Omega sold but not yet collected. Various caper plans floating around. Danger!

Finally sorted the many many leaks my old 75 has. Prototype/ preproduction development work finally completed by my good self. Production models are known for it but mine had water getting in through body Seams, bulkhead wiring grommets, trim fixings, boot hinge mounts, screen surround fixings, d pillar fixings, roof to body side flanges, rear 1/4 to rear deck seams, the usual bulkhead/ pollen filter thing....... ummm I think that's a complete list. In celebration, and after refitting the interior AGAIN, I took it for a late evening drive.....

In other MG Rover news, I shunted the mg Express around so I can apply its sign writing for the Pride Of Longbridge this coming weekend. I took inspiration from the publicity stunt that x part did in 2003. They took delivery of one as part of their 'parts guarantee' in theory to allow components to be fast tracked from source to the supplying dealer (presumably a normal van simply wasn't fast enough to deal with headgasket bulk orders?) Anyway here's a pic....

post-4673-0-96520300-1491734074_thumb.png

Now my van is trophy blue rather than the dark grey, which excuses it from being a faithful replica from the off, its more of a tribute I guess. Basically I took, as they did, the genuine parts logo and after a bit of fiddling I've got a set of vinyl graphics made up as a loose reinterpretation of the factory delivery hack.....

Excuse my 'initial ideas' scribble but I should be able to take a pic of the real thing sometime this week

Quick fleet update,

Vectra 1.9cdti not boosting at all, googley moogley indicates seized turbo. Annoying as the morning it went is the same morning it's four new kuhmos got delivered.

Mx5 now has mot, i had to gaffer tape up the sharp edges on the rear arches and fiddle with the handbrake. Body is as rough as a bears arse, but mechanically is sweet (i've just jinxed it now).

I got up nice and early, and took the 2CV out for a run. Amazingly, the battery has held charge since it was last used (Monday) so, perhaps it's not as shagged as I thought.

My destination was a little village nearby, where this happy scene greeted me.

A BX TXD automatic. Speedy! Only 55k on the clock though. I've seen it around loads, but never knew where it lived. Now I do.

But, this is what we were there to play with - my friend's 1909 Briton - a twin-cylinder known as the Little Briton. No, really!

Suspension issues were overcome, and then we could fire it up.

Video one. Cranking!

Video 2. Semi-naked man and exposed valvegear!

Indeed they are! I think the only thing I've driven which compares in calendar 0-60 times is a Volvo 340 diesel.

been to Shildon for the vintage vehicle day with the Mini.

many cars on show, favourite of mine been the white frog-eyed sprite on wires,

i'd have been looking for some original steelies and hubcaps if it were mine, but as it isn't, then that don't matter.

weather was nice sunny and warm, though its come in cloudy and colder now......

oh, and no pics as the batteries in the camera were flat!!!

Had my first proper ride out of the year on the Fusion. On the way home we hit a pheasant while doing 60mph... the hapless bird bought the farm, but no damage to rider or machine!

We went along too,The Paul Smith mini was a little honey and the Rover coupe.

But,but did you see the Astra 3 door estate in the car park?

Posted

yes we did, terracotta (or poop brown if you prefer) brown, i've not seen that colour, or even a mark 1 ashtray since, well forever!

i didn't know the Paul Smith Mini was available in black, i wonder if that was just a Japanese thing as all the ones i've seen here in the UK have been that rather nice blue.

the 6000-odd mile mark 2 Escort Popular Plus was a real, cheap boggo spec survivior. and was much more to my taste instead of another flippin' Mexico!

other highlights included the mark 1 capri 3000S, and not one, or two, but 4!! Ford Probe's!

and just along from where we parked up in the car park, there was a really mint and shiny little mini van. still on 10 inch wheels which hubcaps (but recaro type seats fitted) it was spotless, and lush.

we had hoped to use the Metro this weekend. having had a trial getting the car taxed (the computer said it doesn't exist) we then found that the car didn't want to go. it started fine, BUT when we got it off the drive, it coughed, spluttered and then died. and it wouldn't then  start back up.

so it was pushed back onto the drive. kerry thinks its stale fuel or a blockage in the carb, so i'm hoping its not a big (expensive?) fix buy it means that we get to take the mini out to play, if the metro won't co-operate.

Yep 4 probes not to sure about the black wrapped one?

The Paul Smith mini had Japan sticker on the back. The mini van was it up for sale for 6k?

Now if you had,had a Autoshite sticker on the back of the car I would have said hello.

the dead give-away on the black paul smith mini was the air conditioning fitted. that was a japan only item fitted at the factory.

there were 2 mini vans in the car park, the green one which was up for sale at £6k, which didn't seem that out of the way for a mini-van in the condition it was in. rhw other mini van, that we were parked next to was a blue one. and that was spotless too!

Shuffled down the A19, through the tunnel, to York in ToMM©. Brunch at Tesco on the ring road.

Attempted to find 'affordable parking' for NRM.. fail :(

Went to Shopping Village on the Hull road.

Came home.

£30=5 gals/200 miles (scenic route) @ 40mpg.

We can live with this..... ;)

the trick with parking for the NRM is to park at Rawcliff Park and Ride where the A19 meets the A1237? outer ring road.

it is i think £3 return to get the bus into town while parking all day is free, the bus that stops right outside the NRM!

I had a run down to Harewood Hillclimb in the Merc 300SE, perhaps one of it's last trips as the previous owner has made interested noises about it now it's a going concern.

The hillclimb was a good varied mix, Gould GR55s, 1961 E type, Lotus and TVRs etc with oddities like a Volvo 940 estate and a Nissan Leaf.

Came home in time to watch F1 after meeting a Frenchman trying to drive the wrong way on the A1M/A58 slip road and a Vauxhall Ampere coming out of the Woodside Cafe and expecting the 70mph traffic to scatter to accomodate him.....

Totally agree M8. I used to park in York, on job call outs, but not for a long time in a bay. The bttds won't let you park for 3hrs on a street meter (until after 3pm!) Need 3hr to do a 'proper walk to/DOit/walk back'.....

Picked this S40 up over the weekend, it's going to be my daily. It's only a 1.6 petrol but it's pretty nice to drive. Slightly tatty in places but I'm fairly impressed!

Of course it has issues, drivers rear door is deadlocked and won't open no matter what, also the gearbox has a whine on the overrun. I think it's the diff. I topped up the oil and it ate over a litre so there's obviously a leak somewhere. I think these boxes really the same as Mk2 Focuses and seem to be mega cheap to get hold of so it's no big disaster to replace it.

Is 12 years old classed as shite? I hope so.

Love the graphics for the express van, but not too sure about the spoon at the bottom.

People who only buy on Ebay and don't sell will automatically have 100% positive feedback, because you can't leave negative feedback for buyers, only for sellers!

Just had to make a tricky decision on the Camry. It’s at the garage and they’ve started to fit all my bits. However, to do the clutch the engine is going to have to come out. It’s either that or drop the subframe, which sounds like grief as well. At least that will make it easier for them to do the cam belt/tensioner/water pump it ideally needs too.

Just hope the final bill doesn’t make me add a rare post on the grump thread…..
