Is coupe "styled"  a hint that it's not really a coupe? 

3 door Saab 9-3? Ford Cougar? A few left field options.

Interestingly, a mechanic who knows these cars (worked at a dealer and actually performed warranty work on my car back in 1996) told me that it's a good idea to replace spark plugs every 7-10 k km. Interestingly, that's also the realistic interval between valve adjustments. Welcome to proper 60's motoring in 1995.

Does this have a lambda sensor?

If so I ran into an interesting problem with one on my Lada.  There was no local ground for the signal line in the ECU, relying on the sensor being grounded through the case (despite being a four wire one, so it looking like there should be no need for it).  This wasn't a problem with the original AC Delco AC97 sensors...but they've been unobtainable for ages.  The modern Bosch etc replacements which on paper should be compatible obviously don't work though as the sensor is fully isolated from the case.

I chased this problem around for several weeks before connecting the signal ground for the oxygen sensor in parallel with the throttle position/coolant sensor signal ground pin at the ECU.  Problem immediately completely rectified.

Just figuring they might have used a similar system so it was worth mentioning.

Have not considered this to be honest. I'll make sure to investigate.

Was your Lads throwing a check engine (or equivalent light) through all this?

DW car parks were damn near full by 1pm on Monday. We went down by train and had a meal at the pub at the top of the hill, fantastic views, meal not so fantastic.

Temperature sensor split, thus pissing coolant everywhere. Walking to the motor factors now to pick up a replacement.

Traded the ungrateful BX  against another Saab---2004 9-5  2 litre petrol auto with a *slight*upgrade and lots of history,91000 miles and bought from a fastidious previous owner.

Yep.  The error it was showing was error 31, no oxygen sensor signal.  Basically because there was a +1.3V offset on the signal because the ground was floating.

And fin. So the background to this purchase,  I posted a thread a month or so ago looking for a car for my in laws, they hummed and hawed over the few I sent to them, then last week they phoned to say they were going to buy a 63 plate Peugeot 208 from Arnold Clark for 5.5 fuggin grand. My wife offered them her own higher spec lower mile 208 for half the price. They snapped her hand off for it, she now has my Saab 9-3 floppytop which left me needing some wheels. I wanted something similar to the Saab, Nice comfy auto with a bit of grunt for cruising to work.

This thing ticks all the boxes. That trip home was genuinely one of the comfiest drives I’ve ever had ! Seats are mega comfortable, air con ice cold , sound system is unbelievable as well. Cruise on and point towards Scotland.

These are great aren't they? I had a shot of my Cousin's hubby's convertible one and it was so light and smooth to drive.

These have aged like wine as well, unlike an E46 which has aged like milk.

Thanks,i was a bit aprehensive about buying it blind,but the dealer gave me the previous owners phone number and after a couple of lengthy phone conversations about the car i agreed to buy it,it was delivered today on a transporter and he took the ungrateful BX away as a part exchange,i was most surprised that he did!

today has been my 46th birthday.

to celebrate i have spent a good part of the day rolling around on the floor getting filthy doing a service on the black mini 1000.

changed the oil and filter, 

after first wrangling the grille off to get some access, then greased up the suspension points and adjusted up the brakes.

it took far longer than i had thought it would, due in no small part to me been unable to find any bloody tool at the first try.

see, kerry has been buggering about with the metro that has been in bits in the garage for some time. 

and kerry doesn't put anything away when she is finished with it.basically it seems to be dropped on the floor, and there it stays,so when i want something, oddly enough its not where it is SUPPOSED to be. that gets very boring after the second or third time of trying,to fond something,

well, eventually we got the car sorted, serviced, cleaned up and then put away,cos the weather forecast for the weekend is crap.

so i did take the chance to snap this along with mine.

i've seen it around town a couple of times, and its nice to see another unmolested and none cooperised mini around on the road.
