I'm still in the double white or double silver pinstripe camp on this one, it looks right on the car and without the stripe it looks more like it's had a respray (which obviously it has) than that it's a nice original unmolested example.

Norfolk, i think that looks wrong because its too stark a colour contrast and too thick a coach line, and on the front wing/door it was applied too high, it should have ended about the same height above the front indicator as at the rear IMHO, in another colour a thinner more discreet line would look fine on the back door and i like the way it highlights the rear wing curve.

Over 600 miles covered in the Jag X300 since Thursday. I can confirm that it is both shit but somehow still marvellous. Hideous seats, ride and handling compromised by wear and neglect, but a truly superb automatic gearbox, enjoyable performance and it's a Jag, so looks ace.

Its some simple striping, not some flames etc. It looks good both ways. I guarantee that no matter what you choose, in 2 weeks time when you are used to the car and not staring at every detail of it you will not even have an opinion on the matter.

Very true! I've ordered a silver stripe now and will do the other side to see what I think.

I still think you should have went with ghost flames and venoms.

Yeah but right like he needs some sick neons and whatever to make that work.  Like.  Yanno.  Bruv.

Yay, go silver! Told ya!

I'm with Mr Bennett - I think it's about half an inch to an inch too high at the front, which means it's too far clear of the front wheel arch and too close to the front door handle. Doesn't sound much but I reckon that's enough to throw your eye off.

Now I've said that, it'll probably look gash in silver and I'll feel stupid.

I see your point but that's where the original one ran from.

Oh!

Well, at least I was right about feeling stupid...

Just taken the Audi for its MOT. Well I say that but what i actually mean is that i got it to the test station but its not getting its MOT. Starred running rough about 200m away and now wont start. RAC en route. attachicon.gif1398671955419.jpg

Well this has turned into a right fucking mess. RAC came out and could not figure out WTF was wrong with it. They then said they would recover it but noticed it wasn't taxed (it was outside a MOT test station, I can't tax it with no MOT) so said they were not insured to move it. GR0.1

So it was dragged round the corner to another garage to get it off the street  in the hope that they could simply repair it and it will all be sorted ableit at a cost but its better than getting bummed by the DVLA and Traffic Wardens etc. However they have now rung up and said they also cannot figure out whats wrong with it and have charged me £85. GR-1.

So now I have a car that does not work, that the RAC will not move, 15 miles from home. GR-10. This is before its been in for its MOT so there is anything thats fucked there to include in that, plus car tax when its done. GR-£300.

Am half tempted to chuck it and get something else. But I do really like it. But it is thirsty, slow and a million other things. I am broke though too. Bumhats.

Now that's a pisser. That's a bit miserable of the RAC I'd strike them off your christmas card list. Also great diagnostics work by the garage, these things aren't that complex are they?

The straight white above probably works the best, but if you've got a couple of minutes any chance of applying a curved white, but about three inches lower than the Norfolk pic?

It needs to be a thin double with the finer of the two stripes to the bottom.

Have organised for it to be picked up tomorrow and taken to a better garage down the road to look at. When i said what garage it was at the guy i have got to pick it up actually LOL'D.

Hell, its only money isn't it?

Xsara brakes are a bit spongy so i decided to bleed them today. First bleed nipple sheared off. Bugger.

First time i have ever had that happen. Whilst I was there i noticed rear pads are almost non existent and discs are scraggy so i might as well do a full overhaul.

Other issue currently is the the auto box needs fluid changing. Looking online it looks mega complicated as you have to get it to a correct temp and then test it all. Might farm that job out.

Have them take the tow bar off, that thing sticking out the back spoils a nice clean shape.

I can't believe the RAC welshing on the recovery like that, disgraceful. Anyway, good luck with the fix.

After the Amazon shat itself yesterday I'm now going to play diagnostic bingo to try and accurately* guess what's wrong with it.

It decided to misbehave on the A55, running on like a motha and backfiring comically with Conrad at the wheel. After a collective chinwag we reckon the condensor and \ or rotor has burned out or split.

It still idles (like crap) and will run at low speed, and it was late when we got back, so I just shoved it back in the garage and did one home.

Any want to PLACE BETS, NAO?

Exactly, start from the front and move back. I had an old 1987 Golf GTi that was running bad once, few garages checked it and kept saying fuel pump which it was not, eventually took it to a decent Bosch Service Garage and hey presto it was diagnosed within a couple of hours and sorted soon after.

I wonder what the £85 invoice description will say? Checked for faults on Audi, couldnt find one cos we only spent half hour p!ssin about with it, cant be arsed nor bothered, Ka ching!!

Make sure you ask for a VAT receipt and pay by card the lazy feckers will only pocket that 85 sovs for doing nothing and have a few beers with it at HillmanImps expense.

Can you not just refuse to pay? It's not as if they can hold your car to ransom, is it?

They will probably feel they can but will leave that debacle to Mr HillmanImp

Just picked this up from Holbeck

Drives fine despite the high mileage and brake caliper needing attention. Likely just an interim car but should hopefully provide a few months of fun

I know it does, I did consider removing it once but then I keep talking about buying a boat (but never do). I might get on that when I get it back.

Nice idea but they have probably looked at it, I just don't think they knew what to do with it. They have fitted a new crank sensor (15 minutes work, tops?) so will make sure I have 2 crank sensors when I leave as the other one was obviously okay if its still fooked. Its only £85 which whilst is more than I can afford for nowt, I would spend more that my times worth arguing over it that what I would get back.

That is a very good point. I like your thinking.

Fancied a change but also want this on the road, so hauled it out of the garage and did some filler work on the wings.

Did I mention I hate applying bodyfiller?

Really have the horn for an early R5 and I've got all creamed up over this little honey. It's really close to the tunnel and sounds mechanically sorted. I first saw it about 2 months ago, but now it's affordable and I'd pay the asking price if it's in sensible nick. Annoyingly though the seller has ignored my two email messages... bugger! They are written in finest google translate as I don't speak the lingo but I kept it simple and followed up in English (The Spitfire in one of the pics suggests a Brit connection anyway). Might crack email number 3 out tomorrow and repeat until they submit.
