I just don't have time to look after a car any more. The jobs are piling up and the opportunities to drive it somewhere I actually want to go are rare. The insurance runs out in April, that will be the end unless my mojo improves.

Passed, no advisories. Back of the net!

Right. Saturday morning chores he we come...

Apologies if I've missed anything on Pride of Longbridge 2017 but does anyone know if it's going ahead? Car events website advises 'caution' due to the previous cancellation.

If it is on I need to weigh up if I can get the Metro MOT'd and running (the one I collected from The Old Bloke Nextdoor of this parish), as well as getting the Kallista to the NEC. A tall order I know but the challenge could be on.

Garbaldy - your gran died at 106?

That's an incredible life span. Much respect.

My memories pretty shit so forgive me as I forget what I did yesterday,

but yes she managed to out live all of her friends and much of our family and after a quick check beccy was in fact 109 when she left us,

It's totally rust free apart from that inner wing, a common Berlingo grot spot. I like the sound of a patch of metal and ultra strong adhesive

Weigh in time for the 850 is approaching.

Sorry to hear this Brother Richard. Winter probably doesn't help when it gets to feeling like that. Hope your mojo perks up soon.

Is that a frog having a dump reflected on the wing?

As much as it looks like it. No!

Jaaaag can haz new MoT. You now sit in the passenger seat while the tester performs the brake efficiency test. "Ooff! Plenty o'brakes in this thing".

The shock absorber test is no longer performed at 8 feet in the air. Always made me nervous, that bit.

Did my first collection of 2017 this morning.

An R3 has been on my low aspiring bucket list for a while, mainly just to see how they compare with R8s. Overall impressions are good, and I wasn't sure how many valves it had until I popped the bonnet. So was pleasantly surprised to find this

None of your 16v fanciness here thanks! It bombs along great on fast A and B roads, but the long travel and slightly jerky clutch pedal makes urban driving a bit of a chore. I remember the old AS bike 220 had a similar trait. I'd say the seats in an R8 are more comfortable, and this has trim rattles a Montego would be proud of, so build quality took a bit of a slide in that regard (although admittedly this is the only R3 I've experienced, others may be less creaky).

However, it's a flippin' hoot to drive and I hammered it on the way home, temp gauge staying just below half. It'll be a very temporary member of the fleet, so expect a for sale/roffle thread in the next few weeks.

De-badged for stealth. Plate worth literally tens of pence to a shiter.

N?! That's an early R3. Not seen one that old for a loooong time. They've aged absurdly well.

That's one reason why I went for it, early examples of cars can often have a certain appeal. History shows it had the head skimmed and gasket replaced at four years old, so might be due a bout of HGF...!

Someone on here has a HGF plate, you should sell them the FTP plate. Think the chap has a garage, FTP would be good on a recovery wagon

Considering that R8 production ended in 1995, your R3 is definitely an early one.  I hadn't realised there was an overlap on production until I did some fact checking online.

Another quality motor purchase Mr T. I had an early R3 as a rental once and my main memory is of it scampering eagerly along like a spaniel puppy. A real hoot.

The only other one I've been in is Wuvvum's outstanding Rover of Doom, but that's not entirely representative of the breed (to say the least).

The Merc 300SE passed it's test this morning with no advisories, the only comment was that emissions were spot on, good to hear after I spent half the spring fannying about trying to get to run properly,

As it hadn't been anywhere since about September I took it 60m to Newcastle to see my son and young grand daughter, on the way there I followed a Savvy at Gatehead, I'd not seen one before. Does our very own TooSavvy own a copper coloured 57 reg one by any chance?

While I had the Abarth in for it's first service, I found out that KIA sell a car that cost's £43,000...

It seemed well made inside and very modern, but I hate to sound like a brand snob but that's ALOT of money for a KIA.

It's a lot of money for any car.

Its a 214 right?

The little Aprilia has finally nearly FTPd, after providing sterling winter service thus far. Half way home from work on Friday it developed a mahoosive misfire, and I only just got it home where it expired like Dick Turpin's horse. It would idle, but carked it when revved.

"The main jet's full of crap" I hear you all saying, and you'd be right. But I cleaned the carb and changed the fuel filter when I got it, so where did it come from?? One of life's mysteries I guess.

Either way, a thorough clean later and it's back to its traffic-dodging, teeth-loosening Italian best. I do like a free fix!
