Took the Capri out for the first time since Classic Ford (came straight home and parked it up), went and saw a very cool guy about engines and the like, opened the bonnet and some cunt at the Pod's nicked my headlight covers.

THEY COST A FIVER, WHY BOTHER?

Because Santa Pod. Thats why.

Heard some right horror stories about the pod - carbs, superchargers etc disappearing from vehicles.

Another CRAZY plan has been hatched to attempt to get BOTH Princesses ready for an MoT at the same garage at as close to the same time as we can after the success of today.  Said garage is gonna fuppin love us when we turn up.

OMG NOT ALL OLDCARZ IS DETHTRAPS.

The Mk1 Clios were tough wee cars, probably the best thing of that size to have a crash in back in the early 90s. My mate rolled one into a ball falling off an icy road years ago and despite going headlamp over mudflap a few times, the bit the people sit in stayed quite intact.

Gumtree's awash with them for about half that money.

Dammit man, do not tell me these things.

I'm not sure if it's coincidence that the 4 of the 5 cars that currently top my want list (406 Coupe, MG ZT, RX-8, Saab 9-3 HOT and LS400) all have a very high change of self immolation

Just found a picture of the 827 I've bought, I knew I took a photo some years ago:

I remember the alloys and some of the bodywork having been badly rattle canned.

I'm planning on taking my Cortina there on Sunday to display as long as I've done the front suspension in time, I've never taken a car there before so I hope no one nicks anything of it.

I'm guessing that you can just turn up and display your car on the day?.

In other news someone's made a blog entry about my Civics for sale ad.

See for yourself.....And remember these things 10 years ago were trumpeted by the muttering press as Porsche Boxster competitors.

Spent the last two nights lying on my back under my sister's land cruiser. Garage had replaced brake discs, calipers etc for £hundreds before failing it on welding. They don't do welding, a fact they neglected to mention before fixing all the brakes.

Sister and BiL are the type who get garages to do all car jobs and are resigned to big bills but this old bus is going to start costing a fortune it keep on the road doing it that way. They like 7 seats and 4wd and have a newer land cruiser as well as this one.

Scary how much normal* people spend on garage bills every year.

Just make sure you leave it locked with the bonnet shut and anything removeable secured and you shoudl be ok.

Don't know why but the place just seems to attract problems, some of the stories I've heard from traders really put you off going. Its also the only show where I had to threaten some lad with actual violence if he didn't fuck off right now.

^ it's not just the pod, I heard of things getting taken from cars at fordfair as well, I never leave my bonnet open and anything that's easy to steal gets put out of sight so sticky fingers aren't tempted

Yep, lesson learnt - bonnet's staying shut in future unless i'm within 3 feet of it. Also lost one of the little nuts that holds the top of my K&N down; somewhat annoying.

How long has the seller owned it?

I think I 'almost' (it was snatched by someone else before I had a chance to contact the seller) bought it about two or so years ago.

Anyone want a pineapple polo saloon...

I'd *love* a Pinapple Saloon!  I knew one would become available when I couldn't have it.

I think I saw it for sale then about that time when I took the pictures. I have more pictures but I dont have access to them at the moment. When I saw it, it was stood outside some traffy old run-down car mechanics business in Cradley Heath, I came across it by chance whilst on my way to Halesowen in the Micra. I seem to recall it being up for £750 or thereabouts. Definitely wasn't worth that kind of the money then. The alloys were badly rattle canned, the drivers window didn't (and still doesn't) work as I recall it was held up or wedged in with a piece of wood and the Black plastic trim at the bottom of the doors was badly screwed in. All stuff that can easily be remedied.

Was the one you were looking at on eBay at any point? Because I think this car was not long after I saw it and I think I recall it not being as honest in the description.

So, I took the 2CV's other rear wing off and had a prod about.

10470604_10152564242703200_1847618686153

DOH!

So, new inner wing and rear sweep needed. At least panels are available. Might well need a C-post repair section too, so about £200 of panels before we even get started. Ugh! I know fitting the new rear sweep (below that side windows, right down to below the light panel) will be a nasty job, as the light panel is rotten too. I should have left this until I knew where I was with the Sirion. Bother.

And a real bitch to weld too. The metal on those things are so thin I spent ages on a certain "bumble bee" welding new sections into the replacement shell. A job I have no wish to repeat in a hurry. Did all the bolts come out from the rear wing? You lucky sod! Mine got replaced with pop rivets.

Posted

The bolts are no problem. I got some stainless ones after the previous resto. Some said they'd cause an electrolytic reaction but it's hard to sell whether it has or not. The bolts came out and the rot isn't focussed near the bolt holes.

Problem is, I'm probably about to blow what tiny budget I have on getting the Sirion MOTd, so there's nowt in the kitty for 2CV welding at the moment. May have to find a bodge solution for the time being. (ie just put something over the holes to stop water getting in!). OMG RATLUK!

I was feeling bored/brave today so I took the nearside sill cover off the Disco.  I then removed most of the sill without using any tools.

Should give me something to do next week :)

To be fair to DW he did make me aware of this before I bought it,  it needs a square foot or so of new metal in both the front and rear n/s inner arches as well then should be MOTable (so long as the gearbox is back in by then).

After the fitment of some halfway decent tyres, a '79 Ford Capri was seen leaving a junction in a controlled manner earlier today. A witness at the scene said 'it was terrible, i'd just started humming the theme tune to The Professionals when I heard the Essex V6 getting a liberal amount of welly. I couldn't believe it when the car just accelerated up the road with no tyre smoke or even the smallest dab of oppo'. I guess a lot changes in 34 years, my wife's testament to that'. The driver was unavailable for comment but did extend his deepest condolences to anyone else who will be met with crushing disappointment over the course of the Toyo CF1's lifetime.

Perhaps I should have kept the Disco and sold the 2CV. I think the Disco will be an easier repair! Mind you, you can get Zintec inner rear wings for the 2CV now, so hopefully the new ones will last a bit longer.

I used to be good friends with the organisers of some old VW shows at the pod and you get to hear a few stories.... they try their best but you tend to get either groups coming to the shows with the intention of stealing, or you get more local youths who know the paths and trails and will get in and try to leave with stuff - or cars.

A few years back they caught a guy trying to take a split screen pickup from the fuppin' show and shine, whilst it was being judged. Security removed him from site into the hands of the police. Three hours later he was spotted again. Unofficial security removed him from site and suggested the hospital might want to take a look at his poorly knuckles.

Last year at Bug Jam we were camped across from a load of spotty cretins who were only there to drink beyond their ability to drink, play shit music and rev their fiesta to death. Came to a head on the second night when they ransacked a camper next to them, and then started throwing pots and pans around hitting a few show cars. Found to have one ticket between them, they were escorted from site - and promptly tried to drive home, at which point the police met them at the end of airfield lane and nicked the driver. The car was still there when we left at the end of the day.

Posted

I know a couple of traders who will only sleep inside their stands surrounded by stock at BugJam as it's the only way to stop it getting nicked. It's been said that the show these days is more about drink n drugs n petty crime than VWs sadly.

In other news -R4 is fixed! Mixture screw dropped out of the carb and it's been hard work finding a replacement but that's now sorted and it'd back up and running! Trouble is the MOT has expired now so that's next job. Oh and it'd probably do with four tyres as the existing ones are cracking quite badly and are suffering extreme old age...
