Well the Toyota failed its MOT on... drumroll please... a binding offside rear brake.  You couldn't make it up...

The tester said the brake was fluctuating quite badly too so replacement drum required methinks - a new drum is 25 quid so not the end of the world.  Guess it means I'll be doing brakes again next weekend though!

After just shy of 6 years on the fleet, it's finally time to let the Focus go.

IMG_20250117_0218553.jpg.552f5ee5f2356d07377bbdc60b7edc88.jpg

I have been contemplating selling it for ages as it was surplus to requirements, but after having advertised with a fresh MOT and having no takers (co-incidentally a member off here expressed an interest literally the day after I started to use it again 😅) I decided to reinsure it and get some more use out of it while it was here.

It has swallowed another 1000 or so miles since it passed its last MOT without a single advisory having been laid up for 6 months or so

Unfortunately, a neighbour had a car accident last week and his car has been written off. In desperate need of cheap wheels, he asked me if I was thinking of letting any of my cars go. So, it seems like the perfect opportunity to let it go to a decent home.

I was incredibly reluctant to sell it dirt cheap to someone who's just going to wreck it, so I figured I would keep it kicking around until someone I knew needed something to get them out of trouble, it seems that time has finally come.

This has probably been one of the best cars I've had, it's the longest serving one, and it's been superbly reliable. Whether I keep the space and funds clear, or fill the space with something else remains to be seen 😅

The Swedish Petrol Glutton (Volvo V90) had a long-overdue wash today, and I think I did well considering I don't have access to a hose or anything:IMG_00531.JPG.5b009429501b625a35eba80edf591053.JPGIMG_00521.JPG.077bb1c70cdd58a2f2d4ed8bd3248ae4.JPGOnIMG_00561.JPG.a94fbae5e2abf3419aec30b6ebc25685.JPG

The moment I'd finished buffing the wax, it started raining. "Oh well," I thought to myself "at least I can see if I've missed any spots when applying the wax."IMG_00581.JPG.5ab1de7ec56306afeee12a26bbe7e99a.JPG

Luckily, I'd only missed 50% of the fucking roof.

Rats' cocks.

Going through my box of Cresta bits to try and assemble a decent front grille assembly...

Had one of Mrs JJ’s friends ask if I’d look at her 4motion Tiguan as she’s got a few issues with it.

TPMS light won’t go out after pumping tyres up

TC light comes on when driving

Shakes violently when braking after driving for a while

First issue was TPMS, she assumed the light would go out when the tyres had air put in them. Checked the pressures, OSF had 49 PSI 😂 NSR had 31. Set them to the correct 35 PSI all round and reset light. Fixed.

TC light, plugged it in and got codes for NSR wheel speed sensor, replacement sensor ordered, really easy to change - don’t even need to take the wheel off. Whipped the old one out to get the part number as there is more than one listed.

Shaking - jacked the car up, NSF wheel - I’ll let the video speak for itself, I was putting a lot of effort into moving that. I’ll check the sliders and clean them up at the weekend but will probably just stick a caliper on as it’s got its MOT next month and it’s just easier.

The disc will be warped and fucked too , if that's been driven any distance

At the very least the pads are likely heavily worn.

I was very surprised that when I drove it from cold, it doesn’t shake at all so the disk may have somehow survived but I agree, I’d be shocked if I don’t end up having to stick pads in for her.

It comes down to how you really feel about the car. Yes, the shock has left a bitter taste, but then it could be seen as a running resto. That's how I'm treating both my Jag and Vectra. They are running working cars, but they are also both rusty, particularly the Vectra. But I'm working through the lists to get them mechanically as best as I can/I can afford. I love them both and would hope they'd both be with me for a long while yet.

What a beautiful day today! I set my 18 year old the task of taking the drivers side sill covers off the new to me XF. Crikey, it's not much better than the S type I took off the road last month.

So, severe corrosion to sills, suspension's shot (front control arms wobbly), exhaust leak from near turbo (whistling), rusty rear subframe and needs subframe bushes, all alloys welded, problem with boot loom, 155k with no recent service history. That offer of £900 from WBAC not looking too bad, if they a) agree to take it and b) don't knock it down, but I'm not exactly in a good negotiating position. You've got to laugh otherwise you'd cry. How to lose £1k in a week.

Holiday update:

- I have reconfigured my spine with the wooden coasters at the pleasure beach

- eaten the best fish and chips I've had in years

- in fact eaten rather a lot of takeaway, unsurprisingly

- the sun has very much been out so I'm getting a fantastic tan

Just been offered a oxford green 1.9 Z3 with red  leather interior, MOT’d until May 26, 125k, for £400

Needs a temp sensor as shoots to red even with just ignition on, and he thinks it might have an ABS light on too.

Chap from works dad has gone back to a 5 seater and doesn’t want to deal with the general public.

Dont need it, can’t spare the money, not practical with the dogs

Still seriously considering it

Good fun car for that money and triton green on an older BMW always looks good.
Just do it as Nike say

What year is it? Definitely worth the money if the sills aren't rotten.

Get it and roffle it off?

That was on my mind but having just bought the 5 series and then had a £560 vet bill on Monday, it’s really bad timing 😂

A months time I’d be all over it as a project to tinker with. Going to try and see if I can find a way.

I'll have one, happy to pay up front

Ditto

and I’d go for a couple of tickets

I’d like to try and find a way so I can actually keep it for a couple of months before an inevitable roffle, if not I’ll maybe look at a pre purchase roffle as Im getting pics and more info this eve 👍

Facelift then, definitely worth it although it's a very low spec example looking at the VIN. It might be an interesting car for my girlfriend (especially being green) since she likes mine so much. I'd be interested in it if you aren't!

No problem for me.

I’ve just gone through old texts as I actually found the car for the chap in the first place. These pics are from around May 2024 but shows what it is. I’d also told him it said the advert mentions a box of history including original purchase receipt.

He paid £1800 in May last year for it and has apparently spent nearly 2 grand on it at a BMW specialist having an oil leak sorted and a new rad.

Called in to see WBAC today to see if they would buy my XF.

The numberplate fell off just before I arrived, now stuck on with sellotape which I managed to borrow from a petrol station attendant.

I pulled up at the booth and the alarm decided to go off for no reason, which is the first time it has done that (honest!). The WBAC youth was most upset that the front and rear bumpers may have had some paint in it's distance past. He was also not that impressed when it shot black smoke out of the exhaust when revved. I told him it had been remapped but he downgraded it because of that as he was concerned about emissions.

He graded it as 4 out of 6 (which I didn't think was that bad) but this meant their quote reduced from £900 to £250 (less their £50 commission). Some unpleasant words were exchanged when I told him I could scrap it for more and he asked me to prove it, which I declined. I do have an offer in the £300's somewhere.

He was smirking as I left and I couldn't help saying something rude to him as I left him in a cloud of diesel fumes. Wading in the murkier side of car sales isn’t somewhere I enjoy being...

Interesting, someone must have retrofitted these red seats since it originally came with black cloth, also has the later sport steering wheel. Let me know if it's available.

Tbf, a car like that isn't sellable for them if you consider their costs. This is something a salvage yard would bid on, I'd throw it on eBay and hope whoever wins it isn't a time waster.

Thanks, I might do that.
