MarvinsMom Posted November 19, 2017 Posted November 19, 2017 love seeing some progress on this, and would love to see it sign written up again as a builders van! trigger 1
Eddie Honda Posted November 19, 2017 Posted November 19, 2017 decked out in the right font on a magnetic sign ^^^^ This. Whilst it nice to be all liveried up for shows, it may annoy the tits off you being asked for quotes mk2_craig, uk_senator, greengartside and 1 other 4
mk2_craig Posted November 19, 2017 Posted November 19, 2017 Is there some way of "amplifying" the ghost of the old lettering, steam on the panel maybe? Got to admit I have no idea what I'm talking about though.
NorfolkNWeigh Posted November 19, 2017 Posted November 19, 2017 Don't even think about changing those wheels or the fat rally car tyres , just get the same on the front, it looks great. Vince70, oldcars, Dick Cheeseburger and 1 other 4
flat4alfa Posted November 19, 2017 Posted November 19, 2017 The original business owner is probably 130 years old and it would give them a heart attack! In the current climate of lawyers finding historical problems to chase, I'd rather not put myself in the position of having to argue in court that I am not related to that builder that might* have stuffed-up a bunch of Clacton house extensions back in 1985. Or the historical injury lawyers either. Just a thought... You don't know what might come out of the woodwork. Or brickwork. Or blockwork, even. Flat roofs can go hang too. Gits.

trigger Posted November 19, 2017 Author Posted November 19, 2017 Right I need to put something down on the front inside footwell, where the passenger sides been plated it's quite tinny, I'm going to paint it with Zinc 182 and then gloss black but I'm thinking of some kind of sticky bitumen sound deadening to stick over it before the rubber mat goes back down. Anybody got any recommendations or eBay links. I don't want to start spending lots of money. Thanks.
DodgeRover Posted November 19, 2017 Posted November 19, 2017 Flashband roofing stuff (basically stick on lead) great for sound deadening. uk_senator and trigger 2
Guest Hooli Posted November 19, 2017 Posted November 19, 2017 Flashband roofing stuff (basically stick on lead) great for sound deadening. I recall years ago people I knew in to silly loud stereo installs used to by expensive shite called 'dynamat' it looked exactly like this. Nicola H and trigger 2
trigger Posted November 20, 2017 Author Posted November 20, 2017 Filler work on the offside mostly done. I hate filler work as I know have black bogies. Got a coat of Zinc 182 on the footwell too and got some flashback tape on order with B&Q, also spent £63 on 4 cans of mixed paint. mat_the_cat, Skizzer, greengartside and 33 others 36
mk2_craig Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 You don't hang about! That's probably more bodywork than it's ever had. oldcars, trigger and Rusty_Rocket 3

eddyramrod Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 I'm proud of you, Trig. Excellent work! trigger 1
danthecapriman Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 Brilliant work trig, coming along really well already. I'd keep the original wheels personally, but if you really want to upgrade my pick would be Marina T/C wheels. Morris Marina TC by Opel Fruits, on Flickr Great looking wheel imho! uk_senator, Vince70, purplebargeken and 8 others 11
trigger Posted November 20, 2017 Author Posted November 20, 2017 Sadly they don't fit as it has the wrong offset, these take MGB wheels apparently as it's the heavy weight version but thanks for the kind words! eddyramrod and danthecapriman 2
danthecapriman Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 Sadly they don't fit as it has the wrong offset, these take MGB wheels apparently as it's the heavy weight version but thanks for the kind words!Makes sense. I think the Ford P100 is similar in that respect. Looks like a Cortina/Sierra but has more in common with a Transit in respect to wheels, axles etc. Shame, as they'd look good on your van!
SiC Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 I wonder if MGB rostyles would looks ok if they're painted all silver.
trigger Posted November 20, 2017 Author Posted November 20, 2017 I was offered a set of them with tyres for £100 but I don't think they will suit it. I'll probably just paint the original wheels silver and bung some part worns on it. Sir Snipes, Dick Cheeseburger, Louise2cv and 4 others 7
cort16 Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 I bought a load of these self adhesive pads for the cortina . junkyarddog Posted November 20, 2017 Posted November 20, 2017 Excellent progress, Not really a fan of BL tat in general, but this van is ace, fantastic survivor trigger 1
oldcars Posted November 21, 2017 Posted November 21, 2017 Clacton 813181 is now Robert Wong Photography so you might have to avoid that by using another number. How about the Sex Shop on 221300. Its on Orwell Road in case you want to pop in.Class, you wanted a builder but got a photography shop because you got the wong number...................... uk_senator, trigger and Eddie Honda 3
trigger Posted November 21, 2017 Author Posted November 21, 2017 A little more done this afternoon, I finished off a little bit of the filler work and gave the shiney bits a rub with the red scotchy pad ready for primer, got some etch on then 3 coats of high build primer. It's not perfect, especially as the first can of U-Pol primer came out the can with so much power that it ran a little but all things considered I'm happy. Proper job with the newspaper! I'll be mopping the van afterwards hence why I haven't worried about sheeting it all up yet. Angrydicky, danthecapriman, NorfolkNWeigh and 21 others 24

trigger Posted November 21, 2017 Author Posted November 21, 2017 That's too luxurious for AR, I have carpet for starters! Hopefully tomorrows job will be to flat the primer back and get some stone chip on the sills and along the bottom of the wing/rear 1/4 bottoms to protect them a little before paint later on in the week. oldcars 1
wuvvum Posted November 21, 2017 Posted November 21, 2017 At this rate it'll be on the road by Christmas. M'coli 1
HMC Posted November 21, 2017 Posted November 21, 2017 Great progress! I Remember a few around my neighbourhood in the late 1980s motoring round with paint exactly like that last pic.
Skut Posted November 21, 2017 Posted November 21, 2017 I love the wheels on this. It may partly be the tyres and MGB axle but they seem to fill out the arches much better than the standard saloon and coupe wheels. trigger 1
