Gt6 now classed as a historic vehicle and has its first tax disc since January 1980!

 

Meanwhile the felicia has blotted it's copy book already ( what was it they used to say about why a skoda had a heated rear window.....) by failing to start yesterday morning. I hurriedly swapped batteries about and it's been fine since! Duff battery or did I leave a light on or something? Haven't investigated properly yet.

It's an Eagle SS, they started off as a nova copy on a VW floorpan, but Eagle made 300 or so on their own chassis with ford running gear. It follows the same basic dimensions and outline of the VW floorpan, so I figure I can cobble my spare beetle shell onto it, and make a bug that is actually useable every day. It saves me a load of work and IVA hell as it's actually registered on a Q and has a V5

 

 

I'm thinking either an MX5 engine and box, or if I can find one at the right money Honda S2000. It'll be a long term thing but I can build my ultimate car

The other week we went to a bbq at swmbo's sister, and I got pissed and left the ZX at hers. When we went back to get it the next day she said the lights had been flashing and a little pip was sounding randomly from somewhere.

 

Thought no more of it, the PO said the alarm battery had gone flat so he unplugged it all and it was fine...

 

Coming out this morning, the headlights were flashing every second, in time with what I imagine would be the alarm sound, the red light by the clock wasnt flashing like mad though (it did it on the way home once, I imagined the alarm would be going off if it existed)

 

Anything I need to remove to stop it doing this? How intertwined would the alarm system be on an L reg ZX? Not fussed it it hasnt got an alarm at all, sometimes I dont even bother to lock it!

I have had my all voxhalls are shitttee ashtray for 4 years today in that time i have had to replace the battery in my key fob,a pair of wiper blade and some tyres.I carn't fault this little car 1.6 sport hatch in resale silver,40+mpg .It has passed every MOT without any advisories.Hopefully i'll get anther 4 years+ out of it.

I need to replace the clips that held the carpet up. They are circular with prongs so you can only push them on one way. Any idea what they are called?

 

Decided to definitely sell the Triumph as it is a step too far for me. Once I get the v5 I will get it up and advertised.

Hoping to collect the black 75 Connoissuer on Saturday, the owner has just had a new battery fitted last week before going away in it, and knocked it down to £650 as she needs it gone due to the arrival of a brand new Scoda Yeti today. Unless someone more local gets there first I cannot turn this down....Can I?

This happened on my 106 after I'd disconnected the battery to have it welded. Quick Google search and I fpund and disconnected the alarm control box from under the dash. Presumably this would be something similar.

On the pre-facelift Xantia you can delete the alarm by removing a fuse (17 I think), so the ZX might be the same. On the gopping facelift Xantia the alarm shares a fuse with other things so you can't remove it.

Had fun with the Young Gun Classics crowd today, including Angry Dicky who's Somerset has made it almost 500 miles so far this week, with just one condenser failure to contend with. He let me have a drive. It's marvellous!

 

Also caught up with M'Coli who's currently off cycling up our big 'test' hill from Shitfest again. And I got to drive an Anglia 105E for the first time. Not a bad day!

 

They're stopping in the camping field we used for Shitefest tonight, as they're plans have entirely gone out of the window. There's still a big patch of missing grass from Ed's inferno.

In a somewhat unexpected turn of events, both the 850 and the Montego have sold within 24 hours of each other; both are staying in the AS family too.

 

This means I am down to the 940 Classic, the Council Estate and the Cavalier SRi. I've not had this few cars in a very long time.

And....just 5 months after I took my 306 to the MOT and it dipped big time on the n/s/r inner wing, I finally went back to the garage to talk to them about it. It's going to cost £400 (£400!) to get it through the MOT, including the cam belt, tensioners and water pump change, and I cans till only use it as a van afterwards. 

If anyone wants a 306 rolling shell with 12 months MOT for £200 (it's a bit rough and will have to be used as a van) sing out, as the engine will live on in someone else's car, if things pan out ok.

 

Going to finally get the SAAB in for a new alternator and the engine sump breather replacing. The Vectra 'did that Vectra thing' again today and refused to start for a while. Left in an hour or so and it was fine. BECAUSE VAUXHALL.

 

The Kangoo is going to be pressed into service tomorrow, may have to fight against my will and buy a second hand, same colour tail gate for the Punto for ninety pissing quid (with no components or wiring!) which will grate quite a bit.

Talking of which, pretty sure the coolant temp sensor is the cause of one of the problems so will buy one and see what happens.

Thanks for the offer but I have found it they are Starlock fasteners - Issue is that they only seem to come in packs of 50 on ebay and I need 2

 

In other 405 news today the OSR brake keeps sticking on when using handbrake. The handbrake is at the top of its travel so I suspect the cables need renewing. The self adjuster is rusted to buggery as well so I think it is going to be a pig of a job.

I had a call from the seller of the ZX 3 days before I picked it up saying he was terribly sorry but the battery died, brand new one would be put on the next day... can't say I felt any sorrow about that!

 

I did the bounce test on the zx earlier, the rear has no spring in it at all, it didnt move. Front bounced around ok (as wellas I can remember a sprung car bouncing anyway) Think rear shocks will be next on the list after wheels and wing!

Make sure the rear wheels don't have OMG PINEAPPLE SCENE NEGATIVE CAMBER, otherwise the stiffness could be due to very borked trailing arm bearings (which are a proper bastard to change !).

Ah, it's a 405. It's a bit hard to see in the diagram so I'm not sure if it's what you're looking at (starlock?) but there's 2 of them and they're 35 pence each from Pug.

The stance seems good luckily, it had a low mileage rear beam fitted a few years ago, so hopefully I'll never have to worry about that*

Yes I imagine so, I didnt ask how much it was but all the paperwork and receipts are present. To conclude;

 

1 owner from new

Serviced annually from new (last done in March)

New clutch in July 2009

Slave and Master Cylinders replaced again in Oct 2013

All drive belts replaced Sept 2013

New Coil Springs April 2013

New Battery last week

MOT and Tax until March 2015

 

Due to being a near 3 hour trip to view I asked her to remove the oil cap and check for any mayo, but its described as being clean with just some dark brown oil ressidue on the inside of the cap 

 

Apparently, for £650 there is no one else interested and its been on trader and bay. Should be collecting it Saturday....

 

Seems there is not alot of love for these early 75's, I think they look much more classy than the later ones..
