I hope he put some axle stands under there, before he crawled between it, and the wall!

yes, you can see the base of the o/s one. No idea why he didn't move it out into the drive though.

Now fixed this morning - solenoid contacts had corroded to nothing. Starter fine, so left alone and a new solenoid fitted.

My Pug 205 automatic has been with a garage all day to investigate my suspicion that OMGHGF is underway (see earlier posts if you are that interested).  Compression tests were fine and they could not make it do its slime ejection from the top of the expansion bottle trick or even make it bubble significantly.  In the end, a temporary compromise was agreed.  Oil and filter change, thorough coolant system flush and fresh refill, test drive (confirmed as running beautifully) and see what happens over the next few hundred miles.  Odd.  I thought I knew an OMGHGF when I saw one.

Justice! It failed on a loose wiper blade.

I'm chuffed that supergluing the cracked TRE and CV boots as recommended by Richard got it through.

The bust handbrake cable was a bugger to get a replacement for, two aftermarket cables were too long but luckily someone advertised a Caddy breaking for spares two days before the test so I nabbed one off that. It's upsetting to take parts off a breaker that's in better condition than your own.

Can you polish scratches on a windscreen?

I've superglued 2cv gaitors before- works rather well.

Ha! ... some people have made a lifes work* of this.....

*OK. The wiper edge scratch on just about every AX took a lifetime to polish out....

Yes - some jewellers stuff can do it, hang on ... Cerium Oxide?

It's a pain by hand and you make it look worse before it gets worse before it gets better. Google it, loads of vids on youtube.

Wet, wet, wet, wet, - keep going - wet, wet, wet &c&c.

Yes WET!... let the polish solution dry on the mopp and it WILL burn the glass..

... rare, I know, to proclaim myself an expert 8)

In slower news, the Dyane has been fuelled up for Drive it Day. May be catching up with Mr Six Cylinder who's going to be over here with chums.

I think I'm going to miss the Dyane.

I caught a train today,  when a 30 year old 150/2 groaned into the station 20 minutes late an old boy asked the guard if this was the best she could find.  The response was that they were lucky to get this so I think Arriva Trains Wales might be having a few FTP's at the moment.

It had a good view though,  on the way into Hereford I saw a BX and CX parked together followed by a yard full of 2cv's Ami's H vans etc.  That would be Mr Wobblers friendly Citroen specialist then.  I saw a lowered matt black 2cv lurking in town too.

Fleet reliability is at an all time low,  the Disco is not starting reliably as it's not charging.  I would shell out for an alternator but it is flashing up the oil light a lot too.  A new oil switch has just arrived and I've bought some better oil so I'll see if that improves matters enough to spend money.

This means that Ms C has the key to the ex-shitpeas 405 which always behaves for me.  Unfortunately like all the grey French cars I've owned it dosen't get on with her so is doing the random not starting thing a bit.  Luckily there are plenty of hills around here so I have suggested stratigic parking,  this did not go down well.

On the way home I stopped to talk to an old boy I see around town a bit,  he was having bother with an old Triumph Trophey 1200 so I gave him a hand to bump start it.

Ah yes. The line goes right past his house. Matt black 2CV would be the BMW-powered beast.

I've put the boot box on the 2cv for drive it day. I'm joining a 2cv trip to the aircraft museum at woodley. I've not put petrol in it since October!

Picked up the white clx from the garage after it gained a fresh MOT was gained, had three brake lines replaced as they were still on the plastic coated steel stuff which has been known to burst!  He commented on how it seemed to be a good little car.  It is! 32k and drives like new!

Anyway it's done and the bill will land on the doorstep next week sometime,  I took him the recently purchased Uno as the mot is due the middle of next month and he's very busy, so just does mine when he has time.

Today I picked up a set of glass for a panda.  All the glass is flat, os and ns are interchangeable so easy to transport.  Had a lovely run out with tomtom avoiding the traffic by sending down single track lanes with hairpin turns which i failed to negotiate without reverse!

I really must do some more exploring was a great road,

You want to be careful there it looks like those PT's are breeding, like rabbits they are you will be over run in no time.

In other news the bloke nextdoor has just bought this and is having it shipped over.

It does look the biz and has had some serious engine work as well. I suspect he has been admiring the Cavalier as this is even more beige.

That'll be Llandrindod Wells then. Marvellous building.

Anyway, after 18 months of really not very good remote central locking on the XM, I finally spent £3 for a full set of fob batteries for the XM (due to another locking issue, I find it sensible to carry the spare key with me too!).

Result? I can now unlock it from here and don't have to swear at it anymore!

Indeed it was. I did wonder if we close to your part of the world.

Close in Welsh terms - ie a bit less than an hour away.

Will it unlock when you are closer to it as well? Otherwise it would be awfully inconvenient having to run upstairs every time.

Drinking just one blue Slush Puppy turns your shit green for about a week.

The continuing saga of 205 OMGHGF is it or isn't it ?  is....err....continuing.  Yesterday evening I looked under the bonnet after my son had driven it home from the garage.  Nice clean blue coolant in the expansion bottle and at the correct level when it had cooled down.  Later, I took the 205 out for a drive around the lanes, plus a blast down a stretch of A5.  The coolant warning light (level, not temperature) came on on right handers and off on left handers, suggesting a substantial bubble in the rad - the sender is on the top right of the rad, looking from the driving position.  Engine temperature was normal throughout and the car drove very nicely.  I put it to bed last night feeling fairly happy.  This  morning, I checked the levels again prior to (possibly) using it for a trip to Leicestershire, 40 miles or so each way.  Unfortunately, the level was down by 30mm from the marked normal level and the once clean coolant was opaque and the colour of dilute cement mix, together with scum on top.  The 205 thus remained parked and I used the Stellar for the trip.  The garage has been informed and the 205's head will be removed for inspection, liners checked for correct position (they can apparently drop) and then, depending on the verdict and cost, a new head gasket will be fitted.  3rd May, so time to warn my wallet.

ALL TEH ON STREET PARKING BELONGS 2 ME

post-5013-0-45337600-1461348876_thumb.jpg

Despite meaning to reduce numbers, the JohnK bargain Senator was too good an opportunity to miss. So a plan formulated and John drove down to Hampstead today to collect another executive motor (a very nice BMW 530) and I wafted home in the Senator. 3 hours to cover 15 miles, flippin madness, but that's London traffic on a Friday afternoon I suppose.

It's brilliant! I think I'll bring it to Shitefest.
