Don't Mercedes wheels fit VW campers (T5 models)? If so there must be a ton or so in them to some 'original' type to make his glorified van look like everyone else's.

If you drill the holes (PROFESSHUNULLY) AMG ones will go on a blue 1998 Audi A4 with a grey leather interior and persistent top end oil leak, too.

Though only a certifed crevice would do such a thing.

Huzzah and Hurrah!

Finally finished putting the Panda Parade back together and after working out that I'd mixed up the flow and return fuel lines IT LIVES!

I immediately added engine flush to the  oil and coolant flush to the water and ran for 30mins.

Drained the oil, changed the filter and topped up with fresh - then realised I hadn't fitted the sump plug.

Flushed the er, flush out of the rad and engine, nothing to see in the drain off though I did find oil clinging to the insides of the water reservoir despite having no contamination of water or oil, makes me think it's had a head gasket before, especially as everything came apart so easily.

Refilled with coolant and deionised water, cos it sounds posh, therefore good for the car, ran it up to temperature and no leaks or nasty noises.

Took it for a gentle spin, it's not that lively for a fuel injected panda, I've ordered some new plugs and hope that will improve matters, the lead set was oos at euro crap arts (typical as they had 30% off) so that will have to wait too, unless I've upset the timing, those marks are very hard to see!

I don''t think the car has had proper love for a while, the sump is very rusty at the front, they're not much money and would be worth doing.  I'm going to sort the brakes out tomorrow though, that front disc is plain nasty.

Overall I'm very very happy with the results of my first engine job, confidence is high and I'm aiming to take the engine and gearbox out of the donor panda, the easiest way is to drop the whole lot onto the floor and lift the car up over it!

Oh er, a bit hot, but luckily it was just cos of the engine and water flushes!

In unrelated news, unsurprisingly I did not have my petrol tank back today. When I rang on Saturday I was told that it was finished but that they had not worked out the final cost. I rang this morning to see what it was in case they preferred cash, to be told there was a problem and that they would get the chap who was working on it to speak to me, I was therefore quite taken aback when a chap came onto the phone and proceed to tell me off. After he had had a good rant at me about how busy they were and that he was working to his timescale not mine as they had much more important work to get on with, I was also told that the work was difficult (something which I already know and appreciate).

I decided to pop down there, it was obvious that they were having a bad day as the other chap was just as bad when I went in, getting a retaliation in before I had even said a word. I attempted to ease the situation and said I did not want to fall out with him, to be told that we wouldn't fall out as he had plenty of work to do without mine and that I could take it away if I wasn't happy.

Things did settle down a little and eventually we had a chat about what was not going well, I also had a chat with the chap doing the job who was much more amenable face to face. I hope that they can sort it soon as I really need to get the car moving, I know that they do very good work and I don't like to pester people, but I'm getting a bit frustrated. I did collect what is left of the dead fuel gauge sender, I had hoped it might be salvageable, but seeing the state of it have given in and ordered a new one.

I'm begining to feel like xtriple throwing money at a car that I can't ever drive.

That all sounds a bit crap, really. Sympathies. I was going to take the radiator from my SD1 into them for re-coring, but it sounds like I'd better give that a swerve.

All 2cvs are silly money now. I got mine as a cheap first car- now they're a lot dearer than anything far more sensible.

Real silly money 2cvs are the twin engined saharas- £80,000 and up!

I saw a lot of Meharis when I was on holiday in France. I was curious as to how much they’re worth out there, to find very little under 10,000 euros and some up to 25,000.

I wouldn't say mad, exactly. Brave, maybe.

I like these - I briefly considered one new - and they still qualify (to me) as interesting, because a mainstream manufacturer dared to be different. Rotary engine, the door arrangement, the styling in general - all a refreshing change from the tired ubiquity of hatchback, diesel, Macpherson struts and our-cupholders-are-shinier-than-yours.

It'll be interesting to see how you get on, though obviously for your sake I hope it's tediously reliable.

Lovely colour, too.

My own news is tinged with grump: having earned a gold star by passing its MOT with no advisories, and led me down the primrose path of saying nice things about it on here and promising it a good Italian tune-up and some regular use, my SD1 has now FTPd on my driveway.

The battery is fine and it can be persuaded to do a few revs if I squirt some EasyStart up its nose, but otherwise it won't properly catch on the starter. I can hear the fuel pump as normal. The petrol is pretty stale, but it ran ok the other day and I've chucked in a gallon of fresh stuff to no avail.

The only difference I can think of between now and when it ran fine is that it's now pointing slightly uphill, so I'm wondering whether the fuel pump is so enfeebled that it can't push the fuel up the slope. Could rig up a gravity feed I suppose, and see what that does.

So the SD1 won't start, the XJ-S won't start and the Victor either starts or idles but not both. Fuxake.

Didn't get chance to speak to the owner as they always seemed to be out and I am like a recluse anyway.

But today finally sun appeared.

Pitched by the sea for the next few days hopefully it stays sunny.

Rig up gravity feed or jack the back end up?

Which would be easier....

Damn you and your intelligent lateral thinking. (Stomps off to fetch ramps from shed.)

After fucking about since the last server crash, I have finally managed to make the forum work on the sodding phone again. Not been in the office much to catch up there so this is somewhat betterer.

Updates from the last time I was here...

The 205 diesel is now MOT'd. Rough and ready but now legal.

After nearly divorcing me, my wife now likes the 850 a great deal. The 406 estate makes her very carsick and the 850 saloon has fuck all luggage space so I think an 850TDi auto estate is now on the shopping list to replace this 850S and the 406 estate. Arse.

Pretty sure there is a V70 TDi estate auto for sale on this very forum. It's exactly the same as a 850 with the corners slightly rounded off.

In the UK you are never more than 9 miles from a garden ornament RX8 with rotor tips made of cheddar.

If you think that's not true then perhaps there is one very close to you but invisible due to long grass...

But as they cost less than a packet of cathedral city then they are well worth a punt.

I never had any problems with my RX-8.  As long as I didn't try to start the engine when it was warm.  Or stall it.  Or switch it off within 3 minutes of a cold start.

My parents moved back to England today, after 23 years in France.  Or at least they began the process - they've left their old place and are now en route.  Texted my dad at lunchtime to make sure it was all going OK - got a reply to say that the removal van had got a puncture on the motorway on the way down, the toilet had broken, and one of the removal men got stuck in the lift and they had to call the fire brigade to get him out.  Hopefully the run of bad luck has now ended and the rest of the process will go swimmingly - it's a fucking big upheaval, especially for two people in their mid '60s (although to be fair they're both quite "young" for their age).  They don't have a place here yet either - they're going to be staying with my mum's sister in Somerset while they look.  It'll be nice to be able to just get in a car to go and see them (even if it does take several hours), rather than a plane / train / ferry.

In more cheerful news, and to my surprise, the Movano passed its MOT today, needing only a couple of brake pipes and the handbrake freeing off.  Not bad for a van which was supposedly fucked when I bought it a year ago - to be fair it does smoke a bit from a cold start if it's been stood, but it's fine once it's warmed up, and it's never once FTP'd.

Arse man, my spotting skills are faltering badly. Was in Colchester just coming out of a Peugeot dealer looking to get to the train station when this SERIOUSLY CLEAN Partridge-look-a-like Sterling come floating past, driven by a posh looking lady driver in her late 40s/early 50s. It was a blue with a private plate '481 CRW' which turns out it's a 2.5 KV6 Sterling. Basically, my car but same colour/cleanliness as Partridges.

I was so overwhelmed I just froze admiring the car and didn't whip out the phone for a pap as I usually would.

Also spotted but not papped; Sherpa camper van in Yellow in Derbyshire/Yorkshire border near to Holmfirth, White Montego estate in Belbroughton, plus loads of other stuff that's too depressing to list.
