Tried that, s'not fixed it.

Good idea though.

Started the Astra up this evening and swapped it around on the drive with the Saab. Started and moved absolutely fine. I'm glad I left it in gear and the handbrake odd though (drum brakes). Pumped up the tyres - only lost 6psi or so in a couple of months.

Ready for its big day for it tomorrow, MOT time!

Just a bit nervous as Bristol is full of ANPR cameras and police cars. Directline assure me that I'm covered and everything. Been uninsured and SORN for a couple months and MOT expires last month. So hopefully the systems are updated reasonably quickly!

Anyone know how to open 'goona2 back doors when neither the inside nor outside handle work? I know it's electrical as they both failed on the same day, so it's bound to be the central locking only moving halfway or something equally retarded & french.

Assume it's not a fuse? Tried disconnecting the battery for half hour to reset everything?

As the mkII Panda wasn't ready for the off-roading weekend I took the modern one - then chickened out of the pay and play day in a quarry as I'm thinking of chopping it in for something else either fiaty or alphaish.

I saw a reno wind on a dealer site but couldn't see how I could transport extra person and dog so ditched that idea.

It's looking like a twinair 500 or a diesel cross mk3 panda or a Mito, depending on who gives the better trade in.  I will argue the point that book values are undervaluing my 4x4 as OMGSNOKAOS imminent.

That's about the only thing I've not done.

I like the very anti-renault fact that there is over 3k on the trip computer currently,..

It's not a fuse btw, the same fuse does all five doors & the front & boot work fine. You can hear the rear doors work, but they remain locked if that makes sense. I think I'll be pulling window trim off & trying to yank the cable with bent wire at some point. Got till the MOT in march to sort it.

EDIT: Just checked 37.6mpg on the trip computer is really 35.3mpg...

Could be the child locks have got themselves in a confused state.

Thanks. Child locks make sense as both doors broke at the same time.

I decided it was them & then ignored it as the only reason I open the back doors is to get the shopping backs out of the seat back pockets, got till march to fix it as I said. I'll take a look once I've plumbed the bathroom that is currently just joists for a raised floor - only need to plumb it, attach the rayburn to the plumbing, insulate the walls, fit the floor & install the bathroom & then block it off with a partition wall....

Apart from the money stuff,  ask for name + address (+ signature) of buyer for V5 beforehand if he/she is not collecting.   Do the V5 transfer online as this results a new owner V5 in 3 working days.

This sounds like a possible ballache.

I've knocked back his offer, would much rather deal with someone in person who can check over what they are buying beforehand.

Colt just FTPed and I don't have any tools with me. Autoaid to the rescue

Bugger. Does it definitely have fuel? RobT did mention something about the autochoke occasionally playing up, but it was perfect during my many hundreds of miles.

Yeah I think the battery has died or something's blown leading to the starter - I don't have tools or a jump pack with me

Bother! I once had to call out the AA when all I needed was a pair of pliers. That was annoying.

Recovery truck from the firm they said was coming just arrived - to collect another car from the same place! Fuck sake!

The Oldsmobile is now a step nearer to going in for the MOT. Have re fitted the transmission pan with new gasket and re filled it with ATF. Taken it for a cheeky drive round the block and all seems ok. (It is insured). Just no MOT/tax yet. Once I have replaced all the brake pads later this week it will be going in for the MOT. The replacement monoleaf metal transverse rear spring seems to be doing the job. Happy so far!

Re: Monoleaf...

What are you to do with the 'spring compressor'? Did you say you had to buy a brand new one....

Big 'sell-on' market then... like RollySpits 8)

Ah, yes. The spring compressor. Bought used on ebay USA. Hopefully I won't need it again! It is massive, really well made and a proper good tool! Almost aerospace quality (I worked at Rolls Royce in Derby for four years). No idea what to do with it now! Weight around 15kg.

Don't know if it's northern Ireland specific but LIDL have some car stuff - trolley jacks, axle stands, trickle chargers etc, worth a look

More a stupid question, but related to my earlier post. Are the metal pipes running from the fuel tank to the carbon canister thingy (vent pipes?) likely to fail the MOT if crusty?

Are they leaking? If not I'd have a go at cack handedly tidying them up with emery paper and some hammerite, at least it'll slow down the rot a bit

Hard to say if they are leaking as they are (presumably) just vent pipes from the tank. Rusty as heck tho.
