Had my Covid jag today, the AstraZeneca one.

Felt OK during the day but now I feel achy, skin is super sensitive and I'm generally buckled.

Hope my weekend isn't scuppered as I really wanted to swap the wheels out on the Cavalier.

If it's any use to you I was buckled to after my first AZ microchip. Was fine after a sleep, next day I was just a bit achey but fine

I think you’ll be perfect again in 24hours. Same symptoms here but ok after apart from a continuing cough.

Before all this COVID shenanigans kicked off I was looking for a small car. A teeny tiny engined car with a Bader box & A/C. There were a few about, they were all Japanese, all three pot & all either rotten at the back end of the sills or they'd had their sills patched up. Then lockdown occurred and the looking slowed and I thought that I'd really be much happier keeping the cheapest car I have ever owned. I've had this Scirocco for more than ten years, it's cost me just short of fuck all over that period, so I thought it was time to show it some love. The replacement £50 Weber was worn beyond redemption so I bought it a new one and then had a new cam/auxiliary belt and also the cam timing tweaked, the car tuned properly, the fuel lines renewed and the brakes rebuilt. Today I've changed something that's been pissing me off for a decade & something that folk can see.

Saw my first HubNut sticker in the wild on the road today. I overtook a lightly modded red C15 van on the M25, then the C15 accelerated level with me and gave me a wave! I have found a lot of people grin when they see the BX.

I have just found out that all the tourists visiting the Isle of Sodor bringing their cars by Motorail have MK1 Escorts!

Thomas doesn't like Mk1 escorts, Harry Potter never cared for Vectra estates much apparently.

The New Zealand Dept. of Conservation (aka the saviors of the planet) have purchased an ev for use on Stewart Island. They have nowhere to charge it so use a diesel generator for the job.

I took the Focus to a diesel specialist last week to get the rough idle and lack of power checked out. Got a call Thursday to say they couldn’t find the issue and that I could collect it yesterday.

Went down, paid my bill and waited for the chap to bring it out to me. Take a look round the corner after a few minutes and he’s in there trying to start it. It kept firing then dying.

Eventually he gets it running and it’s just kicking out endless smoke. I go over to see what’s going on and he explains “it’s been doing this” pointing to the dash all my warning lights are on.

Previously it was just running rough, it didn’t have any of these issues! I went back into the office to speak to them about it and they were adamant that it came in with those problems. Not sure how I would have driven it there. I left it with them for now. Either they’ll fix it and I won’t be paying the bill or they’ll decide it’s doublefucked anyway.

Thinking about it overnight, they charged me for checking out my injectors, they wouldn’t have done that if it had been presenting all these electrical problems, they’d have just called me to collect it. So either they charged me for something they knew I didn’t need, or these electrical issues started while they were working on it.

They look a bit small - is that the diameter, or the tyre profile?

Haven't a clue, those were just the tyres that came on them. It's not moving from my garage any time soon so I don't have to look at them.

I think I've found the cause of last week's FTP at the Shiteisteddfod.

The two lower posts in the dizzy cap have worn away to almost nothing. I'll replace it and the rotor arm but I'm left wondering what's caused such uneven wear. Is it just the effect of gravity (those two posts are orientated at the bottom of the cap when it's in place) or does it point to a more serious issue with the distributor drive? Would folks advise I replace just the cap and arm or should I replace the whole distributor? I guess I could replace just the cap and arm for now and see if it happens again although the cap doesn't look that old so maybe this has happened before?

After cleaning everything up with contact cleaner and an old toothbrush I put it all back together so I won't lose anything while I wait for parts to arrive. Having got that far I thought I might as well try and start it and to my surprise and delight it fired straight up and sounds like it's running ok.

Given how worn those contacts are I guess it wouldn't have taken much moisture getting into the dizzy cap to cause  the engine not to start.

After a week of phoning round, a very nice bloke from the mg6 owners club (yes, that's a thing!) dropped me off a used full passenger side strut and spring assembly along with 2 genuine SAIC air filters, 2 rear coil springs and 2 rover 75 droplinks (they fit a 6 but need about 5mm taking off the top to clear the spring cup.).

IMG_20210515_115617.thumb.jpg.d8d9d7fd718ad5426c814cea0045d976.jpg

All for the princely sum of £50. The job is a total twat for me to do at the roadside, but I've got a mobile mechanic coming on Monday to swap the strut over for another £60. Then it's a replacement tyre and it's roadworthy again.

Until then, it's doing it's 3 legged dog impression on axle stands, cos the wheel won't fit back over the broken spring. IMG-20210515-WA0003.thumb.jpeg.ce499b1411e515d3573b11bd89c52228.jpeg

Bluebell Woods are so fucking pretty! Simple pleasures are the best. The sight and smell are so good for the soul. Birdsong and a stream provided a perfect soundtrack for our visit today. 😍😍😍

They do look English, but I’ll check

fancyfreewalks.org.uk  does mention which walks are bluebell ones.

Both my sister ( oxford) and mum ( north wales ) have loads of bluebells in their gardens, but only Spanish ones. I have lots of English ones in the park here, and on the bridlepath on my commute.
