Heartbreaking news from one of the preservation projects I'm involved with. We've had petty vandalism in a lot of the exhibits before, but now the feral little cunts have stepped up a gear 😡

Even if the parts can even be found nowadays, I highly doubt we can afford to replace all the glass, especially for it just to happen again in the near future 😢

Even replacing with perspex will be difficult and expensive I suspect, as well as looking totally shit.

This is why we can't t have nice things.....

I've decided to tidy the study, I thought I had every Viz annual produced, they were spread around various different bookcases so I thought it best to put them together on one shelf. Other than a new one thats just been relaesed I'm missing 'On The Bone' from 1998, just ordered it from ebay for £3.50, so I'll have the full set again.

Trouble is my eyesights getting so poor for reading I have to hold the books at the end of my bloody nose to read them, I feel a trip to the opticians coming on again.....

Too late, someone else is collecting tomorrow. Hopefully not to break for spares.

Somehow I missed this post!

Lovely.

It was very elegant. The door handles alone are a work of art.

I looked at the blurb and saw the car was supplied by James Young, they used a similar handle with a square button.

There was a car chase with the police in the county here tonight, but it is the car that was involved that I am interested in.

I'm guessing 1980s Mitsubishi Lancer estate? Which is a shame as they are rare.

Bad news, but I think you should still be able to find s/h glass. And I would think Autoglass might dig up a screen.

Changed the gearbox in my shit heap Jetta diesel today.

Diff bearings were worn and there was considerable play on the output flanges.

Replacement was from a diesel golf I'd bought years ago,the box was an unknown quantity,as the engine had gone bang I figured it must have been working at the time, engaged all gears ok,and had no play in the diff.

Gave it a degrease and fitted new seals to the output flanges.

Fitted, did a quick and dirty swap, didn't even look at the (VAG  branded)clutch,as it was working well.

Glad to say it's all ok,and the annoying noise is gone.

Old box,

See where there was movement on the driveshaft flanges.

I may open this up,as aside from the diff wear it was a good gearbox.

Will see.

Get some +1.5 glasses from the pound shop or try a few different strengths to see what works best.

I used them for a few years then went to the opticians. He examined my eyes and told me I need +1.5s. I said I buy them already from the pound shop. He said just continue to do that. What have I just given you £30 for then?

To make sure you didn't need +2.5

Cheers for the info mate - I wish it was so easy for me, I'd save a fortune, but its more complex than that.

I've had specs since I was a nipper and as I get older the prescription becomes more complex, I've a blind spot, astigmatism and need varifocals, some long term drugs I'm having also fucks things up too. The opticians want me to have yearly tests but as it tends to cost over £500 each time I tend to leave it a bit longer, its been a while and I'm going again soon.

Came out this morning and the roof of the car looked like this. What is this, a slug party? IMG_20241031_065630.thumb.jpg.6cb649373d7d5a6e63474543fa803d09.jpg

Except they are a bit narrow for normal slugs, so baby slugs?

Or is it just somebody coming in and doing it with their finger to confuse me, in which case it worked.

Or some sort of atmospheric phenomenon that I'm not familiar with?

I'm sure you give lots of plumbing advice for free.

Is that the shape with the funky back lights with the diagonal reversing (?) lights?

Slug trails are weird. The residue they leave behind is some sort of nanocompound, invisible until the right conditions obtain. I see it on glass when I'm washing it, you see the trail after squeegeeing off the suds, but then it just fades away to nothing.

Don't know, as there are no pictures of it from the back. But now you made me curious and I think it is.

I occasionally forget I’ve left walking boots  / cycling shoes outside to dry and find trails in the morning like that. They are very interesting creatures.
