I remember in the early 90's he managed to have an Alfa 6 on the staff cars bit of c&sc. Quite an achievement as Martin Buckley told me they could be a bit fickle about what cars were allowed to be featured. Speaking of which I nearly bought a fiat 130 saloon project off him a few days ago but (in a rare moment of sensibleness) ended up buying a modern hack instead (see signature)

Somehow some of these makes come out of multi-million dollar headquarters here.

Well I bought the golf home tonight.

Its very smooth, very quiet but feels very disconnected from the road... Steering is too light

... which sounded shit compared to radio 1 on fm.

Radio 1 sounds shit compared to most things on the radio. Aural pollution.

I hired a new VAG car recently and my findings are similar to yours, yet (bribed?) motoring journalists still reckon they're good to drive and the best in all of their classes.

The Fabia I hired is not as good to drive as a knackered 17 year old French van.

Got up early to do some c15 shuffling in preparation for bub coming up. Hopefully we will get his van in good shape today and my white c15 will yield some good spare parts for him.

9 Range Rovers ? Really ? According to LR website there's 7 dealerships in NZ and they seem to sell the complete range ( ha!) ie Ewok, Sport and Proper Range Rover.

Last seen presenting some awful programme called Used Car Roadshow or something. In fact, they were recording an episode at the first Retro Rides Gathering 2007 as I recall. Which was strange.

I remember that chap. he used to write in a white marker all over the cars windscreens.

If you can see volvos frolicking in fields, and square sausage growing in the hedgerow then you have arrived!

Aye, but if you see seagulls the size of Jack Russels, you've gone too far north!

Ace! Not seen one of those early XCs in ages. What the hell's going on with the Stagecoach stickers in the rear screen though?

It was owned by a bus driver I believe. They seem to like sticking bus related tat to their Volvos...

So I drove the golf into work this morning.

My parking space is on a slight incline, the Xantia just hauls itself up and out on tickover, the golf would not release the handbrake no matter how much I revved it until something smelt, so I had to push the handbrake off button...

The DAB is either shit or Planet Rock were having issues this morning, as it worked fine until I got the the M40 then lost it's signal until I got pretty much to work, and missed a cracking ELO song...

I stalled it at handy cross with it stopped (thought I would give the stop start a try). I then got tooted at as I forgot to dump the clutch to turn it on with the key as a message came up saying 'manual start required;. Much traction control lightage occurred as I fired it back up and shot off before the lights changed to red.

I forgot about 6th gear for most of the journey

When it labours the engine at too low speeds in the wrong gear you can feel a slight shudder that's obviously causing the DMF to cry. The Xantia just shakes all it's running gear, which is a nice warning sound to change down.

Either the rear screen or rear view mirror is tinted, and looks fucking stupid

It turns the air con on by default. Sod off, I don't want air con - Off!

What was fun though was setting the cruise control to 30 in 3rd for the last village before the M40, then setting it to 70 and leaving it in 3rd!

It has no parcel shelf so it's proper noisy from the bootage area

So 5/10. It did the job, is quite fast, but too many buttons, horrible ride, I hate stop/start and I imagine one would get proper lazy with the radar cruise all day every day. I sat in the Xantia at lunchtime and sunk into the velour and smiled. But it saved me a round trip to work using my own fuel, and TBH was fine going to Barnsley in mainly L3 of the motorway with the radar cruise set to 90. (I didn't drive it there or back)

Oh, and there's a compass display at the top of the speedo LCD. I wondered why the fuck it was saying ASW, AN, AEW etc until I realised the A was actually an arrow, then SE, S, E etc. I don't care, I'm going forward, that's all I need to know.

Driving sensibly down the back roads to the M40 too it averaged only 36mpg too, only hitting 40+ when on the M40 and at a constant 80, so I imagine many people are dissapointed with the economy around town. It's a bluemotion too, which is stupid as it's a burgandy colour on the outside

I have just told MrsV8 that i am bored shitless with the car i spent x-amount of money  on the 1st of december. There is nothing wrong with it,it is quite fast, quite fuel efficent, good to drive, lots and lots of toys but soulless. It will have to stay for a around a year.

What i may do is buy another mgf,if i sell the Daimler i may buy a boxster.Or even better win the saab roffle.

How long has it taken you lot to get bored?

Edit:- our lasses face was a picture when i told her,i'm sure i read get-to-fuck from behind her eyes.

I've been bored of the Xantia for the past couple of months, but can't seem to shift it.

It's very comfortable and very competent, it's just... meh.

Possibly one for the daft question thread, but does anyone know if there is a hidden manual tailgate release on an 03 Volvo XC90? I have had a call from a friend whose Volvo is dead, they have tried to jump it from the connectors under the bonnet, it did briefly have some life, but it looks like the cold snap has completely killed the battery and they can't get the tailgate to open because of dead battery and the battery is in the boot. I'm sure there must be a way to access the battery and have offered to have a look tomorrow

I was pretty fed up/bored of the Saab when I got it and for a good few months after. For the last 2 month's though, after I fixed a lot of annoying bits, I've really been enjoying it.

Unfortunately I've sold it now and it's going tomorrow! Genuinely going to miss it.

Bored so bored of space runner. Does everything it needs to.... But yawn.

Need to get round to selling / swapping it.

Presumably if they attach a good battery to the jump points under the bonnet it would power up the car enough to open the tailgate, even if it won't start the car?
