Just a thought on the mystery puddles, but if you mop out an inch of water from a carpeted footwell then the water level in the actual carpet is probably twice that.  When you bale out the actual puddle the water held in the carpet will seep down to form a shallower puddle.

My friendly mechanic just called.  There's no problem with the oil pump or pressure on the 416 and he said it sounded fine.  I told him to take it for a run and he'll see what I mean by the clatter.  I've asked him to adjust the valve clearances as CBA myself so hopefully that will sort the racket.  If it doesn't then fug knows what's wrong with it.  He'll also do an engine flush but last time I did that nowt changed.

/\/\ Messing about with the mixture results in canons being fired when coming off the gas. Must try harder at carb fiddling.

The Volvo now has LED daytime running lights like a stupid new car, thanks to Jasper Foxx gifting me some suitable bulbs when I visited him at the weekend:

Not sure if they will stay fitted for long, though, as they make the headlights look rather yellow in real life.

EDIT: Original bulbs back in. The LEDs are now in the reversing lights:

After a bit of thought, I think they would be better off as reversing light bulbs; I've had a pair of LED bulbs in TV2's reversing lights for a couple of years, and they really do make a difference when reversing in dark places :)

Same here. In my opinion, the modern factory-fitted DRLs have taken over from front foglights as the mongtard's bullying/intimidation lights of choice.

This is why loads are driving on sides and fogs, imo.

Tragic and annoying.

If I can afford the fuel at the time and I don't break down (two big ifs, I know) then I'm hoping to make it to Gaydon for the Drive It Day this year on the 27th of April.

Anyone else planning to toddle along?

Been in the Bini dealer with the mother again to discuss pricing - we've been told that if we order a One now it'll be the all new 2014 model - £20 tax, higher MPG and a new 1.2 three-pot turbo instead of the lethargic 1.6. The Cooper variant is getting great reviews - that launches in March, but there's a slightly longer lead time for the One. No problem with that as we're not quite ready to order yet.

Why is there water pouring out of my boot?  Oh crap, has the car broken again?  *has a look* Oh... well that was stupid of me.  Lid on the water bottle in the boot wasn't on properly, I now have a wet boot.

^ got the wet interior blues here too. At least you have a water bottle to blame, I've yet to find the all the culprits!

A three-pot BINI? Bugger. I might end up liking it.

They're all 3-pot turbo apart from the S now: 1.2 for the One, 1.5 for the Cooper (also in diesel), and a 2 litre 4 pot turbo for the S. The old 1.6 is no more.

Innocenti pond has grown, but then that's not entirely surprising as it's been raining most of the day (for a change).  If it's dry at the weekend, I'm going to do some serious interior strippage and get the carpets out before they rot out the floorpan.  If it's wet at the weekend, I'll sit in the car for a while and see if I can spot where the water is coming in.  A fun way to spend a Saturday in either case.

On my old BX Mk1, the door seals were the culprit. In fact, it turned out to be the rear door seal which was flooding the front footwell. On a really wet day, I finally spotted the dribble.

Put a pair of skinny wheels with winter tyres on the front of my polo incase it snows.

Driving with balding 185/60s is like driving with a pair of footballs as the only contact with the road. (It doesn't steer, stop, or move from a standstill)

I have a set but can't put them on the back due to the wheels bolts being too long.

I might, I intend to go to more events this year. Same caveats apply, of course!

Just blame the Environment Agency, you never know they might send the army in with some sand-bags and a pump to sort it out for you

Or they might send Nick Clegg.

Is it worth risking it?

I've nearly bought an XM! Er, anyone want a Sirion?

Would this be (hypothetically) your first xm DW? How close are you to going ahead?

Posted

It would indeed. I'll be calling a chap tomorrow to find out more, but it seems likely to go ahead. It's dirt cheap. WCPGW? But I really do need to offload something if it happens.
