I'm a bit worried about the 850. It's always managed a "fast pass" on my watch but you do sometimes see a bit of smoke in the mirrors, and if you reverse with the windows open you can tell the exhaust isn't as pleasant as it might be.

Is the gas analysis much the same idea as the petrol emissions test?

It is, yes. Ideally, a modern diesel should be tested for CO and HC the same way a petrol is but there are some serious issues with implementing it due to the particulate content of diesel fumes.

Boost leak somewhere I would say Beko

I thought that, I was going to go through all the pipes I could see and remove yesterday, but it started raining heavily so sacked it off. I'll have to do the opposite of moar boost for a while until I can have another look, and Google where the 2.2dci usually leaks it from so I don't waste too much time

Posted

It all went down hill faster when they took asbestos out the brake pads .

I've edited that for you.

Don't rely on google ! Loads of bollocks online

Also, don't expect a sensible answer to any question of the form "Where is my ..... leaking ...... from"

Just get the soapy water and spray bottle out and work your way along all the pipework from turbo to inlet.

What he said . Soak it in soapy water and go for s short full boost spin and have a look for bubbles.

Just went past a Bentley owners or drivers club meet on the London to Brighton run route, I did pause to see if xtriple may have been present but couldn't see a dollop being used as a dog van.

Automotive things Dave dislikes, number 73. Big bundles of wires taped and cable-tied under a dashboard, badly spliced into the vehicle loom with twist-n-tape joins using cheap electrical tape thats gone slimy and is peeling off.

I had hoped that since its apparently no longer the 1990's, this sort of thing would be less common, but the second alarm bodged into the Ranger alongside the factory one suggests otherwise.

snippy snip snip......C U L8R Meta alarm.

Also, maybe more of a grump than news, but fuck it....

I will just quickly swap over the LHD headlights from the Mazda....pop the grill out, a few bolts, job done..... lolNOPE. Turns out that despite being the same vehicles the front end tinwork is very slightly different....wings and bonnet being different at the front means that the  grill and headlights are non interchangeable for some reason despite literally everything else swapping right over.

I could swap the whole lot over, and am tempted to as one of the Ranger wings is a bit beat up, but the Mazda bonnet is pretty crispy.....eh fuck it.....looks like its black tape on the headlights for now, then.

Knowing the dollop is being used a dog van is one of the best things on here, it must drive the OCD freaks in the owners groups crazy. But they are a car so should be used as a car.

I fuckin love ripping alarms out of cars, it's dead therapeutic. There's one in the Talbot that I need get rid of cos it's draining the battery but I'm seriously lacking in "arsed" at the moment.

Left the house at 5:45 this morning to go and watch the start of the London to Brighton. Headed straight from Hyde Park at around 8:15 to Stoneleigh for the restoration show/autojumble which seemed a bit quiet but still provided some useful stuff. Quite tired now.

Yes indeed, the dollop is severely frowned upon by all in the various clubs, not quite the thing old chap to have dog drool running down the back doors and along the wings :)  I do however get some very funny looks from 'normal' people when the dogs bound out of the back and I instantly attack the car with a damp leather! No idea why but dog drool seems to eat into the paintwork on all three of the cars (something they eat?) and on two of them, I clean it off pretty sharpish.

Guess which one gets ignored.

The group of vintage inter war bentleys at staplefield were remarkably sangfroid about getting their cars dirty on the green, one had rooster tails of mud and grass as it power slided into place.

Driving back from work (because shit Sunday trains) I found that some clever sort has managed to have a car accident.

Silver lining: they completely uprooted one of the council's stealth painted speed cameras, and the last one on my way home from Manchester too!

Today was the day that I lost my mind... I sold my Dolomite and it's found itself a new home with the Triumph Sports Six Clubs Dolomite secretary in Leicester.

I promise that I didn't cry... much. Then this afternoon i collected my replacement hunk of junk.

I think this will be keeping me busy for a little while!

I can't wait to clean it up and assess how bad it is, first impressions though is that it's mostly surface rust and better than expected. It's also only done 41000 miles and I'm the second owner.

Which brings me to the next problem. The chap I bought it off got it in auction back in 1993 but never registered it as he's a trader, He's now only got the old V5 that's not in his name and the DVLA website doesn't recognise the document number. How do i register it in my name?

Posted

Send in its new keeper section? It's basically as if it's always been registered to the first owner.

I guess that might work, i didnt know if the logbook would still be accept? My mates still got the logbook but I've got a photo of it so I guess I could ask him to send it for me to the DVLA?

Yes send the old one off for change of keeper , but take numerous copies of everything before posting.

Also you can mark it requesting return of the cancelled original as part of the vehicles history, I've still got all the old blue logbooks for my bikes as well as the new style and the new new style

Posted

I have (if memory serves) all the V5s for my Volvo except the one from when it was new - and I've got a photocopy of that.

I don't see why an old style V5 would be no good as it's entirely possible for a car to have one as its current if it's been kept long enough.

Nice shiny new 67 plate coach today... exactly the same as the others but smells less like arse
