I have always been a big fan of 1960’s and 1970’s cars but until recently not too excited by older (or newer) cars. This however is fantastic,  the styling is enhanced by the fantastic exterior and interior colours, This is a car I would love to own, fortunately there will be several quicker to the computer when it comes up for sale as I have no room. I am really enjoying the updates on this, it is magnificent and a great way to spend your Christmas holiday.

Happy at 30-40 , over 40 the bonnet sides start to lift up 💩 , but its incredibly torquey from tickover, i believe max power is at 2,000rpm

I seem to remember Gumdrop being called an Austin 12 Heavy Clifton in the books.  Was the Clifton a body style or are they all Cliftons

Yes, Clifton is the tourer, Ascot the saloon. Technically Austin 12/4 Heavy Clifton.

An absolutely cracking looking car! I too have fond memories of the gumdrop series of books, so this is a very nostalgic thing!

What a truly beautiful car, I am very impressed and very jealous.

Gumdrop was the first thing I thought of too, I loved those books when I was a kid.  I didn't know until much later in life, however, that Gumdrop was actually a real car owned by the author of the books, Val Biro.  He is a 1926 model, and I think still exists today.

Looking forward to following the adventures of your own Austin 12!

it definitely still exists today but I'm not sure who has it since Val Biro died.
