Finally had enough of all the clonks on the front suspension on the 806. New bottom arms and anti roll bar links fitted but it seems the main problem was a load of wear in the hub where the ball joint fits so off to the scrappy to find a replacement.

My condolences too, Bren.

In other news: MrsR bought me a dashcam the other day as a birthday present (two weeks to go...) and I've been using it in everything I drive.  Hyacinth, Swoopy Saab, Mary Jane... the only thing it hasn't been in yet, because I haven't driven it since, is the Blob.  It's proved the lighter socket works in each one!  Haven't used the playback yet, but then I hope I never have to.

Surely you should at least test the playback, to make sure it is actually recording video of your driving instead of distorted pigeon song overlayed with tubular bells.

There's no manual winder, it could be possible to force the motor to wind the seat but I'd rather power it up.

Obviously different but the omega used to have a 15 mm nut on the end of the worm drive you could get to with a slim socket and extension, may be worth a check

Placed a provisional bid on one of these tonight

Hideous, but a cheap convertible in April is a good thing right?

Looks like I dodged a bullet - my bid was £250 under CAP Average so it would've been a cheap car but the seller wanted more - I asked the auction house to put in a slightly higher offer and they asked whether I was aware that the roof doesn't work!

Walking past this today, I think it might have a bit of overspray

Nugget is my wheels again until I can get the Rover's key fob fixed.  What a brilliant little motor this has been for getting Mike and I out of the shit every time our regular cars are out of action.  Yes it's slow and rolypoly and people like to tailgate you all the time even when you're keeping pace with everyone but it's always there, our little dependable donkey, plodding away and keeping us mobile.

That's just it, since the MoT pass it's actually been fine, I think the tax or insurance lapsed which is why we took it off the road, then Mike put new insurance/tax on it when the Toyota was getting work done and we've used it ever since.  Nothing to put in the build thread about it because, well, it never needs anything.  It's just always there, and always works.  Now I'm using it I'm sure it'll develop a small but difficult to resolve problem that will leave me stranded at an inopportune moment.

That looks similar to what a sprayer mate of mine did . He had an insurance bumper job in and the guy was a right knob . He said " while the guns in your hand can you paint that rear 1/4"

So thats what my mate did - painted the bumper perfectly but literally blew paint over the 1/4. No prep what so ever .

Didn't someone on here have this happen a few weeks back and ended up with half a dozen switches from Maplins to get round the problem? Also doubt you can force the motor as it will be a worm like gearing to the seat mechanism.

Sounds familiar, I think it was on a Jag XF and replacement buttons were NLA or something.

I have ordered another spoiler for the audi. This one's coming from Latvia.

What that means is anybody's guess - I could end up with a relic from the space program or a cabbage.

Let's see.

Gratuitous pic of my glorious Fords. Cluttering up the street to my neighbours chagrin

There was an untaxed knackered focus at the end of the road the other day, neighbour came by and said 'I just wanted to check it wasn't yours:-)

In that colour you can see how the Mondeo evolved from the Sierra.  Tell us more.

In a rare twist, it looks like the insurance for my gf's Fiesta is going to be paying out more than I reckoned going by a quick check on Autotrader. Basically £600 on top of the agreed value on the policy and also what the market rate for one on Auto Trader. Not bad for a completely undesirable colour inside and out and inverse snobbery trim level (goodies on the inside, but no alloys or fogs).

She's put some money down on a newer one, did a little test drive of that, and feels much better about things now. When we saw the car last week after it had been recovered, it was even worse than we'd thought it was going to be. The crumple zones worked bloody well!

GKT The little blue van passed its MOT today, Picked up an advisory for rear brake adjustment but otherwise its a clean sheet,

Its really not been used much since I did the work on the interior, The MOT tester pointed out its only done 200 miles in the last year! with that in mind I'm thinking of putting it up for sale again, Looking £2500 for it but shitters discount would apply.

Heres a photo for anyone who'd forgotten about it...!

When I followed Mike I did notice it had the cornering ability of an ocean liner. Reminded me of a 2cv. Monumental body roll but still stuck to the road

Once again Autoshite ahs proved itself to be the BEST forum with the VERY BEST members anywhere on the internet. I have received so many things from different members over the last year, it's great to be a part of this even if only one of my cars is worthy (which one? you choose!).

Thanks to one and all.

Corners are not its strong point, mainly due to no ARB as standard.  We've been half-heartedly looking for one, it doesn't desperately need it but it would make it a little more pleasant to drive.  I wonder what it's like for back seat passengers.

What a lovely little thing (what is it?)

Fitted the new throttle cable to the BX. It's way nicer to drive now, so thanks to whoever it was that added that to the spares stash.

The car was 2yr 11mth old = 3yr Warranty/60K

I commented on POC forum "one minute you have a warranty, next minute you don't!

Today, I am mostly in Sussex where they have sunshine. I have a BX hydraulic pump for Barrett if anyone could let him know. He doesn't respond to Facebook messages it seems.

On the way down, I put Mrs DW's spotting skills to the test. This Saab 900 on the M25 was pretty good.

This Honda Civic in Burgess Hill more of a challenge. (8/10 for difficulty)

XM generally performed ok, though the indicator relay started randomly clicking briskly on occasion. BECAUSE FRENCH.

Had a late start yesterday so did some messing about, first job was to release the Uno from the garden.  Bin men had left recycling containers mid drive and turning it to miss them the drivers side front wheel had gone off the block paving into the garden.  The car wasn't going to move as it was grounded on the drive.  The trolley jack wouldn't get under it so I made use of the Y10 sill jack which actually has a picture of a 5 door uno on it!  Putting a couple of pavers under the wheel it was just a matter of gently reversing off.  Now I was paranoid about any damage I may have done, I thought I'd knackered the clutch as it stank and fluid was dripping onto the floor.  Turned out just to be water finding its way out of the scuttle having being parked at a silly angle in the rain.post-17396-0-80063500-1459965324_thumb.jpg

The Panda Selecta's light switch had gone faulty and wouldn't turn on lights at all, not helped I suspect by the last owner using higher wattage bulbs, the plastic connector on the back was discoloured and scorched.  I took the one I'd just replaced on the 4x4 off as it's erratic starting and running issues have put paid to daily use.

The Y10 got some love, I got hold of a couple of washer motors and fitted them, they work, at least they make the noise, but failed to pump any water to either screen.  I didn't keep them under load for long as I feared they might burn out.  I'm planning to get a small air line (not like Freddy Laker, the auto motive type) and will give them a blow out, though I'll replace the front line as it's not very long and the ends are split.

The earthing points are next to the water tank so I gave it a once over with a wire brush, tightened up the connectors and copper greased it, seemed appropriate to use as the "hedgehog" turned out to be copper once cleaned.

Finally today I fitted a power socket to the selecta, after market cigar lighters are too small for the hole under the blanking plate, I have a small collection of them as I kept buying them in the hope they would fit.  The power socket is threaded and a nut secures it at the back.  Great for keeping the phone on charge when used as a sat nav.  Oh and the Uno got a posh wiper!

SD1 visit paid. Completion has yet again been delayed, this time by a nasty incident a few weeks ago in which my mechanic set fire to himself while welding a Transit. Work looks set to start again in a couple of weeks once the injury/trauma has healed enough.

This car must radiate bad luck to all those who surround it.
