There is a fuse that has both the starter motor and the air con panel on it, at least on Phase 2 with climate. I can't remember which one atm, but one in the fuse box on nearside end of dash.

Edit; also reversing lights on same fuse

Have you got the proper Renault wiring diagrams for these? If not, I may be able to dig something out.

As far as I understand it, all you need is a spark and a gallon of optimax..

Seriously though, that would be grand cheers.

Ah sweet sweet memories, the Vel satis would fail to engage drive on its gearbox due to the poor connection of the rear light bulb...

I'd run with an earth issue. I had an r8 rover with bust earth and lost driver side electric windows, sunroof, alt light was on and fan didn't work.

Fuse F3 on main fuse box (however this is phase 2 Clio so could be different) worth a check. It says 15A in handbook, but was actually 20A in the car.

I now have tea.

Rear calipers binding, car is parked on mud.

In for the night.

Symptoms as follows:

Car gives full dash lights, and relay clocks but starter doesn't engage.

Blower and heated rear screen not working.

Have checked all Fuses, tried lead engine to chassis, no dice.

It will cough if bumped (can't get up enough speed in 3 car lengths).

Suspect an issue at starter.

I hope you don't need to change the starter cos it's a bit of an arse to get to. Mine didn't have the heat shield that goes between the starter and exhaust manifold as they are very close together, wonder if yours has lost it sometime in it's life, that would shorten the life of the starter considerably.

If it's anything like the smaller engine'd Clio's theres a rats nest of small earth wires down under the battery around the relay box.,which rot out. Cause all sorts of weirdness. -Blower and HRW relays are here, as well as he main relay.

Or ign switch...

Today. Was. The. Day

Up early, having arranged to work from home.

Called RAC.

Waited,

Waited some more

RAC arrived and checked it all out. Starter motor not playing ball even when contacts powered directly.

Fucksocks.

Called up one starter motor place ,"leave it with me 10 mins"

Call back 12 mins later.

"Ah've no got tae it yet"

Phone second starter motor place "£120 supplied and fitted plus a year guarantee"

Says I, "when could you do the work?"

Says he, "bring it roon ranoo"

We bump start it and I drop it off.

20mims later get a call from an employee there to see if I wanted to sell the car. Say "No".

Call a couple of hours later (just to see if it would be tomorrow as have borrowed parent_touring's CRV)

"We've got the motor off, it's burned out - looks as if it has stuck on. We're finding the correct motor for you now, as yours is a 9tooth, not the usual 11tooth. We'll also check the ignition wiring to make sure nothing is shorting out."

"Ok, cheers" says I.

Some hours pass.

Brrring brrring "Hullo, ats yer wee Clio ready mate, nae wiring faults fun"

I telephone a taxi.

A Civic EP2 diesel turns up.

"Ah took this Tae the Ross Auto for a starter on Friday err, thems guid cunts" said the driver.

I smile, nodding and grunting as appropriate. Pay my fare.

Go intae the shop, boy says "ahh, the auld heid came in useful err, ah says Tae them, if it's a 9 tooth, it's a Bosch motor, they walloped wan in and away she goes"

I count out 6 twenties and wait until my hand written invoice is produced.

Keys are proffered and accepted.

Plipper plipped, door opened.

Seatbelt on, key to start.

The f4r barks to life.

Select reverse, align car with exit.

Select first.

Go.

Like.

Fuck.

Sometimes its worth just flinging it into a garage because life has to go on. I did this with the Megane when the brakes were binding. It was December, I was busy at work, family, and the garage had the Corsa in it, unable to move. Well worth it, hassle free.

Glad its sorted again!

Also a diesel EP2 would be an EP4 and both are 3 door cars - despite being a taxi? Confused.

It was Japanese, and 5 door with the shifter in the dash..

Any advances?

Got a bit of a swatch at this whilst up working on the Toledo..

It's crapped the rear exhaust mount..

post-17572-0-99141700-1518275170_thumb.jpg

Of which I have a couple spare

But there were two pieces of good news!

Firstly,

The centre section flange (snigger) for joining to the back box is in good condition.

This should make it less challenging to sort the exhaust.

Secondly, the correct fusebox cover was found in the spare wheel well?!

Now refitted.

Additionally, I discovered that the intake pipe onto the throttle body wasn't fitted properly - so was drawing in unmetered air and causing the wobbly idle and annoying 'snagging' of revs the car has had.

This likely happened when we swapped all the ignition parts over - a swift loosen of a jubilee clip, some shoogling and a retighten dun the job.
