I'm 50/50 about the spots, only because i think it's a sweet looking van without them, that said they don't doing any thing to make it look any worse though, I wonder what they'd look like painted yellow?.

I agree the Cortina looks ace. Very jealous.

Question is now that you have done it up and its looking nice how long before you go mental and sell it to buy something half as good for the same money?

We all know it's going to happen.  ;-)

Good question! I want to keep it a few years yet or else I'll be getting a ear bashing from the wife and my old man! Maybe i could save up for another toy again once the Civic gone, I know of a stunning Mitsubishi Sapporo GSL coming up for sale soon...

Anyway back to Cortina news and firstly an apology for photowhoring but I'm like a kid with a new toy at the moment! Today I firstly went to a tyre centre and got my Pirellis fitted which was good value at £30 for 5, I had to let some air out of them though as they put 32psi in and it felt awful, I've dropped it down to 28psi now and it seems much nicer.

Me and the old man tackled fitting the chrome arches and having to drill new holes in the front wings for the pop rivets, luckily that went ok without any slippages!. Popped the wing badges on and i went for a cruise, what a fanny magnet! I shit you not, the amount of strangers that kept flashing me, waving and giving me the thumbs up was unreal! I felt like i was in a million pound supercar!. I swear you couldn't drive this car for 1/2 hour and get back out being a virgin, I wish i had one when i was younger now!

I still have the interior to fit during the week but this is how it stands at the moment.

I do need some advice about the pin stripe though, It originally had twin white ones but I can't decide what to refit, my old man thinks black would look better but I'm not sure, I'm swaying towards white again?.

I'd vote for another white double-stripe. Very of the time, and it suited it.

Speaking of attention, it's an absolute fact that the Sirion gets the most interest of any car I've ever owned. From people who work in petrol stations. "What is it?!"

Phwoar, that really is bloody lovely Trigger.

Could you photoshop the pin stripes on so in both colours we could all, including yourself, get a better idea of what the finished article would be like.

I've had a little play with MS Paint, It not ideal but you get the idea.

I still can't decide?!

I think I'll go with Dollys suggestion and double whites although silver doesn't look to revolting.

SWMBO, the boss that is, and me both reckon the black looks better, but maybe try a thin single stripe.

I like the white best with that blue and if that's what it originally had it makes sense to go with it given how much effort you've put in to keeping the rest of the car looking original as possible.  I get the feeling that as fantastic as the photos make the Cortina look, they still don't do the recent work justice, one of those cars you have to see in person to truly fully appreciate.

I'd leave the pin strip off.

I reckon the side profile of the car with those lovely rear haunches is more than strong enough to do without stripes.

See, this was the original plan but when you see it in the flesh the sides look a little slabsided and plain, most people agree that it needs something to break it up a bit, I guess if i do pin it I could always remove it if i change my mind, It's not like it's permanent.

I've tried it with gold but I'm not feeling it.

Hmm, you're right. I was hoping it would be a bit more subtle but it ends up a bit 70's custom. I'll change my opinion to White as I too think the flanks need a bit of breaking up.

I'd add flames and stick on chrome like you get on pt cruisers then fit some 17" venoms .

Not really, it looks really great . The lower coach line that goes along the lower swage line of the doors as you get on mk4 and 5s might be better. The higher stripe is hard to make look right on mk3s because of the coke bottle step up at the back door

Ive had a productive afternoon with my mate fitting a weber carb to the SJ Jago :) It now runs and goes like a Champ! Turns out my suspected head gasket failure was actually the old Aisin carb being a twat. GOOD TIMES!

* I did actually do a bit more diagnosis than just bolting on a new carb to fix a suspected head gasket!!*

This is how it looked before the paintjob.

I like the white stripe. You should reinstate it :)

The Cortina is looking fabulous Trig, the work done has really made a difference. I'd go with the white stripe as well as it really does set it off a treat.

White stripes but with fido dido at one end pulling the stripe. 😉

Seriously though, that looks awesome!

This always makes me chuckle, because it makes no sense. OK, so you were probably maxed out in the 2CV, but it's happened to me in every car I've owned.

For example, if I overtook someone similar at 75 in the Xantia, they'd be compelled to blat past me at 90. Well, the Xantia could go over a ton, so what exactly are they proving? If they hung back, then floored it and came past me at 130 or more, then I could understand the point they were making, i.e. that they could go far quicker than me (they'd still be a twat, but at least there's some logic there). But overtaking 'on principle' is just hilarious.

I'd had the pedal nailed to the floor for a good half mile - it doesn't so much accelerate at that end, just gain speed. The drivers who are really annoying though are the ones pootling along at 60/65 who accelerate away as soon as they see you coming past their field of vision.

I think it offends their sense of manhood.

Without doubt, that is one of the most annoying things about owning a 2CV. The other is people pulling out in front of you because they can't imagine that you're travelling at more than 30mph.

Silver estates are for winners. Not that I've got one or owt.

Wentworths are a nice spec, though that looks like it's had a few upgrades; the seats appear to be from a mid-90s model.

That 2CV thing also applies to vans. Anyone who's spent a lot of time travelling up/down the A5/A483 by Oswestry will know this. Basically you overtake a slow moving car doing about 45mph, then you come to a roundabout, can't accelerate at warp speed because you're ina  loaded van so car overtakes you then does 45mph again. You overtake them again and this process is repeated until you drive in the middle of the road to stop them, they get the work's number of your van, phone your boss and you get shouted at.

Obviously you have to completely deny that you were making several one and two fingered 'suggestions' and shook your fist at them several times.

The 'Tina looks glorious Trig. Personally, I'd refrain from any pinstripes as I don't like them on cars with this lovely coke-bottle shape but I guess they are of the period.

Posted

I was expecting the pinstripe to follow the line of the rear wing.

Shows how much I know.

White please.

I iz in your reer view with my high beamz on.

After going on about how shit these are I just bought one, oops. Last minute purchase on ebay, I got it at the right price (I think). Down side is it's a 520i, which is the 5th 520i I've owned.
