gone to meet 'is maker! 'E's a stiff! Bereft of life, 'e rests in peace! If you hadn't nailed 'im to the forecourt 'e'd be pushing up the daisies! 'Is mechanical processes are now 'istory! 'E's off the road! 'E's kicked the rust-bucket, 'e's literally shuffled off 'is coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisible!! THIS IS AN EX-AUDI!!

IVC did identify that it was an earth of the coil that was borked originally. However someone at either KD Bros or Volksworks have had a bit of a sniff in the fusebox and not put the lid back on and the electrics are now borked as it got full of water. Friggin GR-1,000,0000. WNKRS.

So need to make a plan to get it shifted.

I am officially a 'SAD OLD GIT' as I have today received permission to put private plates on my car. First bit of spannering I've done in months and months and... four screws undone/done up and I feel like a mechanical hero!

BMW being delivered via Shiply today. WCPGW?

Cross your fingers for me.

Supposed to be picked up at lunchtime, still not picked up. The Garage who are receiving it on my behalf will be long closed for the day when it gets there

So, these turned up. They're about as expected - although the lug holes have corroded steel inserts, which is going to be 'interesting' to sort out. There's four of them, I just haven't unpacked the other two because of space. Enkei-branded valve caps are a nice touch.

Not bad for £61 (before shipping).

What are they off? Don't think I've ever seen those before... and I look at wheels a lot, bit of a nerd to be honest. Never know what make they are, just like pretty shapes!  :)

I think they were an aftermarket Enkei design (D202) for RWD Mazdas and Daihatsus. They're the only cars that use a weird 4 x 110 PCD.

BMW now departed from Kent. But as the Devon garage lads go home in 20 minutes, that's not much use. I've had to make arrangements for the car to arrive there first thing tomorrow.

Grrrr

I realised this morning that the MOT is due on the van, and after a spot of phoning around could only find places that could fit it in next week. That was looking worrying, as we need it for towing duties on Monday but fortunately I found one place who could squeeze it in this afternoon. Even that would have been pushing it if it had failed, as if it had needed parts I'd have run out of time seeing as I'm away this weekend.

Fortunately it went straight through, with only a couple of advisories on front wheel bearing play. It's been nearly 50k miles since I stripped and greased them, so might be time to do that again. But happy/relieved at the pass.

Princess Mission #3 completed and nobody died.  It did absolutely piss it down when we were about to move the biggest part but other than that it was pretty plain sailing.  The Cleland brothers come with the Vulgalour stamp of approval, not only are they massively competent and generous, but they're reasonably easy on the eye, more than can be said for most removal people that you have to pay with cash money.

Just taxed the car online (£10!) and suddenly realised that it's probably not insured on its new number... but it went through. Checked and it'snot showing as insured, so how the hell did it go through the dvla checks?

Posted

New rules innit. You have to tax a vehicle as soon as you get it. If you had just bought it and insured it that day it would not be showing up on MID yet so you would not be able to tax it.

Daft, I know.

Posted

Its simpler than that - they just don't bother checking insurance anymore when you tax your car now.

Don't much like that bloody idea! The only good thing about road tax was it checked the car was insured...  Anyway, just checked and it's now on the database - good work by esure.

Really don't like esure though, they were the cheapest when I bought it, but they have rung me twice since to try and upsell all sorts of shite and if you ring them, you have to endure several minutes of recorded bollox and then more sales patter trying again, to sell you crap you don't want. Not using them again.

They don't need to check it any more 'at the point the tax is bought' because it can be checked anywhere at any time by anyone who is interested. Makes sense to me!

Posted

I'm pretty sure they do check it's insured they just do it digitally rather than you needing your insurance certificate. Not long ago I couldn't get my tax disc as the computer to check it was down.

Calm down dear ;)

Thinking about it when its not 5am, I suppose it doesn't really matter. Whoever is checking the car is taxed can assumingly also tell if it is insured can't they? People who have not got one are just as likely to not have either (or an MOT or firearms licence for that matter)

I was thinking about it the other way round that the government were wanting to enable people to pay for their tax as soon as they got the car (as per the new rules) just to fill up their coffers.

S'pose its a bit of both.

Those wheels are top class and about the ONLY thing that could have replaced those fabulous wheel trims.
