Spot the HERITAGE (from our accommodation in Morlaix)

I’ve got a great picture of Morlaix taken from a similar vantage point circa 1987. All Renault 4’s and what not with the odd UK reg’d R5 (ours) chucked in.

An absolutely amazing piece of engineering. Wow that is massive. My 'Rough Guide to Brittany' (1998 vintage) says it was built in the 1860's to connect Paris with Brest by rail. Survived WW2 attempts to cut the line by bombing. Public access to the first level apparently (at least there was in 1998!).

Had a lovely trip. The 820 was very comfy transport for all with a handily large boot, seen here with a bit of a nose up attitude due to the boot being quite full.

Meanwhile now back home pottering in the white minor

Not washed it yet, but pic for the addition of an AA badge, and for the early morning mist hiding Tavistock in the valley below

That’s fit! Will definitely have an 800 saloon at some point, they just look so right.

Keeping to the French theme - Rovers of this era sold well in France. Often turn up on LeBonCoin. Currently a couple of 800 diesels at €600 and €1400.

Both said to be runners but without CT (MoT).

Loving this.

Mine will be coming out of the garage next week, perhaps timely for calls of Mayday, Mayday.

How do the MMs compare to drive? I bet they both have their own character. The 1098 A series in mine was always willing although never as good on fuel as many suggested. Possibly teenage right foot effect at the time, though...

Absolutely. They bookend the 948cc minor 1000 period and both in spec and features are pretty original in terms of year on year detail changes. 🤓

The white one (may 63) has a less boomy exhaust and a quieter gearbox than the black (may 57) although the brakes are not quite as sharp. The white one had very slight part throttle  hesitancy but this seems to have gone away with use with and both feel on a par performance wise now. Both as far as i can tell have done under 40k from new.

IMG_0241.jpeg.b39fa9594c8f65bc2ec1bede417bddae.jpeg

Both have the original spec rear lights/ lenses. Shared with the jag XK-SS no less. But also a lot of 50s porridge. Not unusual to see an upgrade to 63 on larger units, but in the change from semaphores (only original on the black 57) extra direction indicators have been added to the rear wing. On the white one they were no longer a thing and the body pressing was modified to eliminate the semaphore cut out and the lamp wiring modified to flash when needed to indicate from new.

The black one looks worse but is far more original, having had, as far as i can see, little to no welding. The white by comparison has has a fair bit in the usual places, on the whole to a good standard.

This morning I greased up the suspension (looked not to have been done for a while- very satisfying!)  prop and handbrake cables and took the family to a local pub this afternoon…

Do your family express relief/disappointment when you change vehicles, or have they learned simply to shrug?
