Yesterday I arranged to go to the Malvern Restoration Show with L_STERLING. Took the MGF because I'm really getting into it.

Work has a storage unit out in the CAMBS BADLANDS which makes my Stockport shack look like a right old pile of wank. Can't really show you what's in there because most of it doesn't belong to me, but the Charade is in there in while a potential buyer decides whether he wants it or not.

Arrived at L_STERLING's and I put the hood up because it was pumping down. On the way my Brum counterpart decides to 'fix' the cigarette lighter by breaking two of the locating tabs. The MGF needed a boost off a slave battery, and I decided to keep said 068 in the boot along with some industrial flavour jump leads. I thought it prudent to do so as there's some kind of electrical short which flattens the fart of a battery in a week and a half and my recovery place wouldn't add it to my list of rammle ('they're too much of a liablity and it's too old'). Needless to say, with the jettisoned adaptor and equipment sat waiting, we improvised a whole Autoshite charging system:

I stuffed my face with a Yorkie because despite my facial injuries I'm still fat and the food baby needs sating.

Reverse angle for consummate phone boosting.

Arrived at the grounds of the show and it was still humming down with wet. I sacked off the Halfords Mondeo 'MGF' letters because they looked a bit too attention-defecit-disorder for my tastes man. Next job will be to apply some WD40 to melt off the adhesive. NERT \ BORT sticker is also doing one.

The Malvern restoration show was soggy and hardcore, held in three cattle sheds. There were a few old cars milling around but this was by far the greatest specimen, rocking a quartet of Tipo wheel trims:

LOOK AT IT. LOOK AT IT!

As soon as we'd effed off we headed for the M5 and stopped in Great Malvern for a look round some expensive tat shops. View was bosting:

Tomorrow I'm picking up a shagged radiogram to as an ironic hipster workshop stereo. LIVING THE DREAM.

It even has a towbar bracket on the front for double shite collection.

Getting pretty fed up with Nissan's inability to book me a test drive with the Leaf..

Posted

EV forums seem to report that Nissan dealers can be a VERY mixed bunch. May pay to speak to a few.

In other news, I'm trying to plot some collection capers for a car I haven't bought yet.

What dealer are you speaking to?

Parks in EK was where i wanted to collect.so far no contact from them

I called and booked via the 899899 number on the website, but they apparently have no record of me-despite being able to call me back to see if i was still interested in arranging a test drive?

I wrote a quick blog piece and pointed them (politely) to it via twitter-initial response was rapid

Waiting to see if I hear from them at all

You can't book a 7 day test drive via the website you can only do it over the phone. I'm surprised they've not been in touch as there's big intensives for them to sell them.

I went to see this after work. The bodywork is RAF, way worse than it seems in the pictures. It was red but had a really shitey blow over and you can still see red through it in parts. There's filler on the door and roof that's been wobbed in and not sanded down. On the plus side it looks solid in all the right places. There's no carpets in it so you can see the floors have been welded but are solid. It was actually pretty quick but felt a bit chittery on corners because of the welded diff.

It was 1500 quid. I'm having a think, as it needs paint but the money involved doesn't justify it.

That's in Barrhead yeah? Our painter Wuz was trying to contact the fella to see if it was available. Oor Wuz's Manta is still not quite road ready...

It was in Paisley not far from the St Mirren ground.  I am tempted, just not sure if I want to pay 1500 for it.

The Volvo's fuel filler flap hinge finally broke this morning, after being cracked for nearly ten years. Luckily, a replacement only cost me £3.00 from PFS Parts :)

I now have no seats or carpets in the Xantia and I'm enjoying myself.  That plus the commonsense levelled at me on this here forum is making me waver in my resolve to sell.  Clearly I need a car that requires fiddling with on a regular basis to be happy, that and squishomatic seats.

I have arranged some collection capers for Thursday. The weather forecast is horrific rain. The car has an entire month of MOT and magazine reviews seem reluctant to give it more than two stars and are often very rude about it. Perfect!

The vehicle is not French. More than that, I'm not prepared to admit. It's a car I've never driven before though, so that rules the City Rover out. That and the fact that they really are quite dreadful...

I have to say, if I was anywhere near Essex, I might have been on that 3dr Astra estate like Elvis on a burger. Delicious, urgh, thankyouverymerch.

Scirocco updated;

After gently brushing a kerb last Thursday, it appears that my wishbone was a little dented.

Which in turn has lead to a minor re-style/fog light deletion at the front.

Not the end of the world then.

I am happy bunny once more!

Is that the one from Lascelles Gardens in Rochford?

Today the Merc went in for investigation/repair of leakages, ... someone has attempted repairs before which resulted in the rounding off of some bolts ...

Not guilty!

Small update on the daily Astra - new centre and back box ordered an delivered as the ones on the car are blowing like buggery. More expense, still it's a SHITZALL. Getting bored of it though and now fancy a mk5 Fiesta Zetec-S. Hmph.

The MK5 Zetec-S is much like the XR2 of the 90s, most have been raced, barry'd, smashed, stolen etc so you have to look carefully for a well cared for example, that Imperial Blue they come in looks GR9 tho.

Yes absolutely, there are a few but not many decent ones left. Most of the decent ones are commanding top coin. I would really like to de-barry one and make it completely original again and enjoy it, I think they're going to become a cult car in the future.
