Pretty much...bizarrely, clutch doesn't slip........do they have cables, and if so, adjustable?

Posted

Yeah, it'll be cable. Probably similar to a BX in which case the adjustment is pretty much on the clutch fork.

Quite a big step forward in life tomorrow. We (Mrs. Lukas and I) are giving up life in Vienna and moving to a quiet, little town in Styria, full of old people and closed shops. A dying town, everyone living there is telling us.

Somehow I am looking forward to it, despite me not knowing what to work there. But I am looking forward to the possibilities I have there. From a small flat without a private parking space to a huge house with 4 garages. Oh the things I can do there with my old cars. Drive them more often, care for them better, trying to mend them by myself...

A bit sad to leave the old flat behind though as it has become home to me the last 3 years. Mixed feelings.

ah, look at that dust.  If that was a bottle of wine it would be worth megacoin with a dust layer like that.

Looks like it will clean up a treat though.  Lend it to Vulgalour for the weekend and it will be like new!

Proper "barn find" patina right there...........I should scrape it off and put a bag of it on ebay...........just under the ad for genuine Lucas electrical smoke.............

Sounds idyllic Lukas. Much the same as our life. Village school under threat of closure and we're not helping as we're too selfish to have kids...

I have friends in the village of all ages from children to 80+ year old. It's ace.

I too live in a small village of about 900 inhabitants - its brilliant! Much better than city life. Had lived in the old house for twelve years and still do not miss it, and have been in the new one for 18 months.

You are Norm and I claim my $5 ;-)

Goddammed Gubbermint.

Get on and buy the Rover! It's worth it. And think of all the nurses' pensions you'll be paying for.

Well....That is still the plan Skiz, however I have now learnt the passanger door has been dented somehow  *Sigh*

Exciting times!

I received my 18 rear arches from France yesterday, quality appears good and seem like they'll be a nice fit.

I just need to fit the lights, grill and a tighten a couple of bolts and then I'll be able to drive the MK1 for the first time ever to my girlfriend's to paint it. Wonder what the neighbour will say about this.

With the Cortina's impending completion this means I can crack on with sorting the 18, as the polo is running just fine.

Also agreed to rent a small but secure yard with FOAD and Nisfan about 20 mins from my house, it's not ideal but it'll do.

It´s a town with 12.500 people living there. So by austrian standards, it is a city, but after 4 years in Vienna, it does not feel like one. That´s how it looks:

I wonder how life will be there. A lot different than in Vienna I guess. I grew up in a small village with 1800 people living there, so I am used to small villages. Can´t wait to find out.

There will be country bumpkins with one eye in the middle of their foreheads and they will perform unspeakable sexual acts on you before they ritually kill you

and ceremoniously spit roast you in front of a beer tent.

Or kidnap you and lock you in the basement.....

It´s the Obersteiermark, Junkman, not rural USA.

^^ Which is more likely in Austria...

Any seawater damage?

...I'm thinking that container ship that went down off Cornwall a couple of years ago, that was full of BMW motorbikes and engines amongst other things.

Rover has been welded. Well chuffed with the job. Invisible patch FTW. I've now ruined it my slapping zinc primer all over it and some other spots. I'd better get some paint. Pics to follow in the Rover thread later. Probably.

That engine looks like a v6 so not a BMW. The only twin turbo v6 dizzler that comes to mind is the 2.7 one they put in Jags and Range Rovers.

Joint development with PSA, so see also Peugeots and Citroens. Though not very many of them.

bentley-gt-engine_1770777i.jpgThat engine.

One of those W12 things from an Audi A8 or Bentley I reckon.

Don't Audi make a twin turbo diesel?

. . . . huge house with 4 garages.

I wanted to visit the SE of Austria when I walked through the country but I did roughly Salzburg-Linz-Vienna instead. A bit disappointing as it looks beautiful down there.

Any garden space in that huge new house of yours for a small tent for a day or two if I'm passing through again?  ;)

A lot of garden for a tent or two. Maybe even a guest bed somewhere.

The Somerset now sports flashing indicators and a towbar, in preparation for my trip to Wales this Sunday. I don't generally like retrofitted indicators on old cars but I think these ones look quite good, they are small chrome ones sold for custom motorbikes. Rather than drilling holes through the bodywork I bolted the front ones to the bumper irons and drilled two small holes in the rear valance for the rear ones, so it can be returned to original quite easily.

Just need to give the inside of the trailer tent a damn good clean as a year outside has caused it to go quite mouldy!

I have no idea where it'll happen, but I look forward to meeting you and the Ozztin at some point soon! My local friend with the Austin 3-Litre is hoping to get to the Brecon show. I'm tempted to jump aboard with him, but the weather forecast is pretty dismal, and I'm out late playing a gig on the Saturday night. Hmmm.

Came close to bidding on a cavalier v6 tonight on e bay. It had t&t and was hovering around £300. Showing uncharacteristic restraint I ducked out of it as a few people seemed to be fighting over it in the last few minutes, the price went north and I backed away from the mouse.

Glad I didn't basically, a new toy would distract me from the gt6 and the range rover which needs a couple of weekends work before its second pop at an MOT in a couple of weeks.

I've suprised myself and the missus has no clue how close to the brink I came, thankfully for my sake!
