Made an attempt to tow the Renault home with the tow pole and Chompy's Picasso.  First issue I knew about was having no towing eyes at all anywhere on the Renault, so we used the bumper iron because that's bolted to the chassis and is the only thing the pole will attach to.  I do not have a tow rope.  Test tow around the yard went smoothly so we set off in convoy with Chompy in the towing car, Mike in the Renault and me behind in the Rover to provide a safe rear vehicle.

The GOOD news is that the Renault's brakes work, it steers well, it rides well and looks pretty smart on the road.  It genuinely turns heads in a way I've only ever seen supercars manage, which was a very pleasant surprise.

The BAD news was that when Chompy stopped at the first junction the tow pole unhooked itself so we made it the grand total of about 500 yards.  Rehitched it and put the Renault back in the unit for now because we have no safe way of towing it four miles.

Going to get a trusted chap with a flatbed to move it but that could take a while, he's good but always in demand.  A-frame loan wouldn't help as I have no vehicle with a tow bar.  Is there a knack to towing these cars?  Or is it just that it should have a towing eye and mine hasn't got one?

I'm having towing woes too. 2CV will not be making an appearance at the local show tomorrow, because I can't find a bloody trailer to get the thing there. FAIL.

Surely investing four pounds in a tow rope would be the logical solution?

Vulg, I hope chompy challenged you to a fist fight in the street after the junction incident.

I take it the renner still isn't running then? I'm going to be in the area over the weekend if you want me to have a quick look at it...

I haven't had time to do any more on it so no, it's still not running.  That was the big reason for towing it home, so I could have it more easily accessible to work on it and get it running.  It's gonna be something super simple, I'm just flat out with work so finding any time is pretty tough.

You're more than welcome to come and have a poke at it and point out what stupid thing I've not done that's dead obvious to anyone else looking at it... and I just remembered I STILL forgot to get that photograph of the leads for Eddie Honda.

Taking the Primrose Connie down to the Kent coast tomorrow.  Paid my rip off £5 toll fee for a bridge that has been paid for 3 times over, now to fill it up with Pez.  The £5 toll fee becomes insignificant then... Looking forward to the drive, don't often go very far in the old girl.

KV6 Powaaaaa ahead.

Two things spotted in Rutland. I don't have the faintest idea what they are all about.

Vulg, if you are going to tow it, switch the ignition on and drop it into third.

It'll loosen everything up nicely, and might try to fire!

It'll certainly pump the fuel through, so that will eradicate one potential issue, and may well splutter into life!

This just trotted down my road.

I hope he knows its a small cul-de-sac at the end. Hard to do a 3 pointer in a small car let alone twin horses.

Deal?

Deal's quite a nice place. I grew up in a village not far from the town and my mother currently resides there.

I have no idea how horses work.  Do they have reverse?

Yes.. They walk backwards. Lots of these in Blackpool, they can reverse if needed.

Well he's managed it 4 times now.

It was quaint at first but now the galloping shuttle wagon for pretty little princesses is getting on my tits.

A report from our local show. I got there nice and early. The owner of an MG TD took offence and went and parked somewhere else. Your loss mate! The next chap turned up in an Oxford Series II and we had a lovely chat.

The owner of the TR4 next to me has owned it since the 1970s. It was his daily driver, and has covered over 380,000 miles. It has a tow bar so he can pull a little trailer around. This man is a winner. And yes, it is still on steelies and hubcaps! Awesome.

I didn't get that many shots of other vehicles, but here's a smeary shot of some sunshine. The Mini was a Cooper Mk3, in nicely shonky condition. The Saab 90 is a regular, and has only covered 4800 miles from new.

The owner of the TR4 also owns this fantastic 1962 E-Type 3.8. He swapped it for a job he carried out on another E-Type in the early 1990s, got it back on the road in 1999 and it has a screewash which is a pipe sticking out of the bonnet and taped to the middle wiper.

This was the most Autoshite tractor.

There was then a parade of classic vehicles.

I got lapped by a tractor driven by an actual lady.

This lovely pic of a local A30 won a prize in the craft tent.

A final shot. I've driven this Model T. It's fantastic.

A few people did come up to chat, which was nice.

Mg owners can be right arses . A ( late) friend of mine used to organise a car show in cornwall and the mgoc demanded their own line and first refusal of where to park . He told them its first come first served and they wouldn't show . Their loss .

MOT time for the Punto today. The back brakes were making funny noises so I opened them up. All seemed well so I applied a wire brush and brake cleaner, which seemed to do the trick.

It only failed on one thing, a big hole in the front subframe. It seems that they cheapened the subframe when they did the facelift, all the Mk2B Puntos in the scrapyard had rotten subframes and all the Mk2s had good ones.

As luck would have it the only Mk2 that wasn't sitting on its belly also had new bottom arms, which was nice. Everything came off reasonably easy and they took £30 for the subframe complete with the anti roll bar and the new arms, which seemed very reasonable. I just wish it hadn't started pissing rain.

Tomorrow I will fit it to the car. In the pissing rain.
