SiC Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 Smart Roadster is going into my local friendly garage tomorrow. 3 engine mounts and 2 reluctor rings to fit. 2 mounts are definitely shot and ripped to pieces, couldn't see the third but no doubt crooked. ABS kicks in at low speed and the rings look decidedly crusty. Hopefully that'll fix the banging I get when driving at >60mph. Also got them to do an inspection service (I've done oil+filter previously) for a professional eye to cast over it to see if there is anything that I've missed on it. Hopefully nothing major or too much else will come back! egg and Vince70 2
chodweaver Posted March 19, 2017 Posted March 19, 2017 Due to impending and probably ill fated attempts at old-chod-save-age, involving Zintec and a cheap mig, I find myself putting unusual search clues into ebay. And coming up with this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Spot-Weld-Welding-Gun-ARC-Welder-7-Spare-carbon-electrodes-Electrode-Stick-/141907045438?hash=item210a51ac3e:m:mDkCCL1b2DpjL4Z4KHO9qdw Now, I know they only work with an arc welder (got a cheap one of those too - just as hopeless with it as I am with a mig) but I can't believe that lots of chodbotherers aren't raving about this, what with arc welders being cheap and this little accessory allowing spot welds to be made from one side only, all for only* an additional spend of £42. So, has anyone got experience of these? What's the down side?
dave21478 Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 Most MOT repairs involve patches that need seam welds - its relatively rare to need to do spot welds and when you do need to do them, drilling holes in the top layer and plug welding with the MIG is as good as anything, so no real need to buy anything extra and have more cables getting tangled up on the floor. chodweaver 1

xtriple Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 Just taken the MX back to the dealers to have its paintwork sorted out that they scuffed, I was surprised they got it back in so quickly and, expecting a longish delay, I had touched it up with my official Mazda paint sticks. T be honest, after touch up, it looked fine! Hardly worth bothering about... anyway, I now have a Mazda 3 courtesy car on an 09 reg with 112.000 miles on the clock and it is like brand new! Seriously, perfect paintwork, interior like new and the car feels as tight as a drum, I thought it had done 9.000 miles until I looked for a 2nd (then 3rd, 4th) time.
Bobthebeard Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 The Rover 75 has now been collected and driven the 305 miles home from deepest Kent. A perfect Sunday out! First class there.....(Which for some weird reason was cheaper than a standard ticket) And back.... In luxury. Having two of them is just greedy, but am happy now. Bonus invoice in history file! Done at 93k. Now on 106k so ok for a year or two hopefully. Fat_Pirate, egg, LabRat and 14 others 17

Bobthebeard Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 Wow that looks like a nice 75! Tell us more!Bought on impulse (ebay) whilst on holiday with nothing better to do one evening! A two sentence description and a few photos but it somehow looked right. Paid the full asking price of £695. A few messages were exchanged with the seller and I felt reassured so bit the bullet. Am convinced that good, well maintained Rover 75's and MG ZT's will be going up in price as they get increasingly rare. Man maths possibly, but that's my excuse! BorniteIdentity, oldcars and alf892 3

xtriple Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 Let's hope your doggies don't scratch it inside or out then I am a good boy (!) and never take the mutts in a courtesy car, nor do I smoke in it, pick my nose and I even open the window BEFORE I fart Had a thought the other night re servicing, these days it never includes rear axle oil so I asked them (first thing this morning) if they had any ramp time free after the paintwork, could they check the oil level and if low or dirty, change it. I got there and guess what, the oil level was both low and dirty so it got changed. All fluids now new and clean. It has actually made a difference as I could hear a bit of axle whine before and now it is quiet. RayMK, Bobthebeard and gordonbennet 3

Lacquer Peel Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 ^Makes you wonder why much more powerful cars "need" up to 9 speed autos these days.

I split a pack with a mate as my Bonnie needed the dice ones to match the fluffy dice air fresheners strung over the clocks. tooSavvy 1
xtriple Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 If you borrow someone elses stuff (car, bike, wife whatever) it should be looked after properly. A courtesy car is no different, and there is NO cumpunction for the garage to lend you one: it's a courtesy! bub2006, Bobthebeard and chodweaver 3
