I don't do mint usually but I've acquired a brilliant wet and dry vac to keep the interiors of the cars in mint condition...

My granny used to say, "It's no loss, whit a freen' gets."

Corsa 122 tyres, I have a pair of brand new ones on the front of the Rover because I needed cheap tyres fast.  They are okay in the dry, stop well in the wet but my goodness they offer zero cornering confidence if the road is even slightly damp!  The car just ends up feeling twitchy on the front end so I end up backing right off until I'm so slow people behind get impatient.  They also offer very little confidence on a very, very wet road like the one we were on today.

Verdict:  I need better tyres.

Not on a RWD car it isn't.

I would want to try it in a small-chassis Triumph...

The 214 has Corsa 65's fitted, which are pretty bad in the wet

They do like to squeal a bit when "making progress"

Another reason to get some new rubber fitted I reckon..

FOAD, buy the knacker 505; it's the only only one with a proper engine. Also £950 sounds fair for the 240.

That's amusing, as I had a tail-out moment in an XJS myself earlier today. VERY wet roundabout, some momentum plus remarkably good low down torque characteristics and too heavy (perhaps deliberately) a boot. I kept the throttle on, caught it one way, then caught it the other and was away safe and sound with only slightly tortured buttocks. All below 30mph I reckon.

My take on it is that a lift as it started to slide would cause even more slide, because you're moving weight away from the skidding wheels. Sure, too much throttle will make things worse too, which is why I kept my foot pretty much where it was.

Just back from three days of off-roading with some other panda 4x4 enthusiasts fetishishers, much good fun and went up and down a challenging bit of yorkshire dales rockery.  Commuting to the event was maybe a daft idea (200 miles a day) but given that fog and rain encapsulated the camp site all weekend I reckon I have spent less time driving than being miserable in a tent.

there's loads more to see at the bus museum, they only have the one hall open when there is an event on. I'll definitely be making a return visit someday, just not for the trucks

I hate to shatter your fantasy but Big Winny is a big bloke called Greg Winn.

My thoughts exactly, balanced throttle, steer out of the slide and effortlessly waft down the street leaving people aghast like you have channeled the spirit of Senna.

What confuses me us the way the jag behaved differently from any other car/van/truck I've driven that gets a bit tail happy. And I like tail happy. It was like being on ice and I was just a passenger.

The back end came round to about 4 o'clock than swung back clockwise to about 11 before the waltzer ride was over. Maybe the weight distribution is very nose heavy on the 6 litre.

After Dad's heart rate returned to normal - his pace maker must have working overtime - he told me how the previous owner had gone to the bother of emailing him at the time of purchase to tell him he had done a 360 while joining a motorway in damp conditions.

Makes me want to take it out onto a skid pan (deserted car park on a wet Sunday morning) and make it happen again.

Sounds like you over-corrected, as I did, hence the tail wag. I can't claim to be an expert by any means - I rarely drive RWD stuff. I do seem to have a habit of gathering things back up in them though thankfully! I did harbour a dream of turning the XJS into a drift machine. Not sure the owner of the car shared my enthusiasm...

Not sure folk thought I was a reincarnated Senna though. I reckon it looked utterly rubbish from the outside!

MM, it looks like a mini eddy is kicking you in the arse :-D

Is it just me or do the young chaps in the fiesta in the background look a bit confused as to what's occuring?!

During the winter I noticed that there were a lot more cars in fields than I remembered seeing in previous years. That trend has continued into the summer, at least three cars have landed in houses locally in the past week alone. It makes me wonder if something has gone wrong with tyres and / or road surfaces.

I reckon two things.

1) People pay no f*cking attention. The number of people I see quite obviously checking/texting on phones is just ridiculous. Perhaps if we actually had Police on patrol, they'd be less tempted to do so.

2) No-one pays any attention to tyre condition/pressures these days, which I guess is why the EU felt the need to go down the compulsory tyre monitor route.

I've got the panda in getting the work done for the mot. Ive got 2 2nd hand from struts for it and the exhaust had about a kilo of mig wire around the down pipe and it was still leaking! He's managed to cut it off and is going to weld a new bit in. Quite excited to get it back now I've commited to it. I'm going to sell my juke soon so I think I'll use this for daily duties for a bit until I get something else.

I'm 50/50 on it at the moment. It will be motd this week and is in reasonable condition. Its an auto which isn't an issue.

Anyone know what they are like to own?

I like them, much fun to be had enjoying their inability to put the power down.

Personally I prefer the TDi estate. It's more fun for half the fuel costs.

You're having to ask whether to get a T5?

Hand in your petrolhead card at the door. :P
