Tape line is the clue. Left.

Edit: or it's a trap!

It's been damned useful, but has also eaten a few wheelbearings and been sat for months.  Had a cambelt, driveshafts and fluids this week and will hopefully be back on the road shortly.

Love it.  Was expecting the engine to be terminal but it's so far proven to be the best 1.4 205 I've ever owned.

What a thing.  It's supposed to be for sale but I'm not trying very hard because it's actually really useful as well as a lovely place to be.

Nice gaff Comrade, Lenin would be proud.

I've also just realised that the Bx is Bleriot 😂

Bloody back windows are leaking in.  Got them both undercover, will use the range rover for a week or so.

Any interest in more houseshite type posts?

I think I got to the point where we sanded the whole floor, and had put on two coats of Osmo.

Now I need to put the kitchen back.

Always check the instructions, as well as the measurements..  fucksake.  It's not too obvious now and I'm hoping I've gotten away with it

Anyway, got some cabinets in. Worktop fitted and joined.  Sink plumbed in and siliconed in.  Just put the dishwasher back in the room at lunchtime.

Waiting on another cabinet and doors which was supposed to arrive on Sunday.  Also need to extend to T&G up to the tiles behind the cooker (yes, that would have been easier before fitting the kitchen..PXL_20251209_124754197_MP.jpg.61e71ddb6bd7082ddc11c298982f23c3.jpg

Getting some eggshell matched up to the doors to repaint the green timber of the kitchen work table I made 5 years ago.

This is actually ideal, as I can work at standard worktop height and Mrs L1 prefers the worktable height.

Apparently this isn't for sale anymore (as in, I can't find the for sale thread.  Guess I'm keeping it!)

Kitchen progress is stalling.  I need to get some nice brass screws to hold the oak worktop back in place.  Also looking like I'm going to have to hunt around for tongue and groove to sort out the corner to the left of the cooker.PXL_20251215_194954924.jpg.a1163f4f9fc309cbbc52d3921b0e765e.jpg

Meanwhile I have some granite worktop to cut for the utility sink.

Had a bit of time today so fitted the new battery on the range rover

And then fitted a high level brake light on the 205

Went to do my CBT today but apparently torrential rain interspersed with hail isn't the best weather to go out on the road on a bike.

Did all the yard stuff, got to go back to go out for the two hours.

On the way back the Express made it clear that 300km is regarded as acceptable for a NSF wheel bearing.  It's got a new driveshaft since the last one, anyone got any advice? I'm guessing perhaps the hub is warped or something and that's why it's eating the for le petit déjeuner

  • loserone changed the title to 🚨L1's 🇫🇷 shenanigans. Why is my van eating wheel bearings?

What brand bearing did you use? Ive had some shite ones recently.

Posted

I can't recall if they were skf or fag.  Have a febi one on the way with a new febi hub

Posted

300km is nothing even for the shittiest of bearings. Did you have any issues getting the old ones out? No grinder burrs on the stub axle or other high spots on any contact faces? When you pressed it in, you did press it on the outer race right? (Apologies if I'm teaching you to suck eggs!)

Given it's eaten four in a year, we were pretty careful with it.   Not left to an amateur like me, @Jimbob McGregor did it !

Anecdotal only but i had a c3 that kept eating the nsf wheel bearing. A new (to me) hub was the answer. Wheel off, disc of and stick a clock on it. Its probs warped from previous impact damage.

SKF and Schaefler (FAG) are premier. I fit about a hundred a year from both manufacturers, albeit great big ones. Id be suprised its the bearings. Although be aware theres a suprisingly big market in counterfit bearings.

I think id also be fitting a full 2nd hand hub in this case. Id bet its the same as r5 campus.

Yeah that might be worthwhile.  Will see if I can find one that's not £90 postage from Spain.

To late if there wanted now he'll have to go to Morocco for them 😄

That's some road trip.  Wonder how many side-of-the-road wheel bearing changes that would be

Posted

11 ish bearing changes maybe or you could always just leave it and bring one of the other competitors cars back instead 😉

This would be nice.
