I've temporarily swapped the BX for this.

First time I've had a chance to drive a modern Jaguar (by my standards!). I really like it. It's like the Merc, but quicker, tighter in the bends and less wobbly too. I'm liking 22mpg rather less. A bit of a shock after leaping out of something that does more than twice that. It's for work purposes, as I'm heading to the Jaguar London to Brighton run this weekend.

Those Jags are such brilliant value it's almost criminal. The straight sixes are pretty tough as well.

Posted

Aye, you're probably better off with the AJ6 than with an early V8.  Shame all the 6-pot cars got the XJ40 dash though - I liked the later interior much better.

It is somewhat lacking in prestige feel in dashboard terms, though I still like it. I'm rather concerned. I'm borrowing this car, but I've a nasty feeling I might want one to keep (for a matter of months as is always the way!). It just doesn't feel barge-like.

The run is on Sunday. Apparently, there's also an anti-far-right protest on the same day. Should be interesting!

Will there be any SS jags by any chance? :-)

I am due to become the lucky* owner of an MOT-less R-reg MGF 1.8 MPi tomorrow afternoon.  Epic collection thread not forthcoming as it's 8 miles from my house and will be taken straight to my friendly mechanic for an MOT assuming nothing hideous presents itself.  If it's too far gone to bother with then it will break for what I paid but if it turns out to be a good one then it'll probably be up for sale with MOT and tax as soon as possible.  Summer's coming people - queue here!

I'm glad this Jaguar isn't mine. I washed it today and during the course of that, found nasty lacquer lift and some rather worrying bubbling around the rear window and arches. Sills still seem ok, but then I found serious Cornflakes in the bulkhead area...

The former can be cured by pressing the ignore button. The latter is more serious. Does Mr. W know?

Yes. I'll be seeing him on Sunday so he can have a gander himself. It's not doing too badly for a car that's been used as a pool car for several years to be fair.

The Visa was sounding a little raspy this morning so I thought I must look at the exhaust at lunch (I was already about 15min late for work already). On the ring road just outside work it got a lot raspier and made a noise like a metal exhaust being dragged along a road. So I quickly stopped, unhooked the back box and chucked it in the boot and carried on the extra 400m to work.

Whilst on the phone to Scottish Widows with a call that was very important to them, even though it was in yet another of their unusually busy periods, where they are receiving more calls than usual, which had resulted in a longer waiting time, I decided to order another exhaust from ebay. Only £30 delivered. Result.

The exhaust will take a few days to deliver so I decided to book the Audi in for a test on Monday so I will have a car in the meantime (whilst still on hold using the phone on the desk next to me).

Having given up all hope of speaking to anyone at Scottish Widows, I just went outside to look at how much of the backbox is left and it seems that it is all of it. The exhaust had just fallen off where I obviously had not done it up properly replacing the centre section 6 months ago.  I was rushing so much at the side of the road I did not even think to look, I just assumed it was totally borked as it was not in the best condition before.

Oh well.  Will keep the Audi booked in as may as well use this momentum to get it sorted and back on the road as I have been very slack. Will chuck the old back box on for the next few days and may as well fit the new one when it arrives.

Fitted new wheels n trimz today. Makes the car look better

Also took the opportunity to take brakes apart and copper grease them as the were squealing like a banshee. Following advice on here i also red rubber greased the sliders to avoid them sticking.

Really pleased with myself until they have started squeaking again. Bugger

Now, just to be certain, you did remember to do up the wheel nuts I hope.  ;)

Went on traditional St George's day outing yesterday.

Starts with a couple of pints about 9.30am followed by a good fry up and off round a few pubs. Finally called it a day about 7.30pm and called the wench to pick us up....on arrival home promptly fell asleep in chair. Happier end than some years as I managed to avoid criticising her driving on the way home thereby avoiding a row.

No bars are visited

checked and triple checked :) i think i am now going to be OCD about it!

The Sirion is angry. It must think the Jag/BX exchange is a permanent one. It seized its front caliper again. I wondered why I was having to accelerate downhill...

Guess I'll be pulling that caliper apart again. I think I may have used the wrong grease on the sliders. Either that or the piston is sticking, which is very possible.

Volvo in for its MOT tomorrow. Nothing* can go wrong.

NOVA declaration completed. Now to get this Datsun MOT'd so I can register it. Glad I bought a new welder... I'm gonna be needing it.

I bought a house. It has a big shed.

Enough about your BX. Is there room for more cars? :P

OI! (you're not wrong though ;P). Space for the money pit and the Hurricane out front once I've had a dropped kerb put in and had low wall/fence removed from what is currently a very boring front garden, which is handily already all gravel.

I think my brother is actually cursed.  Clutch cable let go on the Xantia today, tomorrow I will help him diagnose/fix this, hopefully it is only the clutch cable.

Posted

Hmm. Do Xantias have the same fromage pedal box issues as BXs I wonder? Hope it is just a cable!

Posted

Luckily, if it is a fromage pedal box we have two welding machines we could use to repair it.  Seems more likely that the clip on the end of the clutch cable has pinged off somewhere, never to be seen again.

Vulg. I bet its the plastic clip on the pedal that's broken . Real swine to replace too.

Posted

That's exactly what's happened.  Ã‚£10 to replace but I suspect we'll run out of expletives during the replacement process and have to invent a few more due to the unique way Citroen design their cars.
