I realise that on a scale of 1-10 in the stupidity stakes an elderly (1993) XJ40 would rate at about 627, but are they really shit? I've been offered one (on the blue) as a leveller for my 306 and I still look at back at an S3 4.2 I had with rose tinted glasses.

Seriously though, as Mr Bollocks says you'll struggle to sell it. If you can value it as a breaker and scrap metal (and I don't know what the Pug is worth) then it starts to make sense.

If those numbers add up in your head then it'll be really enjoyable for a few months.

The thing about the shit I've bought is true though. Unbelievable as it might sound, 95% of it was purchased in the fairly safe knowledge I could knock it out again and not lose out.

The Peugeot owes me absolutely nothing, but the value is in the fact of it's economy plus (full) test and (6 months) tax. I'm still using it daily and it's such a laugh to drive I might just keep it as a spare car.

From what I remember from the original advert it had a good history and it's previous owner had it for a while. I think the only thing that's not so great are the scabby bits.

After being prodded to do so for a few years, I've finally decided to have a stab at some motoring journalism. It's been a while since I did any writing in a professional type capacity, but we shall see what comes of it. I'm going to draft up a few mini articles and see how I go with it. Not overly thrilled with what I've written so far, but practice should make perfect.

Have got the opportunity to expand my business by taking on a workshop twice the size, it's 50ft wide and 105ft long,a deal has been negotiated and I'm buying new equipment and getting daft ideas about smart reception area,new doors etc, but.... So I'm sat there watching Bergerac on the Yesterday channel when the phone rings.

A local car dealer has taken a car in part exchange and did I want it.

Turns out to be a two lady owner from new (mother and daughter alledgedly) 70k miler 1.6 one legger.

It's taxed and tested for a couple of weeks,electric front windows,pas,central locking and a four speed auto 'box.

There is a bit of "can ya tell what it is,yet" on the tailgate with the wrong shade of blue and the nearside headlight

reflector is a bit iffy,oh and the radio doesn't seem to work.Apart from that it's a little cracker.

 

 

No heroic collection tales as I just paid my nextdoor neighbour to give me a hand.

Drove the car,ooh atleast five miles home.Started raining as I got home and my camera batteries died

so for now just the one photo.

MoT for the Princess is booked for Friday morning thanks to a shiny cheque arriving from Severn Trent Water for an overpayment on my account at the old house (not sure how that works). If I'm brutally honest, I'm expecting a fail but a fail sheet will at least let me know what to fix. I'll try not to crash this time.

aaaand already there's a problem. Their system can't find the car, even though she was MoT'd last year, so they don't know the braking weight. However, I can tell them that the kerbside weight is 1145kg, plus the 140kg allowance built in (ah, internet research for MoT stuff) means that's a total kerbside weight of 1284kg. I'm guessing that, in fact, is the braking weight they need to know. I get the distinct impression they don't normally deal with cars this old.

aaaaand that's the MoT cancelled before it's even begun. They won't do it without the full V5 so I can't book it in there until the V5 comes back from the DVLA. Why didn't I make a copy like I usually do? Dumbass.

What a load of hairy old shite, I have never produced an MOT or V5 for any of my old motors while MOT'ing them! I say find an MOT shop who are more interested.

I'll book it in further afield. I went for this place on recommendation and because they're on my doorstep, I'll go to the classic friendly place I know instead. It'll cost a bit more and it's about a 30-45 minute drive instead of 5 minutes, but at least he knows what he's doing and he knows the car.

I was going to say the same as the others VA, I've never produced a V5 for an MOT. To check the chassis number they can do that on the car when it's in front of them.
