In West Scotland a grainy photo of the lesser rusted SD1 out in the open has been spotted after a year in captivity.

MOT day tomorrow. I hope it passes.

Good luck, Cort, let us know how you get on.

Cheers, I'm not taking it in myself so I'll not know until later in the day so the wait will be torture.

When I moved the car I found a bit of the sill I replaced lieing under it. I'd kind of forgotten how bad it was.

Fingers crossed for your fresh ticket on the SD.

Only just managed to get last Fridays pics up on Pishbucket

Went for a rummage down the local scrappy on the hunt for Punto bits, only got the one sneaky shot as they can be a bit funny about photos in the yard

Really should of grabbed that Porker back box. Agro and Turdcel around the back in the depollution bay but far to many staff about to get pics. Blagged all the remaining Fiat bits to transform this;

My dodgy rattle can job on the bonnet hasn't stopped it finding a new home today for the princely sum of 300 sheets and a very ropey soon to be dog food tins k11 micra.

Halfords are doing a free screwdriver set worth £20 with any 5 litres of their own brand oil. So you get the oil for £4 if you want to put it that way. The screwdrivers are the ones with the lifetime guarantee.

2CV is booked in for the MOT next Tuesday. Before then, I've got to fit a new fog light (purchased), fit a new headlamp (knackered reflector. Hoping I've got a spare), make sure the sidelights work (crap connections) and grease all the greasy bits. One kingpin is a bit loose, but I think it should be ok. Advisory last year and it's not got any worse.

I was worried that the driver's floor would need work, but it actually seems pretty solid. I'm leaving a good few weeks until the MOT expires though, just in case. I could do with sorting out the ignition switch. I've currently got a Dyane ignition barrel sitting on the dashboard not attached to anything as the 2CV's barrel has seized. Sadly, Dyane barrels don't fit the 2CV but it does the trick as an interim fix. New barrels are £95. A start button and hidden ignition switch may be the way to go.

Literally just got back without half-an-hour to spare before going to wrok. Been at the garage all day helping out/waiting to have the front brake pads on the Micra changed. At least I can stop the Micra now without any grinding noises coming form the brakes.

The Rover's not getting MOT'd until tomorrow as they're busy today (it's not like I need it back). The guy who runs the garage at my lockup took it up but he got warned by the MOT station that even though it was booked in you can't run it on the road unless it's taxed, which it obviously isn't as it hasn't got an mot! Apparantly now you need to trailor it to the MOT station if it's not taxed. The MOT place is about 1/2 a mile from my lockup too!

I hope it passes or it's gonna be a ball ache getting it back up there.

Missus' Puglet 106 finally passed its MOT this morning, it needed new catalytic converter to get it through emissions. Bother.

What a load of cobblers eh? Probably some spotty teenager with nothing better to do than make shit up.

Where's he got that from? The directgov site still says you can drive to an MOT without tax as long as it's insured.

The MOT station told him that. They've been getting a lot of attention from plod for some reason. The police did one of their customers for parking her car on the street outside the mot station with no mot even though it was taxed and insured.

Posted

That all sounds very odd. Attending a pre-arranged MoT is pretty much the only cast iron excuse for not displaying tax!

Posted

As said earlier it clearly says on the directgov website

You can drive your vehicle to and from a pre-arranged test at an MOT test station as long as you have adequate insurance cover.

So I recon they'd have problems doing you for it.

Reading between the lines, perhaps this happened: Customer delivers car for MOT which it fails. Garage parks car on public highway for several days whilst awaiting parts. Dibble, who may or may not have an axe to grind with garage owner, prosecute customer for something that is not her fault.

Well the T2 is booked in for MOT on the 2nd April and is currently SORN - garage is about half a mile away and van is insured.

On another note - rattly tappety 944 - COMPLETELY cured by oil change, flush & additive.

Nice when a simple relatively cheap fix sorts something completely.

Sounds more plausible if a little careless of garage. You can drive untaxed/SORN'd to a pre arranged MOT as long as you have insurance. I drove the Micra across Birmingham passing a camera van aswell to my MOT station when it was still SORN'd but did have the correct insurance, never heard anything since.

At the garage I used to work at we had very limited space to keep any cars that were untaxed off the road so we would contact the customer to collect car as we had nowhere to keep it longer term, if it failed, the customer would come and take it, we'd order the parts and it would be back a few days later for MOT repairs and a new MOT.

Just come back from a tour of the Longbridge MG site. I say "site" more a couple of rooms inside the building and some history. Bloody place seems so 'secretive' we did get to see inside the development centre and a preview of the new MG3, but to be honest it all felt a bit 'meh' :|

I was wanting to see whats left of the layout of the actual site, corner to corner. It kind of left me feeling a bit disappointed.

Highlight of the tour was seeing some customised luxury Mini (original shape) with electric seats/sat nav/ plush carpet.

Got pics, but got to go to work soon so might upload them later.

The Rover failed. It needs front pads and a rear wheel bearing so not the end of the world. I've already ordered the bits.

The important bit is they didn't find any additional grot that I'd missed. Onwards -->

Fixed No.1 on the list (loooong) of things that the TR7 needs doing - clutch judder on take off.

Found lower slave cylinder bolt threads had pulled. Driiled, tapped and helicoiled = win. Judder 90% gone, unfortunately the engine mountings have took a pounding as has the pinion 'extension' on the diff. Ah well, one down, 2 added.

My ropey 190D went straight through the MOT!

Result! Might even treat her to 12 months tax...

The results after a busy afternoon cleaning by Trigger's Retro Road Tests!, on Flickr

Since my update on Tuesday I've been pretty busy with the Golf, I managed to get the repairs painted yesterday, I had a slight incident with the lacquer running annoyingly but that flatted out with some 1200 w&d paper, then today i went over the car with my new polishing mop, which could well be the best thing I've bought for ages!.

The old paintwork wasn't great, it was very matt with lots of scratches, Well a few hours with the mop has totally transformed the car, most of the scratches have gone and it has a real deep shine again, It looks really good for a 18 year old car now!.

Tomorrow I'll refit the grill as I removed it to paint it today as it was stone chipped and it will be fine!.

Looks really clean that Trig, these mop things are brilliant.

Today's mostly boring news:

New Chinsheng Akido Biskitwank tyre has arrived for the Corsa, all being well my lad will fit it at work tomorrow. Cba with a part worn as they're fairly hard to find (195/45/16) and either stupidly expensive or knackered.

Drop links also arrived for the Aldi, just under £12.00 for the pair with postage. Once fitted that's another MOT job done, now just needs number plate bulb, maybe a tyre or two and the sodding diesel pump gaskets which a local specialist keep telling me will be here any day and aren't. It'll never pass the test pissing out veg oil all over the shop.

Merc: continues to waft me round like a wafty thing and I get more pleasure out of just occasional use than anything as it's nice to drive after other shit in the fleet.

Lad's Frontender: upon hearing how we're desperately short of money at the moment, he's very kindly said we can flog his car to tide us through. Nice gesture of him so once (if ever) we get back on the straight and narrow I'll try and pay his car insurance once he's sat his test.

Reality has bitten I'm afraid and if the Frontera goes the Merc might follow as being down to just two cars will help the financial situation. The Corsa's cheap to run and the Aldi likes veg oil so it's a no brainer to keep them and sell the others.

Ths rather pisses on my plans to buy another old Transit recovery truck at the moment but we'll see what the future holds on that one.
