Volvo still providing stellar service.

 

The windscreens I got from FOAD were delivered down to Princes Riseborough yesterday evening by my good self. One turned out to be Fiat 128, the other a Renault rear screen for what we think is an 18.

 

It needs spoilers on the wiper blades - they chafe and vibrate like mad over 75 mph.

 

Horn has stopped working; heater issues narrowed down to either the bloody-hard-to-find base control pack or fan motor (same as a 940's).

Wheels throw a bit of weight and the NSR either has a broken bead or a slow. M&S tyres not agreeable in the Fens.

 

It's now utterly covered in shit and has helped three people collect stuff for their cars / move house / choke the local tip up with rubble.

 

Still doing 28 mpg on motorways. City work hammers it back to 21. Lowest ever mileage on a full tank recorded last week at 366.2.

 

Timing belt needs doing.

 

Next time I get a cheeky work assignment I'm lobbing some high test pez in to see if it makes a difference. Gave me a 5mpg improvement with the Piazza.

Trig. I had a 620ti albeit a very shonky 8 owner one.

It was not fun.

In no way could you describe it as sporty.

Quick in a straight line if you hold on to the wheel with both hands and concentrate, but not fun.

Your grandad might say he likes to go to the pub but don't expect him to do a line of jagerbombs on a Friday night.

Still a nice car for the 3 weeks or lasted before HGF saw it off.

N'ah, not got rid, just off to Specialist cars yet again for another slight spa session! I want the front ride height adjusting (they use shims to do so) as the new springs and stuff have settled a bit and it looks a bit low to me now. I wanted it lower than standard ('cos I am insane) but now it looks 'slammed'

Do you think?, That's what I'm trying to weigh up, the prices just don't seem to be there yet, yes on the face of it £500 for a 200bhp car with low mileage and no rust on the arches does seem cheap but it's been sitting for 18 months, possibly outside and it doesn't have a mot. I could get lucky and have it fly though or then it might fail miserably after sitting on damp grass that long and cripple me.

 

By all accounts the only reason it was parked up was because the old boy who's in his late 70's decided that it was too fast for him and had use of another car instead, he's now traded it in against a diesel estate. He chap selling it collects it later in the week so I might still go and have a look. I'd only be buying it to sell back on or ROFFLE it for something like £12 a ticket so i need to make sure it's worth it.

Mot passed with one advisory for slight play in the steering.

 

Is the steering box easy to adjust on these? I found the w123 was quite easy to access but haven't looked at this yet.

My Ti was an early one and I found that quite entertaining.  Not the last word in handling, but then it wasn't designed to be - if that's what you want, buy a late MG ZS.  It was still capable of covering ground very quickly indeed, and pissing off drivers of modern German kit, which is what it's all about really.

Think all the Mercs of that era are easy to do but you have to use a BIG spanner/pair of adjustables for the big nut where the steering column comes out.

After replacing the bulbs in the Clio172 for new ultrabright ones, the next step was to polish the crappy plastic headlamps..

 

Those of us with exquisite taste in cars (those with actual GLASS lenses) don't suffer from UV yellowing of lenses, but many post 1986 cars do.

 

Initially they looked bloody gritty and scratched even when cleaned, feeling like 2 day stubble should you brush your hands across them.

 

I applied the super paste and some emery pads where required

 

 

This yielded good results!

 

 

Would recommend! Still plenty left in the kit to do the fabia etc

very nice. There's a video somewhere on YouTube where a couple of lads test various household products such as toothpaste, brasso and piss to clear headlight lenses. I don't think the piss was very effective but certainly livened up the video

I did one of them there wash and waxes on the Golf today, it turns out there's a lot more of it than the 205. I think the reason the roof looks pants is there's literally no clear coat on it, the paint restorer turned a lovely shade of red.

It was slightly manky before.

Not yet! I spoke with the seller last night, he's decided to put it in for a mot to see what it's up against and will add it to the price, this could be bad news but I'm going to wait and see what happens. At the moment I've apparently got first refusal on it and he's told me to come over for a coffee and a look at it once it's back at hhis unit.

An MOT guy on here will know exactly, however I guess the polyfilla(?) is covering all the sharp bits. The rusty bits on the sill itself I guess aren't structural bits of the car and the big hole happens to be further than the 30cm or whatever it needs to be away from the suspension mountings??

Later on I shall be collecting a hired Luton van to drive down to West Wales, I am wondering if this is classed as a high sided vehicle of the type that we are being advised not to drive during storm Doris Day; how high is high? There are only a couple of bits of the M4 that will worry me with cross winds, so hopefully I shall get there in one piece. The last time I drove a Luton van down there the headwinds were so bad I was changing down on the flat.

I would say a luton body constitutes a high sided vehicle and having to change down to maintain forward progress is a minor inconvenience, it’s being flipped over that is serious.

The sprinter I used was horrendous in slight winds to be honest. A lot taller than it was wide and not much to keep it stuck to the road. I would not like to risk it. I should have fetched a reliant today but I've gave that a swerve. Towing dolly and all.
